My biggest complaint was how slow the news and the story was spreading..

Just from what we've seen, there should at least a few zombies walking around.. the ones in the church

were just "gone".. where'd they go? And if it was in 5 States already, they should be multiplying in

hordes by now. In the innerwebs age, this story should have went viral with the first face chewing off.

I understand if people were just suddenly getting "infected" and dying and then at some point down the road

something happened and they turned into zombies, but when they turn pretty much immediately after dying?? How

many people in LA die per day?? Nevermind, I googled it.. 155 per day on average...

The show did make it seem there was a cover-up, but something that big would have been impossible.

When the CDC guy in TWD took all their blood and checked it in season one, it always made me assume that the virus or whatever wasnt always in everyone. It had to start somewhere, so a person like Rick for example was probably not infected until he spread some zombie guts on himself with Glenn in episode 2 or maybe while being chased around the tank in Atlanta. My guess at this point in FTWD is that some people are infected already, but only a very small portion of the population.

So 155 people may be dying every day in LA but only a handful have actually turned so far and only just in the last couple of days. But that is about to sky rocket as people like Nick who have come in contact are spreading it to others, those spreading it in turn, etc. Etc.

We saw what, 2 to 3 days in this episode and have gone from no one knows anything to schools are shutting down and sending kids home. ####'s probably going to hit the fan soon in episode two. This dumb family is just oblivious to how much is going on because they are worried about their druggie kid.

The zombies in TWD will leave a kill to go after fresh meat. You don't see too many skeleton-type walkers out there. With the few exceptions (like the woman who was half eaten and crawled after Rick in the first or second episode of TWD), seems that walkers don't consume someone completely - just remembered Rick's wife. She was mostly fully consumed.

wasn't rick's wife shot in the head by koral? when was she consumed?

That was so she wouldn't turn. I thought she was eaten and then Rick went back for her and that walker had a beer belly full of her.

That's what they wanted you to think.

In reality, Coral fired his pop gun into the air because he was too pansy to kill his momma. He left her there. She recovered and wandered aimlessly for a while, in a fugue state because her son was a giant wuss and her friend had torn her daughter out of her. Eventually, she found a riding mower and a huge tanker of gas and decided to spend her days performing grounds maintenance on all of the unkempt lawns. Lori hated knee high grass, it is known.

Was ok, not very good. I dislike the main character, his mom and his sister. The dad is about the only character that is likeable, imo. And the drug dealer. But now he's dead.

Who was likeable in TWD pilot?

Was T-Dog in the pilot? The show never completely recovered from losing him, IMO.

Cliff Curtis is a pretty good actor. I'm gonna hold my response to the casting until I see more of him in this role.

A single walker can't eat a person completely before they turn. This was addressed previously with respect to the prison episode and Harry Potter. Most likely what happened is the dead body Nick encountered orginally turned and finished the job that Gloria began. I don't think zombies want to eat if they are "full" since the walker that ate Lori didn't seem all that concerned with Rick. Of course, it seemed like that walker ate Lori in her entirety which goes against something the writers said.

Wouldn't be the first time things didn't match up though. I miss the walkers that could run and climb fences personally.

I liked it a lot. It was refreshing to get back to a slower pace and believable character actions like the first few seasons of TWD before it went into full-on action camp mode.

To me a big part of the initial draw of TWD was seeing what I/people would do in an actual zombie apocalypse. Once characters started becoming caricatures of real people and people started being placed in peril through absurdly unbelievable stupidity it really transformed into a totally different show.

I think my only complaint was that, with as focused as everything has been on "you turn when you die" so far I find it hard to believe that the entire original TWD crew went through this without any of them knowing that.

I'm glad that they're stretching the fall of humanity into an entire season rather than trying to rattle through it in one episode and just having the main characters go watch TV for an hour and come out to a world full of zombies like every other zombie movie/TV show ever made. I think if you're looking for idiotic characters to get "snuck up on" in the woods by a horde of zombies trampling through twigs and leaves only to have their buddy rattle off 8 straight headshots with a pistol from 200 yards away to save the day then you'll probably have to wait until season 3 and beyond.

