***Official 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread : Pens raise the cup for 4th time in franchise history*** (1 Viewer)

Flip Forsberg -12 for the playoffs.  They need to trade him to Detroit ASAP, maybe for Jimmy Howard since you guys need a goalie.

Just kidding.

Wow, I didn't realize Perry and E. Staal both were -7 in the first round ... Staal in only five games.  :hangover:

Obviously.  You're Mr numbers and I'll sing it from the tree tops!  Love your CFB rankings.
The funny thing is, I'm not very well versed on sabermetrics in baseball. I need to learn more about some of the more advanced stuff, but as a former player, I have a tendency to not want to put too much stock in them. If that makes sense.

I don't love all of it.  Exit velocity, O and Z swing percentages, and hard contact rate for hitters, strand and FIP for pitchers is good.  But the old standbys of OPS+, slugging, K/9, K/BB %, and WHIP are still the best.  Sabermetrics just allows a deeper look but outside FIP and hard contact rate, they are largely overrated.  Especially the fielding stuff which can be nonsense.

Surprised how Nashville laid down in games 5 and 7 after emotional 3rd period comebacks and OT victories the games prior to tie the series.  Weber had a nightmare finale.  Josi didn't fare much better.  Rinne was left out to dry, but he also didn't help his cause with the five hole goals.

Sharks power play of Pavelski, Thornton, Marleau, Couture and Burns has looked deadly this spring.  DeBoer has done a great job adjusting in game, something McLellan struggled with.  Sharks forechecking has also looked great.  When they aren't turning the puck over like they did in Nashville, they look outstanding.

Forsberg and Boudreau doing their Caps heritage proud this postseason. Mike Green also strong.

Brouwer the big exception. Have to think something bad is coming for him.

Tough news about former NHL great Kevin Stevens ...

Stevens arrested on federal drug charges

I would see Kevin around the rinks here quite a bit. His two sons have been playing HS and prep hockey, the older one was drafted by the 'Canes last year and is headed to Yale. Anyway, Kevin was much bigger than his playing days. I imagine he's been battling his demons constantly.

Here's a fun fact for Caps fans.

Holtby's .937 playoff save percentage in 46 games is the highest in NHL history. His opponents' save percentage in those games is .936.

And the Caps still went out in the 2nd round. :coffee:

Pretty much have to root for the Bolts and Blues at this point, I can't imagine a SCF between the Pens and Sharks where I probably would root for the Pens.  :X

I remember the SI article about Stevens bouncing around some shady NY crack houses. He wasn't living the high life then, he was going around to some real troublesome places. I can recall the mugshots, I think.  He's had problems for years.

For those of us that are neutral -- or even rooting for Pittsburgh -- you gotta think there's a pall at that rink right now knowing that one of the better goalies in the game is probably lost for a while.
