Great game!  I am sort of glad the championship isn't going to be a Coach K circus, but congrats to him on a great run to finish his career.

Man, that will take K a long time to forget.

ETA - credit to him - hellavua career

Dude barely sprained his ankle. He’ll be fine. He acted more hurt when he pretended he was poked in the eye earlier.

You could tell he was milking it.  Talking about whether he'll be able to go on Monday???   :lmao:

And getting down those stairs was brought up, LMAO, the kid is fine.

My condolences to all coach K fans.   A nation mourns with you today.
I like Coach K, and I was hoping this last ride would lead to a championship. He still has had a great career, and he will forever be one of the best ever to coach men's college basketball. He has done a lot for Duke, and the city of Durham. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Tar Heels will haunt Coach K for a long time with a send off like this. Taking down Dook in his last home game and knocking them out of the Final Four, unreal and I love it.  Has to do wonders for Hubert Davis recruiting going forward.

What a night. I'm not sure there's been a happier night in Tar Heel nation. We've won titles. But night's like last night are literally once in a lifetime.

My sister and 2 nephews are big Duke fans.  Another nephew is a big NC fan.  He's going to need a new shirt to go with this one.  The Snapchats between them have been fun lately.  :lmao:

For those of us who hate Duke worse than State hates UNC, this has been the greatest season ever.  Shocking they never met in the final four before. For it to happen in ratfaces  last year after losing his last home game to them is legendary.  Cherry on top that a rookie UNC coach stepped up with inferior talent to smack K twice.

Last night was for all the marbles and permanent bragging rights. For college bb it would have been better if these two hadn’t met this year.  I think the rivalry lost some of its luster moving forward.

Because Coach K isn’t there anymore?  UNC’s gone through quite a bit of coaching change since their legendary Dean Smith walked away and the rivalry has maintained.  Unless Scheyer somehow manages to flounder then this matchup will always be one of the biggest game/s of the year.

Deflating loss last night, hard to swallow considering they should have won.  I think I’m okay with UNC being the foe that did it.  Sucks obviously that it ended at all, but against our biggest rival in an absolutely thrilling back and forth?  Fine. Next year will be all “revenge for K!”

That game was the holy grail.  The rivalry will always be there, but unless they meet in a championship game I don't see how last night will ever be surpassed.  Hopefully the hardcore UNC fans will step in here, but if I had a choice between winning last night or winning the next ten, I'd take the win last night.  Obviously K is a legend, but going out with a championship title would have elevated him even higher.  So sweet that UNC ruined K's last home game and sent him off to retirement with another L.

I think that they did meet in the Final Four says a little something about the selection committee's opinion of UNC this year. I believe UNC and Duke had made the Final Four in the same year 6 or 7 times before this. But generally, if the committee thinks there's a chance of that, they don't put them on the same side of the bracket.

I don't agree about the rivalry losing some of it's luster.  It was a super-duper wonderful awesome game, but still just one game.  And it certainly feels nice that it looks like we've got the right coach.

And the reason it feels so nice is because we survived the Matt Doherty years. As did the rivalry.

Who knows what happens over the next few years. It is so incredibly hard to replace a legend. But Duke will get it worked out.

A matchup tonight tied to the origins of basketball itself.

James Naismith coached at Kansas and was the coach of Phog Allen, who was the first real legendary coach at Kansas.

Dean Smith was born in Emporia, KS and played basketball at KU. After he graduates he works for Phog Allen as an assistant for a year. And of course then makes his way to North Carolina where he made that program what it is today.

The even more amazing thing is Adoph Rupp also played at KU under Phog Allen. He was born in a small town in Kansas as well. And of course he turned Kentucky basketball into what it is today. The lineage of college basketball flowed from KU and spawned what we know of today.

True blue bloods of the sport. Should be a great game. Rooting for the Jayhawks of course but this matchup could be an issue for them.

Hoping for a good game where the refs let these kids play some defense.

Forecasts (focused channels) are about 2.3 to 1 for UNC...i personally think KU is under-forecasted with it having been 14 years...hoping for a great game.

There's other big name connections too: Roy Williams, of course, and Larry Brown. And there's a couple bitter UNC Final Four losses at the hands of Kansas, including getting boat raced in 2008.

Hard for me to evaluate Xs and Os as a UNC fan, but I agree that the matchups are at least better for the Heels than Duke was. I thought Duke was a nightmare matchup for UNC because UNC plays two slow big guys 35+ min a game and Duke only offered one place to put them on defense. But the Heels pulled two big upsets while giving Manek major responsibility on Banchero, so what the hell do I know. Maybe Love chasing strong, talented wings on D all game will take something out of him and prevent his usual second half surge.

Totally agree on the refs, and optimistic we'll get what we want. Good luck to you and your guys. Hopefully if you all win it will be comfortably; a heartbreaking loss in the final a la 2016 is about the only thing that could put even a tiny blemish on this UNC season.

Tonight is the equivalent of the NFL Pro-bowl if it was played after the Super Bowl.

Word from an internet CBB blogger/handicapper who is in NOLA and at the dome is that Bacot is far from 100%.  Says he thinks it will become obvious in the second 10 minutes of the first half when the adrenaline wears off and he gets benched for a few minutes here and there to try to combat the pain.  Grain of salt and all of that, but obviously a big issue if true.
