***OFFICIAL 'Fear The Walking Dead' Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Just a couple of other things.

That black guy is a jerk. I can't believe he sent Sam Galfanakis to the death squad.

How much of a ##### is Travis. Seriously even if you thought that the doughnut lady was still alive she had her arm eaten off, putting her down would have been merciful.

Worst soldiers ever. I mean how many zombies were in that library. For the love of god Abraham held off a ton of them next to a back hoe with a cinder block. Two squads couldn't bottle up a hallway? Terrible.

You just know Daniel thinks it is a great idea to let all the zombies out to tie up the guard while he saves his dead wife.
I was thinking this too. Seems pretty apparent he's going to do this, but it really makes no/limited sense since the military is bugging out anyway (if you're afraid of the military gunning you down, go hide in one of the abandoned houses). They can't go house to house in 2 hours.

Ok so you just found out that in the morning the army is coming to kill you what would you do?

Escape - Just get you family and sneak out with what supplies you could carry.

Hide - Go to an empty house and bunker down in the basement. I doubt they are going to re search every marked abandoned house looking for stragglers.

Divert - Go to a stadium and release thousands of zombies and try to escape in the ensuing confusion.

Get help - Do you take the time to warn neighbors? It would help them and aid you if there is some resistance to the army in the morning keeping them for looking for you while you escape or hide.

Make a break for it - Try to hijack a hummer/take out guards and make a break for it.

Use a hostage - I only bring this up because it was in the episode. Use the soldier for leverage.

Negotiate - Talk it out with the army.

Shane - Take out some neighbors and turn the walkers loose inside.

Fight - Go rambo and take down the army with your shotgun.
Not necessarily to get help, but if they were close neighbors/friends, I would let them know what's going on and maybe have them go along with me.

So LA has a population of around 10 million people? Where the #### is everybody? Where the #### are all the zombies?
Well, in this little suburb it appears they're either dead or trapped in teh arena.
My annoyance from the show is that the area they are in (San Gabriel Valley, east of downtown) is still a heavily populated area.
That's fair. I was midwestern-ly clueless to that. Thanks a lot.

People really thought we were going to see scenes in the sit room at the White House when they made decisions to fire bomb towns????....yeah now that I say it that sounds pretty cool. :(
"God #### it, General, I can't fire bomb Los Angeles! I have UCLA winning the NCAA tournament!"
"Well, their 7 foot center isn't doing #### for them now that he's turned. He used to dive for loose balls, now he tries to eat the other players! Totally useless now!"

President: "Gentlemen, it's time to nuke Los Angeles."

General: "I agree -- it's what we have to do to stop the zombie outbreak."

President: "There are zombies?"

In order for the zombie outbreak to overwhelm survivors, youd have to have a huge pctg of people contracting the virus and dying in a 30 day cycle, but were talking 80-90% infection rate. Not sure if theres a virus like that.

The idea currently in play on this show doesnt make much sense, the natl guard quarantined some areas so they can dispose of them later? So will be interesting to see how they make sense of that
I'm not getting the military's plan here - logistically how would they be able to move, house, and feed 10 million people?

Also, if they know people are turning into zombies when they die then why would they want to put people in confined spaces without thousands of others?
Because it hasn't even been two full weeks I don't think, and all their original plans were for "some sort of outbreak needing contained", not necessarily for the zombie apocalypse.

And the military isn't being "over run". The military is breaking down. Remember, the military is made up of people not robots.
Exactly. I can't believe most don't understand this. We know it's a zombie outbreak. But if this were actually happening, we wouldn't think it was a zombie outbreak. The vast majority of us would behave just as the people on this show.
i watched the last episode again last night. Its even better than i thought the first time through. there's so many levels of distrust here, that's the common theme through the entire episode.

when you watch the scene where the nat'l guard guys go into the library and get ambushed, you're led to believe that they got smoked or overrun by zombies. However, given that the one dude says "he's not coming" referring to the major, it could also have been a planned ambush on his own troops. I mean in the end times situation they are in, it wouldn't be inconceivable for a power tripping military guy to try to set up a kingdom where he's the top dog ala the Governor, who murders, rapes, tortures at will to achieve his ends. He can't do that in the Nat'l Guard structure, so lets thin the herd and set up my own cartel. I'm not so sure the Major is dead and I suspect we'll be running into his group in season 2.

we're at the point now where society has completely broken down, but the main characters don't yet understand it fully. The last episode will show the final realization.
Major?

This show is so bad. Loved the Breaking Bad shtick last week, with the ticking clock and the funky camera angle with the "perfect day" music. Hey guys, you need excellent writers and actors too, not just a WalMart clock and a Foley artist making ticking noises.

See ya next week.

