***Official 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs thread: Caps and Mystics to raise banners together in October. Congrats DC!!!!!!! (2 Viewers)

no idea, but it's not that crazy of an idea since they have a ton of cap space and might be able to build into a perennial contender if they use it wisely.
I will say they did a heck of  a job this year...that nosek guy they took from detroit looked like a solid player for them....they found alot of hidden gems....

tough to say what Vegas will be next year sinice they could make some big moves but I'd wager against them making the playoffs if they come back with basically the same roster.

Marchessault seems legit, but I don't think guys like William Karlsson and Reilly Smith are going to repeat their performance. That defense played way over their heads too.

Two questions for some of you guys -

1) If one wanted to get a team-signed jersey and didn't have the time and was geographically too far away to get to DC, what would be the best way to go about getting one?  Price is largely no object.  Are there memorabilia vendors or seekers who could help me out?  (and yes, I know price will be at an all-time high right now.  It doesn't have to be TODAY, but I'm also not worried about the cost)

2) Anybody know any sources for high-quality photos of the game(s) - Ovie with the cup, Holtby's save, etc - that I could have printed in high quality and framed?
For #2, NHL.com will have pictures of Ovi hoisting the Cup, the team photo, rtc for sale at some point. Not sure when they will go up, but keep checking.

Thanks @Dickie Dunn!

I'm still on a high from last night.  My wife fell asleep (between my yelling) and woke up to me literally jumping up and down when Backstrom was about to shoot at the empty net.  I basically yelled "YES!" after the last 0.6 seconds passed, and then I was just quiet.  I thought I'd yell or something, but I was just quiet.  It was like...relief, jubilation, excitement, and disbelief all at once.

I shed a few tears last night.  Right when they won, more when they told Ovie to come get the cup, and even more when I saw the team photo and after-game interviews.  I've been a Caps fan for longer than probably any other team in any other sport.  It's been 26 years since a sports team I've rooted for has won it all ('92 Redskins).  My wife didn't get why I was so excited.  She's from Pittsburgh.  I told her that not every city has had success in multiple sports in recent years.  That really sank in last night when we finally won for the first time in my adult life.

For all of you who's teams have won championships recently, savor the feeling.  It's nice to know what it's like.  For all of you who's teams haven't won and have given you nothing but heartbreak - stay true to your team.  It's worth it in the end.
I've been wondering for a few days what it was going to feel like. I entered last night so confident that I just knew it was going to happen. Even down 3-2, I didn't doubt. I was worried that I had built up the moment too big in my mind. As the game approached, I thought through scenarios in my mind. An Ovi OT goal? A late 3rd period goal? An ENG to clinch it (can't believe Backstrom missed that)? A big save in the last minute to clinch the win? As I thought through these scenarios during the day, I had this strange feeling in me. I'm not a super emotional person. I joke with my wife by saying "You hurt my feeling", singular, as if I only have one feeling. I honestly can't remember the last time I really cried. My wife has only seen a tear leave my a couple times and never seen me have a good cry...because it just doesn't happen. But, as I thought through these scenarios during the day, I held back a creeper. Once DSP scored to tie it, I started back into this feeling like I could cry if the won. Then Eller scores and, again, I have these strange feelings of emotion that I just don't experience much. As those last minutes ticked down, I was just standing, bouncing, fidgeting, and preparing. After the last faceoff, me and my sons yelled together and jumped up and down. But I didn't feel like crying in that moment. As I watched the hugging and handshakes and trophies and watched reactions on Twitter and on NBC Sports Washington (Alan May crying with his kids), I felt the rush coming. But, since I was with my kids, I held it in. Maybe they noticed my eyes water a bit, but I kept a tear from leaving my eye. Why? I don't know. I don't know how to be emotional, I guess. After about 20-30 minutes of post game stuff, I sent the kids to bed. I continued to watch until about 2:00 AM. During that time, a tear or two made it's way out of an eye. I think I just sat there smiling, watching TV. Around 2:00 I went up to bed and scrolled through Twitter and watched video. I turned that off around 2:30. I think I fell asleep sometime after 3:00. Didn't get up until about 9:15 this morning. Woke up happy and walked to get some breakfast with a smile on my face.

