glutton for punishment I guess. that, and I've always been an xbox guy Honestly didn't even look at the Sony.....just assumed they were similar, no?
I think this go around, they are going to be quite different conceptually.
Okay, how?
Really? Did you not read the thread or, perhaps, anything that's been in the news the past month? XBox is leaning towards the all in one living room box. PS4 is going full on game mode.
No, I haven't been following the thread. I know X1 wants to take over my living room.........now you're telling me PS doesn't?

My boss is off the next couple days, maybe I need to do a bit more research. Heck, maybe I'll get them both.

Not according to their press conference so far.

Sounds like M$ light so far. TV shows, music, and movies.

Don't buy the fanboy lines, get the console you want. 90% of the next generation games will be on both.

If I was Sony I would want to go first at E3 and say... 1. No internet connection required, ever.2. No mandatory multiplayer subscriptions, ever.3. No camera required, ever.4. The ability to resell/borrow or use features on game resells will be handled exclusively by the software publishers, just like today.5. I would recreate these bullet points in a remake of the Apple 1984 Big Brother Ad and have these flash across the screen. 6. Playstation, we make systems and games for gamers. Game on M$.
:goodposting: No internet connection required, no mandatory bundling of the PS move, continued free online play, and the ability to play a game without downloading it to the PS4 hard drive would be HUGE. Hopefully Sony doesn't just follow Microsoft at every move to create a money-making duopoly of ####.
Pretty close!

I've historically been an Xbox guy as well....but that's an expensive choice to make without even checking out the competition.

I own both current gen consoles. The PS3 is a dust collector. If Sony fixes all that ails their online experience then I might check them out. But for me, the online experience is superior on the 360 and I can't imagine that M$ would go backwards with the One.

the whole nonsense with the Kinect really annoys me. Why do they feel the need to force stupid gimmicky crap on us?

I just got home from work. Is there anywhere I can see Sony's press conference in its entirety? I only know tidbits that were texted to me.

Why would anybody get an xboxone? Any exclusives that are worth $100 more, used game and borrowing restrictions, checking in online, paying for your own Internet connection, and TV hub stuff that will likely be available via smart Tvs and Comcast/fios receivers soon anyway?

Honestly, other than a few games, my PS3 basically collected dust. I originally bought it for MLB the show and metal gear solid 4. But other than that, I basically had to go out of my way to find games I was interested in. I ended up buying some sports games on it just so I could say I was using it. Total waste of money in the long run. The xbox 360 is better in just about every way. Better controller, better dashboard, better online experience, better exclusives, more of my friends are on it, etc.

But Sony is just absolutely murdering MS in the PR war for next gen.

Borderline checkmate there for MS. I wonder if they'll make some changes, it almost seems like they'll have to now.

Looks like Sony snuck mandatory PS+ to play online in there. I actually see that as I good thing as they'll hopefully commit some of that money to making PSN on par with XBL, but it'll be interesting to see how many Sony fanboys that claimed they'd never pay for mandatory online play out of principal suddenly ignore that principle.

PS4 requires Playstation Plus to play multiplayer this round. That'll be the same price as XBox Live Gold. So, that argument is now a draw.

But if you don't use multiplayer, you still have free access to Netflix etc. I think its ridiculous I need to pay Microsoft for the privilege of using Netflix online which I already pay for.

Does XBL Silver not let you do Netflix? Honest question I never had silver but that kind of sucks if it doesn't.

Nope.

We agree here. When you consider that every device now basically offers a Netflix app for free, there's no reason that Microsoft should be requiring you to pay an additional fee to access it. Why use XBox 360/One's Netflix app when our Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, etc already give that to you?

Can PSN handle the influx of exboxers?
The better question is will they fix their interface and online play(looking at you MAG/COD/BF) with the mandatory $5 a month they bring in for online multiplayer.

Wow.

I'm an Xbox360 fan through and through (I own both), but I dunno... Sony really came to play.

Things have to be very grim at MS right now - this could be really ugly for them.

The general reaction seems to be a slaughter.

You'd think Sony let Microsoft into the building, locked the doors behind them, and started playing "The Rains of Castamere."

Sony obviously threw down the gauntlet with the lack of DRM and the lower price point, but charging for online play in still kind of lousy. I'm a Plus subscriber anyway, but I hope this revenue goes to support infrastructure and isn't just a money grab. Like dedicated servers instead of crappy P2P connections.

I'd still expect P2P. They'll never shell out for dedicated servers. Too costly to maintain when the masses are perfectly willing to keep doing what they've been doing.

I'm not sure that I understand how you want dedicated servers to work. Game publishers make the decision of whether or not they want to provide dedicated servers or not, not Sony.Is it your belief that Sony should force all developers to use dedicated Sony servers? Would they have to lease space from Sony or something? What if the Sony servers really weren't optimized for certain games? I'm not really sure how that would work at all.The only things that jump out at me as requiring dedicated servers are:1) A party/chat system like Microsoft's that exists outside the games so that party chat doesn't have to be built into every game2) All the livecasting and video sharing that they have lined up. That will take massive amounts of server space and bandwidth. And that's not a feature I'm really interested in at all.

Is getting off the couch and walking three or four feet to the console to put a DVD in really that big of a deal to people? I've seen it mentioned as the main reason for support of always-online gaming. I usually put a DVD in once, and it stays there until the game is finished. I may be unusual in that. But it certainly didn't seem like much of a strain to lift that DVD and muscle it in to my PS3.
For me it is...xbox is in the basement while the TV is plays on is on the main level...changing a disc is annoying.

You're gonna need a long Kinect cable...

Microsoft better clarify some of their policies this week or they are in trouble.

Really they should have clarified yesterday during their PC, but maybe they were waiting for Sony.

I will say that out of all the exclusives I saw yesterday, Titanfall is the only one that looks like it could seriously move hardware. Not that that's the only good launch or near-launch title or even the one that would necessarily be at the top of my own personal wish list, but I could see that being a huge hit.

I still think there is potential for the xbox family-share/friend-share game system. A 10-member "family" that all have full time access to the game? How does it work exactly? Being able to share digital (?) games with friends from your friends list? Seems pretty awesome for anyone who has a close group of online friends.

Went from hating my PS3 (mostly due to their network) and love my 360 to being all in on the PS4 and I wont even think about purchasing the X1.

Am I the only one that thinks this MS decision could go down as one of the biggest blunders ever?

Nope. Since you're starting fresh with this generation of games/consoles there's no history to compare with. At least at launch of the PS3/360 you had some legacy effect with backwards compatibility.

Now, it's more "what have you done for me lately and what are you going to do to me in the near future". MSFT has indicated that they're going to make the experience much more intrusive, difficult to use, and expensive. Sony just seems to be saying "Here. Have fun."