I don't understand why the military plan is to kill everyone then leave. Just leave.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but i thought they were just gonna kill all the people in the holding facility, not everyone in the safe zone.
This was my understanding as well. Kill the sick and wounded and just abandon everyone else.
Agreed. Why would the people in the safe zone think that they were just leaving and not patrolling? If the military is going to kill the people in the safe zone, they would stay there and just kill them at that time, why leave and then come back in the morning? Maybe we are wrong, but I think that the plan is to ditch everyone at the holding facility.

My interpretation was they were going to kill everyone in the safe zone, guess we'll see. Another problem with this show it they aren't very clear on anything on either.

Nah, I think you're just wrong.

Would've been awesome. Instead, we're left watching a bunch of clueless losers goof off in a small fenced in community while explaining nothing about what's actually happening in the rest of the world. Such a waste

Show is really bad, can't believe they didn't even actually show anything in this show, such as major decisions being made that led to society breaking down or the continuing of society breaking down. Instead, we just go from hey there is a zombie to skip forward one episode and the military already killed almost everyone, yet there aren't any swarms/walkers to be seen, and presumably after next episode it will just be the west-coast walking dead, except with characters no one cares about? The writers should be ashamed as the pretty much had a slam dunk show here and failed miserably.
Yes, was looking forward to seeing how society tried to combat it, etc. But it didn't take long to see they weren't going to handle it in any kind of reasonable way.

The media aspect of it being a great example. Cases in 5 states, hospital workers know what they have to do with dead bodies. People hear "something" is going on enough to keep their kids home and not go to work so the power fails and society crumbles... yet a salacious detail like "people are turning cannibal" doesn't survive the rumor mill? How do you have enough cases for people to know something is going on, but not have a zillion youtube videos of zombies recorded by idiot teenagers who don't know how to turn their phone when recording video?

We had 2 cases of Ebola here in the US and you couldn't hardly find anything else on a news channel. Doesn't matter if their world doesn't know what zombies are. People are turning rabid and EATING each other isn't news worthy? It would dominate the news, there would be no way it could be covered up once a few cases happened.

Was really hoping to see how we'd combat something like this and how it could play out that we still lose. Instead... ugh.

Never read the Walking Dead thread. Bet it is a real treat.

Suspension of disbelief. Take a very large dose, then rewatch.

Can't really make a zombie show work without it.

jersey- here's my takeaway about the whole disbelief thing....

zombies- disbelief suspended. I'm good with a world where there are zombies.

people- need to act like... people... or things get goofy fast. sure, times are tough- there are zombies- but hard to suspend disbelief when smart people routinely act like idiots just so the writers can push a certain plot angle.

natural laws- science, physics, chemistry... whatever- gyrovan. zombies... I get it... they can break rules- but vans? lawn-mowing?!!!!

best shows- including TWD at it's best- can take something fantastical and make it believable and great because the rest of the world and people behave in a way that makes sense... at least that's my 2c

This, and duh.

But there's an army of JTGs (JTG, you're missing your brethren in TWD thread) that love pointing out that THIS IS A ZOMBIE SHOW so it has to not make any sense.

But, where does all the stuff they eat go?

Correctamundo!

again- zombies can do whatever... not exactly a precedent in place- other than the world they set up here. some of them can crawl. some can climb stairs. whatever. mow lawns and shoot bottlerockets 200 yards to a bullseye... then we have problems. forest stealth-mode... open for argument.

But, where does all the stuff they eat go?
Bloat, internal decay, further infection, more decay, innards eventually fall out.

I also HIGHLY doubt zombies can manage stairs.
If you can fall down and get back up you qualify for the ability to go up and down stairs.

Two really lazy arguments.
arguments?
see- now you're arguing.

WELCOME TO A WALKING DEAD THREAD

100% agree.

I just want to keep adding that we aren't arguing because we have nothing better to do, it's because we WANT this show to be good. It's out of disappointment. IMO, a crappy zombie show is still better than most crap on tv, but, imagine what could have been if the writers weren't so incompetent.

so if the National Guard is in charge here, what happened to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines?
National Guard ("national"!) is frequently the first line of defense for domestic issues, the governor can call them in for local stuff. Army/USMC - could be deployed, especially in a situation like this, but might be more red tape, and subject to national concerns, not local suburban LA concerns. Air Force of course probably was the first to be overrrun.

There's no local major military bases near east LA that are going to be onscene anyway...think most of them are up near San Fran.

This reminded me of the George W. joke.

Chief of Staff: Sir. I have some bad news. In the assault, two Brazilian soldiers were killed.

GWG: Oh my god, that's terrible. (3 seconds pass). Just how many is brazilian?

I'm with you there. There would be no way this didn't get out sooner. Plus, it seems the doctors and nurses were brought in on it too. Can you imagine that they wouldn't tell their friends/spouses/lovers about it?

Also thought the electricity going out so quickly was kind of hokey. Guess a zombie or two got stuck in the gears.

We're Alive is my favorite zombie media, a podcast with four seasons. It was also set in downtown LA and the whole place (people, electricity, etc) cleared out pretty quick. Must just be hard to write that many people in a civilized setting falling through.
