OFFICIAL 2017 Training Camp & Preseason: News & Tidbits Thread (1 Viewer)

Coach Sean McVay said third-year UDFA Malcolm Brown has "established" himself as the Rams' No. 2 running back.

A third-year pro out of Texas, Brown appeared in all 16 games last season, mainly on special teams, but rushed for just 39 yards on 18 carries (2.2 YPC) behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. He also lost a fumble. Free-agent pickup Lance Dunbar (knee) is out indefinitely. The Rams may look for outside help.

Quick Hits and Observations: Day 3 of Training Camp (Titans)

On 1-on-1s with the receivers and cornerbacks, receivers Rishard Matthews, Jonathan Krause and Taywan Taylor all made really nice grabs. Taylor got open deep, and caught a ball from quarterback Alex Tanney

The Titans found some interesting ways to get the ball in the hands of Taylor on Monday, including some on gadget plays. Even with some veterans around him at the position, Taylor continues to get himself noticed in practices.

Tim Hightower took the first rep at running back at Monday's training camp practice.

It was reported over the weekend that Hightower looked "most comfortable" in coach Kyle Shanahan's outside-zone scheme, which isn't surprising after Hightower played for Shanahan in D.C. Perhaps the staff was rewarding Hightower for his strong first couple days of camp. Carlos Hyde was second up at running back Monday but proceeded to fumble on a pitch play. This position battle is one of the most fascinating of summer.

I have been watching the Bears since I think there could be some PPR value between Wright, Cruz, and Wheaton, but so far I am not sure who I am targeting in deeper PPR leagues. Sounds like Wright may be pulling ahead there.

WR Kendall Wright building momentum

The former first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans finally made his presence felt on Monday, making several plays in practice and drawing praise from his position coach, Zach Azzanni.

“I can’t say enough about Kendall Wright. He’s totally bought in and been awesome. He’s like having a graduate assistant on the field with me,” Azzanni said.

For you deep dynasty folks, Malcolm Brown was said by McVay to have a solid hold on #2 spot with Dunbar injury. He was a Waldman favorite a few years back and someone I've always figured out a way to roster.

Yuck, keeping tabs on the bears wr3. Seems like if any of those 3 guys could overtake white if he can't get it going soon, but even in deep leagues it's hard to use a roster spot on any of them, for me anyway.

WR Kasen Williams Seeing Time With 2nd Unit

"But Williams, the former Skyline and UW standout now in his third season with the Seahawks, remains in the mix and appears to be working in the rotation with the second unit most often, meaning right on the cusp of a roster spot.

A year ago he was considered one of the players to watch entering camp after a standout offseason program. Then he suffered a hamstring injury and was waived and then brought back to the practice squad before ending up back on the 53-man roster for the final game of the season and the playoffs."

A bit of IDP news for Tennessee to note: CB LeShaun Sims Won Offseason Performer of Year Among WR/DB Positions

He's entering his 2nd year after being a 5th Round Pick last year. Started 2 games as a rookie.

"Mularkey raved about cornerback LeShaun Sims and his work ethic on Monday ... And LeShaun, the response he got from the team for winning it the other night, it was very big.”

"They get preferred parking here, and preferred parking at the stadium,” Mularkey said. “They get a suite at the hotel, and they get to pick one road suite. They get a dinner out with their position, so their position group gets rewarded for it. Then they get to pick one padded practice off.”

Could be valuable cheap depth in a PPR league where 48+ WRs can start every week, considering White's struggles. Between Royal a couple years ago and Cameron for a stretch last year, the slot has gotten some play for Fox's teams. Sometimes you need those guys if you sacrificed some depth to get the Julio's and Evans' of the world :)

Ezekiel Elliott Has Been Lining Up All Over For Dallas Cowboys, Anticipates More Catches This Year

"So far in training camp, Elliott has lined up in the slot. He has lined up wide. He has started in the backfield and motioned to the slot as well as out wide. He has run routes from the backfield.

"The game has become so specialized," coach Jason Garrett said. "There's a lot of different personnel substitution that happens really every down, but if you have a guy who you can leave in there for three downs and he can affect the game by running it, affect the game in protection, and then you can throw him the ball, those guys are pretty rare and they're difference-making."

Possible boost in PPR? DeMarco Murray was seeing 50+ catches. Elliott could see 35-45 this year if this stays true for the regular season.

Dalvin Cook Impressing With Pass Pro, TE David Morgan Could Get More Action During Season

"A good chunk of Shurmur’s press conference was spent talking about blocking. He’s impressed with the pass blocking of Dalvin Cook. “He’s got a great background in it. We talked about how he has a really great foundation coming from Florida State, so he understands the big picture. He understands our terminology as to who we’re blocking and he really has a good feel for the game.”

Speaking of blocking, David Morgan getting most of the reps in two tight end sets. It appears that the Vikings plan on using the second year tight end/H-back much more this season."

Morgan had just 1 catch last year but did appear in 12 games.
