OFFICIAL 2016 Training Camp & Preseason: News & Tidbits Thread (1 Viewer)

I found this noteworthy...

"5. Props to McDonald, the 49ers target who appears primed for a big year in Kelly's tight-end friendly offense. Despite entering behind Garrett Celek, McDonald made good on reports of having his "best offseason" yet with the long touchdown grab and another chain-moving grab for 11 yards. He's an athletic weapon who will serve as Gabbert's security blanket this preseason. "

Cardinals TE Troy Niklas ran with the first-team offense on Tuesday.
The reps come two days after coach Bruce Arians said Niklas was "pressing" Jermaine Gresham and Daniel Fells. The No. 52 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Niklas' career has thus far been stalled by injury. Even were he to claim starting status, he'll be well off the fantasy radar for Week 1.

Redskins UDFA RB Rob Kelley has begun cutting into Keith Marshall's reps with the second-team offense.
The Redskins weren't thrilled with Marshall's impatience behind the line in the preseason opener, a trait he's also exhibited on the practice field. Albeit against Atlanta's deep reserves, Kelley shined with 40 yards on seven carries and two catches for 13 yards. Kelley stands 5-foot-11, 226 and ran a 4.68 forty at Tulane's Pro Day. He is a Matt Asiata-caliber athlete.

Patriots TE A.J. Derby caught 6-of-7 targets for 71 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's second preseason game.
"Redshirted" as a sixth-round rookie last year, Derby has moved into the driver's seat for No. 3 tight end duties behind Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett. Derby has nine grabs for 118 yards and the score on 11 targets through two preseason games. This will only be Derby's second full season at tight end after he converted from quarterback as a senior at Arkansas. Derby stands 6-foot-4, 255. He ran 4.72 at the Razorbacks' 2015 Pro Day.
