***Official 2017 NCAA Hoops Tourney thread: Congrats UNC, all the refs from NCCG should be banned for life*** (1 Viewer)

Can't wait for that sweet, sweet potential 3rd-round Badgers-Hoos barnburner.

I'm a UVA alum and even I might have to find something else to do for those two hours.

Sure, we discussed the Big Ten seeding over the last hour.  But really, how jacked up was the overall seeding in this tournament?
I love the first weekend of the tourney but the best thing about finishing it is that seeding arguments stop once we get to the sweet sixteen.

Illinois hired Brad Underwood from Oklahoma State after one year?  He's getting $3M/year where Oklahoma State was $1M and change/year.  Boone Pickens doesn't spend money on basketball?

Speaking of Illinois, it's ridiculous they don't win in basketball with access to talent they have.

which team does Ron Perlman coach?  got Zags/Northwestern on at the ####hole bar here, and i keep seeing his face

It was really bad.
What was bad besides Wichita (which no one seems to agree on where they should have been) and the half the Big Ten teams?

You were pimping KenPom the other day.  Wichita would be a 2 if he seeded the tournament and Duke a 3 seed.  Does that seem correct to you?  It's impossible to seed 68 teams without someone #####ing about it but seems like this year was better than any other year certainly not any worse.

You'd think that but none of the programs in the state of Illinois have had much recent success.

Wichita shoulda been a 4 at worst. Wiscy shoulda been a 5 or 6. Those are really bad and unfair to the teams they played, not to mention all the overseeded teams already mentioned.

Villanova worked all year to get the best seed in the whole thing just to get railroaded by #### seeding.

SMU would have been a 3. Arizona a 5.

If you are the number one seed shouldn't you be expected to beat the team you are playing in any round?

It boggles my mind. They should be able to get enough good players, even after the big boys have taken the 5-stars.

Rutgers is another school that has no excuse for not getting at least some talent.

I alternately criticized and praised Gary Williams for not rolling in the AAU pig sty, but he made a living off of 3-star guys at Maryland until he won a title.

That's......that's not how these things work.
If you are the better team you beat the team you play on that day. Seeding is just a talking point for fans It shouldn't matter if you play them in the second round or the 4th round  Win the game move on to the next one.

You earn an easier path by playing well thru the year.

Yeah but KenPom doesn't fix the problem of bad seeds unless you're telling me Wichita is better than Duke, for example.

The better team doesn't always win.  The great thing about this tournament is the one and done format and every single team has a chance to play their way into it.  But this tournament isn't 67 games of the best team winning.

So it would have made the Villanova players feel better to have lost to wisconsin in the 4th round? If you are going to win a basketball tournament you beat the teams you play. No matter the path you have to win on the court.

Its a bit bigger deal to be a elite 8 team than a first round winner, yeah.

You do know that like a 7 point spread only equates to a probability of 75%. Crazy things happen. If it was as easy as the better team winning, my bracket would look much better.

Didn't say that. Fact is Wisconson  was a better team then Villanova today.

Totally unrealistic but would love to see the bracket if the committee took the top team in each region and let them choose the bracket.  Then we'd know what the coaches think of Wichita, or Minnesota, or whoever else.

That would be awesome. They could stretch it to a two hour show that would do monster ratings.

I also don't understand complaining about a 1 seed getting matched up with an 8 seed that should have been a 6 seed.
Yeah at best Wisconsin is a 6. Nova got them two days after playing another decent team while they had a 16 seed.

Probably could have been done better but Nova lost to Wisconsin fair and square. Not like they didn't get invited to the dance.
