I'm enjoying this show so far too. Like TWD itself, it's not especially well-written and isn't going to go down in history as one of the greatest shows of all time, but it's a fun guilty pleasure. Not sure what's wrong with enjoying it on that level.
I think most do enjoy it that way. It's just easy pickings when there are people defending the show(s) at all costs ignoring the fact you pointed out about it's writing.

souring on this one early. It seems kind of forced. I think i'll probably just DVR it and binge watch around Halloween, or wait for it to hit Netflix.

the girl that was in love with the black soon to be zombie kid is smokin hot though. Id like to see her in less clothing

she needs the Rosita wardrobe

I liked the episode. I liked that the families are separated now. The brother and sister have a good dynamic. I HATE the fact that nobody says what's happening that's just horribly sloppy writing. Reminds me of Lost when nobody asked any questions.
:goodposting: I like how the story is slowly progressing.. Love the :nerd: explaining what is about to happen and how no one YET is taking hims seriously.. Seems how it will be when it happens.

But agree 100% on the part of not explaining what they've seen.. Not to mention after her run in with Cal, still walking up to the Principal saying "we can get you help".. NO YOU CAN'T!! :wall:

No defending the writers on either of those parts.
Dunno - they don't yet that they are coming back from the dead. It seems stupid to you, the watcher. It's not stupid in the context of the show. Remember, heschel had a barn full of em because he's waiting for the cure. They don't live in a world with zombie shows - she's having a hard time separating with the principal she knew for years, with who knows what happened to him. Still thinks it's a disease, maybe she can get through to him.

3 black characters (Principal, boyfriend, drug dealer), 3 black zombies. Waiting for a Morgan character so FTWD is not totally rascist.

The walkers seemed to be moving slower than those in TWD. Is that because they are heavier (no decomp yet) or because they are able to eat their fill and a full stomach makes them less motivated or physically unable to move as fast?

Does Knife-boy become a long-term character? I think so and hope so because he should get to live for figuring the whole thing out early on.

I didn't check imdb or anything but I have a feeling he doesn't have sustainability on this show. I could see him being killed off soon?

People feel like they are better or smarter than others if they can point out flaws, even if they are insignificant. People like to feel smart and superior to others.

couple things they showed that were interesting:

cop stockpiling water in his cruiser.

cop shooting a walker in the head intentionally

mom figures out by accident that you have to kill the head

mom knows not to go outside to help the neighbors

dad is a horrible communicator, no wonder he's divorced

latina chick hiding in back of barber shop is a 10 on the offdee scale

being stuck in a shut in, is not good, you need to get movin chachi

we're about 2 days from total meltdown

thanks for the 2 wk break AMC

I don't know if it was mentioned yet, but I assumed the barber shop has somebody sick in the back..

Didn't they tell the dad he'd be safer up front when he tried to go in the back (the house area)?

Have to remember it's a world where Romero never made Night of the Living Dead, etc.

These people have no frame of reference for what they're seeing.

:kicksrock: IMDB says 2 episodes, so apparently that story line has ended. I was really hoping he'd go with the family.

Good example of the awesome writing for the show, btw, at least he got is knife back. Safe travels Tobias!\

ETA: apparently the Salazar's are in it for the long haul.

that's only for season 1...could be back in future seasons

Pretty much my sentiment too. As people have pointed out, there's some pretty terrible writing when you look at the minutiae of what they're doing. I don't get why nobody is talking about it. Heck, if my boss mindlessly attacked me in what appeared to be a zombified state I'm calling everyone I can until I get somebody from the government there. I also would think, even in a terribly strained relationship with an ex, that some of the crazy anger can be set aside and, on the heels of everyone knowing something at least weird is going on, one party could explain what he has seen to the other and she would realize he isn't kidding and they'd work together for their son.

But nonetheless, I do appreciate the attempt to sort of start at the genesis of this thing and I like the slow build. I do hope they explain it a bit more but I have a feeling the pimply faced nostradamus is going to be right and everything deteriorates really quickly without anybody learning anything about the virus.

Meh, I think it's still possible to both enjoy this show and recognize the crappy writing.

That's odd. Why not just have zombie Obama kill him off then?

Better writing than the first season of TWD.

Do you remember the group's defenses a month into the ZA? Camping in the woods with tin cans on a string as their warning signal.

I don't disagree.

I enjoy both shows and think both have crappy writing when it comes to the smaller details. Great premises though and both use the zombies as more of a secondary antagonist really well.

I liked the episode. Liked how the school kid tried to stab the principal to no avail, and even tried to stab him in the head. It didn't work since the knife was a cheap steak knife and his head was not rotted like in TWD.

Travis did tell his family what he witnessed after they were safe. Why try to explain to his wife, who didn't want to see him anyway and probably wouldn't have believed him, before she saw how things were going for herself? Once she saw the chaos, she told her son to listen to his father.

I could see reasons why the mother didn't want to tell her daughter what was happening until they were together and safe. She was trying to process what was happening and also probably trying to figure out what they would need to get out of town (after she saw school kid trying to stock up on food). She wanted Travis there with her to help make decisions, and probably didn't want to panic her daughter into trying to leave the house to go to her boyfriend... who the mom may have known was a lost cause.

I like how it is progressing and want to see where it goes.

Better than the premiere

Re: the gore...I think it's toned down because the people still look human and not all rotting

Agree those Mexicans are hiding a zombie...think their was some significance to them having 4 candles lit

Yeah, but, did you see that rioter just kick over the mailbox? I mean, what happened to the anchor bolts, I'd like to see you try that.

yeah, that was silly.

Has it been brought up in this thread that in the Kirkman Walking Dead stories, zombies don't exist in fiction?.....that Romero's Night of the Living Dead was never made. Makes the idea that characters don't understand/know what the deal is?

I thought the first episode was very well done......I hope they don't try to drag out the old "NOONE BELIEVES US!!!!!" schtick for six epsiodes though......the #### has to hit the fan fairly quickly for it to not be cheesy.

yeah I dont mind the teacher trying to help out her principal friend. In this world, she still knows very little. She knows something crazy is happening but not the extent.

For Christ's sake people. She is a guidance counselor, not a teacher. The divorced dad she is banging is the teacher. Do you even watch the show!?!?

That's how I approach all zombie movies.

Mindless fun.

Mom needs to figure out that the longer she hangs around at the house, the more danger they're in. Get the hell out of dodge and let him catch up later. The main characters in this have a huge knowledge heads up on what's going on and they need to be smarter than the average person if it's going to be believable that they survive.

I couldn't tell what was happening at the neighbors house. I saw someone being tackled, then getting up and running away. They were very quick. Are there quick zombies in this now?

I know it won't happen but it would be kind of cool if they did Fear anthology style showing how a new group of people deal with the outbreak in other cities and then they can just get eaten at the end

I'd guess after about 2 seasons of this it just becomes Walking Dead 2.0 with crappy characters

Tobias got eaten by his uncle and is mowing lawns with Lori, you could see him in the last scene across the street on top of a Kubota

We need some "colorful" characters, like a Daryl, or a Michonne. I know its too early in the zombie apocalypse to become a bad mfn zombie killer, but we still need some likable characters. So far, there isn't any at all.

Why would a school have antibiotics?

Isn't it illegal to put a bounce house in your front yard?

Pretty sure black people only let other black people cut their hair. Sloppy.

I sure hope that cop paid for that water.

Screw those cans of food. I'd go right for the chocolate milk and peanut butter squares.

You can put the bounce house in the front yard with a permit backyard without