So, had a built up the moment too big in my mind? I didn't have that overwhelming moment of joy. I didn't have a real good cry. I didn't yell and scream. So, I think my experience vs what I imagined was just...different. Not necessarily smaller or worse, but different. I know it will eventually fade, but I still have a smile and I think it will remain for a while. I still have that strange emotional feeling inside me when I think about it and think about Ovi and others. I'm not the type of person who knows how to let those emotions and tears out, but I feel them in there and it's a much better feeling that being pissed off and angry after the conclusion of every sports season.

Caps have always been my #2 team behind the Redskins. But, for a while, I've said I'll take a Cup before another Lombardi. For one, obviously I've seen three Super Bowl wins. They were from the ages 7-16 and I'd love to experience that as an adult, but they still happened. Caps had never done anything notable. I wanted the Cup more for that reason and for Ovechkin (and Backstrom and others). It's so great to have such a great player who is ours. Watching his career has been a treat and it's so nice to see him win. It's awesome to see videos of him carrying the Cup through Vegas, screaming. Without him, I don't think you see the masses in the streets of DC these last several nights. I think there would be crowds and excitement, but not like this. He was already a top 3 DC athlete of all time and what he's accomplished for hockey in a semi-Southern city has been amazing and he's arguably #1 all time here.

What a night. What a playoff run. They better not screw me on the parade schedule (I'm out of town Tuesday).

I finally called it a night around 2 a.m. 5:30 came early today. And my first thought was, "Did that really happen?"

Ovie and Backstrom with the Cup together was an all-time sports fan moment for me. I really thought their window had closed last year, and I was so disappointed for them that it wasn't going to happen. I'd had idle thoughts about where Ovie could go as a hired gun to win a Cup, Ray Bourque-style. What made it so great was that guys like those two, and Holtby and Carlson and Beagle are homegrown and have been there every mile of this long road. I can't believe how well the much-maligned Orpik played, and that he made a pivotal play on the Smith-Pelly goal. And the run DSP went on is simply incomprehensible. I'm calling him Timmy Smith-Pelly, because that was the last time a DC sports figure came out of nowhere to make a championship impact like he did.

Some other cool stuff:

Ovie joins Orr, Gretzky and Lemieux as the only 3-time Hart Trophy winner to also win a Conn Smythe. That's pretty good company.

Also, Ovie becomes first guy to lead NHL in regular season goals, playoff goals, and win the Cup since Mike Bossy in 80-81.

Caps only team other than 91 Penguins to win the Cup after trailing in every playoff series. Hmm, can't remember who blew a first round 3-1 lead to Pittsburgh that year. You know, this might be my favorite factoid - rather than choking away leads, Washington overcame a deficit each series.

Caps tie the record for road wins in the playoffs with 10.

Finally, for the third straight year, Pittsburgh-Washington in the second round is the real Stanley Cup Finals. The rest is just confirmation of that fact.

This feels like the hockey confessional so I will give it a go.

I kinda felt something really special was going to happen when they played the way they did in game 6 and 7 against TB,it was something I had never seen before from this group and had me really starting to believe they could actually get it done.

I cried last night and they were glorious tears of joy and also 43 years of rooting for a team that finally got over that mountain.I couldn't stop smiling as they passed the Cup to each other and gave a few fist pumps while my favorite players hoisted it.I loved the way Trotz was handed it by Ovechkin and how the players really do seem to love the guy.

Ovechkin treating the Conn Smythe award like it was his red headed stepchild,he wanted that Cup and that came through loud and clear.

T.J Oshie in his interview made me start crying again,I love that guy and am proud to admit it.

DSP pulling off his best Bobby Orr impression on the GTG,what an effort and what a great goal.

Lars(The Tiger)Eller being in the right spot at the right time,he has a great knack for those things and then his reaction after scoring was priceless.

I then had a really good laugh after all was said and done when they showed Ovie and the team going through the MGM with Cup in tow and looking like they were ready to party hard and I hope they did, they earned it.

Overall,it was a magical run I did not see coming but man oh man was that something I will never forget. The city getting behind the team in force was also another thing I didn't expect. They sold out the arena to watch the game on tv and then had another 20-30k outside as well.Simply amazing.

I still haven't slept and don't really care.