Or, probably more likely, this thing won't make it to season 3 since it's lacking in the over the top action that TWD fans have come to expect.

I thought a couple of the hospital scenes were pretty cool. They kind of messed with us when we thought the old man was going to die and go after the Nick. I didn't think the hospital staff knew what was up but my wife broke it down to me that they did because when he coded the doctor wanted him "downstairs" ASAP. I thought they were going to try to do surgery on him or something. (I had some booze and hippie lettuce prior) But it was obvious they wanted to lock him up or something after I figured it out. Explained why the Asian nurse was worked up.

Looks like they will figure out headshots are the key pretty quick.

Wife thought Nick had a Johnny Deppish vibe to him.

Loved the drug dealer playing all innocent and the subsequent scene with Nick.

I was pretty entertained.

I thought it was pretty unlikely Nick would tell the step dad off and then they are besties in like 20 minutes. Also the sister wanted Nick to go die in the streets and then she's all feeding him jello like its all good.

It was, I'm pretty sure the army isn't fighting to take back LA in the next episode.

I love what they're doing here, as I agree I find "the fall of humanity" the most human part of zombie apocalypse dramas. That turn over transition period from normal life to apocalypse never seems to get enough love, and here we have it as the premise. 28 days later went right to, well, 28 days later. 28 weeks later gave a flavor for it with the attempt to rebuild London, but even that wasn't going from status quo and into the beginning of the apocalypse.

Really excited to see what we have here over the coming weeks.

They did however say on Talking Dead that the time period for "full" is dramatically lowered when a Chinese person is eaten.

Why wasn't this explained in TWD thread? It would have cut 20 pages out now that we know where the cut lawns were.

Can you shed any light on the stale gas situation? Did Lori have a gasoline additive fetish too? Did she go around like Johnny Appleseed filling car gas tanks with additive? I've gotsta know....

Digestive systems aren't working, they are dead. Lungs, heart? Nope, they aren't breathing or pumping blood either. Whatever they eat just finds the quickest exit it can. Early on it might be forced through the remaining digestive system, then lacking a functioning immune system their bodies parasites probably join in, they might bloat until they burst or they decay until their stomach falls out. Even if they were his clothes, it's SORTA possible his parents brought him some shoes for when he leaves. Call me crazy, but working in a hospital, I see it from time to time.

If they were the old dude's clothes, it's even sloppier writing. I mean, the old dude not only happens to code just when the kid gets a hand free, but he also happens to have a set of clothes that fits, with shoes, just sitting there for the kid to take? Sloppy.

I can see the quibble with the convenient timing- but it's not like those clothes or shoes look like they remotely fit the kid. that part didn't bother me at all. his johnny depp imitation bothered me more.

What exactly do you want from a pilot episode where they are just trying to introduce the characters pre-apocalyse?

Even if they were his clothes, it's SORTA possible his parents brought him some shoes for when he leaves. Call me crazy, but working in a hospital, I see it from time to time.

If they were the old dude's clothes, it's even sloppier writing. I mean, the old dude not only happens to code just when the kid gets a hand free, but he also happens to have a set of clothes that fits, with shoes, just sitting there for the kid to take? Sloppy.

FYI, if you have problems watching the show the next day they usually release the synopsis:

The next day, after Madison and Travis finally leave Nick alone in the hospital, he escapes by stealing the clothes of his elderly, and possibly dead, roommate. His goal is to find the drug dealer who sold him last night’s batch and figure out what it was laced with because he definitely did not see a zombie girl munching on someone’s face.

Not really - and spent a good deal of time in the TWD thread, but found that nugget to be above and beyond. Especially 1 episode in.

This seemed ok, but didn't really grab me. I heard it gets a little cheesier in the coming weeks when production moves to Vancouver.

There's gold to be mined with a Tucker and Dale vs. Zombies kind of show if a channel ever has the balls to run with it.

Edit to add: I'd also watch a pseudo "Doomsday Preppers" that evolved into a group of Preppers taking on zombies

Thank you! I kept saying last night that that kid was a Johnny Depp look-alike and was even copying some of his mannerisms, and my son just rolled his eyes at me. I'm glad somebody else picked up on this.
