I think most do enjoy it that way. It's just easy pickings when there are people defending the show(s) at all costs ignoring the fact you pointed out about it's writing.

Dunno - they don't yet that they are coming back from the dead. It seems stupid to you, the watcher. It's not stupid in the context of the show. Remember, heschel had a barn full of em because he's waiting for the cure. They don't live in a world with zombie shows - she's having a hard time separating with the principal she knew for years, with who knows what happened to him. 3 black characters (Principal, boyfriend, drug dealer), 3 black zombies. Waiting for a Morgan character so FTWD is not totally rascist.
The walkers seemed to be moving slower than those in TWD. Is that because they are heavier (no decomp yet) or because they are able to eat their fill and a full stomach makes them less motivated or physically unable to move as fast?
Does Knife-boy become a long-term character? I think so and hope so because he should get to live for figuring the whole thing out early on.

I didn't check imdb or anything but I have a feeling he doesn't have sustainability on this show. I could see him being killed off soon?

cop stockpiling water in his cruiser.
cop shooting a walker in the head intentionally
mom figures out by accident that you have to kill the head
mom knows not to go outside to help the neighbors
dad is a horrible communicator, no wonder he's divorced
latina chick hiding in back of barber shop is a 10 on the offdee scale
being stuck in a shut in, is not good, you need to get movin chachi
we're about 2 days from total meltdown

These people have no frame of reference for what they're seeing.

Pretty much my sentiment too. As people have pointed out, there's some pretty terrible writing when you look at the minutiae of what they're doing. I don't get why nobody is talking about it. Heck, if my boss mindlessly attacked me in what appeared to be a zombified state I'm calling everyone I can until I get somebody from the government there. I also would think, even in a terribly strained relationship with an ex, that some of the crazy anger can be set aside and, on the heels of everyone knowing something at least weird is going on, one party could explain what he has seen to the other and she would realize he isn't kidding and they'd work together for their son.
But nonetheless, I do appreciate the attempt to sort of start at the genesis of this thing and I like the slow build. I do hope they explain it a bit more but I have a feeling the pimply faced nostradamus is going to be right and everything deteriorates really quickly without anybody learning anything about the virus.

I don't disagree.Better writing than the first season of TWD.
I enjoy both shows and think both have crappy writing when it comes to the smaller details. Great premises though and both use the zombies as more of a secondary antagonist really well.

I liked the episode. Liked how the school kid tried to stab the principal to no avail, and even tried to stab him in the head. It didn't work since the knife was a cheap steak knife and his head was not rotted like in TWD.
Travis did tell his family what he witnessed after they were safe. Why try to explain to his wife, who didn't want to see him anyway and probably wouldn't have believed him, before she saw how things were going for herself? Once she saw the chaos, she told her son to listen to his father.
I could see reasons why the mother didn't want to tell her daughter what was happening until they were together and safe. She was trying to process what was happening and also probably trying to figure out what they would need to get out of town (after she saw school kid trying to stock up on food). She wanted Travis there with her to help make decisions, and probably didn't want to panic her daughter into trying to leave the house to go to her boyfriend... who the mom may have known was a lost cause.

Has it been brought up in this thread that in the Kirkman Walking Dead stories, zombies don't exist in fiction?.....that Romero's Night of the Living Dead was never made. Makes the idea that characters don't understand/know what the deal is?
I thought the first episode was very well done......I hope they don't try to drag out the old "NOONE BELIEVES US!!!!!" schtick for six epsiodes though......the #### has to hit the fan fairly quickly for it to not be cheesy.

Mom needs to figure out that the longer she hangs around at the house, the more danger they're in. Get the hell out of dodge and let him catch up later. The main characters in this have a huge knowledge heads up on what's going on and they need to be smarter than the average person if it's going to be believable that they survive.

I know it won't happen but it would be kind of cool if they did Fear anthology style showing how a new group of people deal with the outbreak in other cities and then they can just get eaten at the end