This paragraph was really well said and resonated with me.  My wife asked my why I was more excited for goals than I was for them winning - similar to you, it wasn't what I imagined.  I imagined jumping up and down and screaming and going nuts...but I think by the time the clock ticked to 0:00, I already knew what was going to happen.  For me, it was more a feeling of relief - of relief from years of "almost", from years of "what if", and from years of being penned perennial chokes.  No more.

I wish my son was old enough to care.  He'll turn 4 in a few weeks.  I did manage to get him to get excited about a hockey team who's colors he doesn't really know, players he can't identify, and a sport he doesn't get at all, but he won't get it for a few more years I think.

As always, My son was great for some comedic relief this AM.  I asked him who he thought won last night, and he said, "THE CAPS!?!?"  and I said yeah and he got excited.  Not because they won, but because I told him I'd show him the trophy they won that was bigger than he was.  Upon seeing it and me telling him it was called the "Stanley Cup," all he could say is "What can you put in it?"  I said "cereal."  Then, I was showing him the GTG and GWG on replay.  His first question before I hit play was "Are the caps the black team?"  I said "No, the red ones" and pressed play about 15 seconds before DSP's goal.  When he scored, I said, "Did you see that?"  He said, "Did the black guy score?"  I said, "yea...um....um...well....the Caps scored."  I still have no clue if he meant "black guy" as in the Knights in their black jerseys, OR DSP.  He's NEVER referred to anyone by the color of their skin before, so I have to imagine he meant the Knights and was confused, but it was good for a laugh.

My new avatar is my ticket from the only 2018 playoff game I attended. It's curled and gnarly because it's been in my back pocket since I left Cap One after that loss to Pittsburgh. I've instructed my wife to toss it in my coffin when the time comes.

I'm now undertaking a mission to cheer maniacally for Buffalo, Vancouver, etc...any franchise that is suffering through a similar or worse drought, in the hopes that those fan bases can feel what we felt last night.

And, to those who belittle those of us that feel that a franchise and fan base have to suffer and "earn" a title, I invite them to kiss my big, fat, shiny A.

My kids kept talking and asking questions, including questions that had nothing to do with the game. Telling me stories about their day, asking their usual "Has anyone ever..." questions, or asking me who my favorite Wizard/Bullet is of all time. I just kept saying, "Shhhh, stop talking."

2) Anybody know any sources for high-quality photos of the game(s) - Ovie with the cup, Holtby's save, etc - that I could have printed in high quality and framed?
yes, where are these high quality photos?  all the shots of them on the glass were pretty grainy.

My wife is going out tonight and I am going to watch Game 5's third period at least twice
I’ve watched the 8 minute condensed game on the NHL app.  I’m sure I’ll watch it again and again.

Oh and NBCSW did their own one shining moment type of thing last night that I have recorded.

NBC Sports DC or whatever that channel is is airing a one hr special on the series and then the entire game 6.followed by a 30min recap of the BJ/Pens serieses. That channel is actually nationwide on direct TV. I think 643?

Caps fans> what are your thoughts on the likelihood of guys like Carlson and Trotz sticking around?

Carlson seems like he's in a perfect spot to cash in on a career year and the Caps may not have enough space to fit him in, but it would be tough to lose him after the guys they lost last year so I assume they do whatever they have to do to keep him.

Capitals have a coach in waiting in Todd Reirden, who they blocked from interviewing last year. Assumption was that he would take over for Trotz following this season, but does the Cup win change that plan?

MacLellan said Trotz is back if he wants to be. For a while, people have been saying he wants to leave.

I've heard/read that Reirden wants his shot to be a head coach though, so if Trotz sticks around it seems like maybe Reirden will be upset depending on what's been promised to him thus far.

First time since 1997 that there were no overtime games in either the conference finals or Cup finals.

Ovie's diving goal in game 3 againstVegas was huge for me. That showed the will and fight he and the team were playing with. Refuse to lose!

Watch it again. Watch Ovie the whole sequence on the replay. Just all fight.

Don't look now, but apparently the Mystics set a WNBA attendance record by playing their game yesterday before the Caps watch party!

11....chic flashing her boobs during cup celebration

They were at the Nats game today, with Ovie standing on the rail holding the Cup over his head.  Some intrepid reporter got into their section and started asking Qs and they responded by singing "We Are the Champions".

Deadspin
