***OFFICIAL*** Last Comic Standing thread (1 Viewer)

I agree that the producers are apparently looking for a volatile mix of personalities in the house vs. comedy talent. Watching the performances last night, I thought some of the comics were obvious clear-cut decisions to make the grade, and then they turn around and pick 3 or 4 of the worst ones. I was stunned that the older woman and Stella both made it, especially. Totally sucks as well as dilutes the product when it appears so contrived and pre-determined who makes it and who doesn't, just like every other reality show.

Big-head Hank Hill guy is really funny, but didn't bring his best stuff last night (unless it ended up on the editing floor, which is entirely possible with this show). Nikki Payne is funnier than hell and totally got shafted, as did the dreadlocked guy in the red shirt.

I'm going to call it right now and say Dwyer ends up winning the whole thing, just because he's the most polished and would probably appeal to a broad audience, ala John Heffron last year.

IMO Palsy guy has this wrapped up, unless the house teams up against him knowing that is their only chance.

No love for "This kid just said 'bomb'."?

That was the best joke of the night.

Picking Stella was the worst joke of the night.

ETA: No fan favorite tonight?  I thought there was supposed to be one that gets an automatic pass to the house.  The fix is in.
Iglesias won Fan Favorite. I hate that stupid giggle of his.
I think he was clearly the best of the night, IMO. He shined.
He may be funny.. but something about him rubs me the wrong way. And not just the ringer mentality. Even when I see him on Premium Blend it's like "Oh god, not this guy again".
I agree with you the whole fat guy krispy kreme thing was OK, but didn't make me want to see anymore. All that aside, he got the fan favorite, so I have no issue with him making it.The other 5, I thought were all pretty poor. Even the Dwyer guy was not funny last night, so I am assuming he got in on his body of work. The skinny lady's funniest line was actually during her interview after her jokes with the Burns comment.

I'm sorry, that guy makes me uncomfortable. Not trying to be mean or anything. Does he look like Screech from "Saved by the Bell" to anyone?

Vote one comic back in.

This week's 5:

Mike Bocchetti (big head)

Gerry Dee (teacher)

David Huntsberger (??? from last week)

Nikki Payne (lisper)

Saleem (big black guy from last week)
How is Benson not on this list?
He might be on one of the next two. It appears they're going to have 5 polls (this is #3). Then they'll put the 5 winners head-to-head in one more poll. That winner will get back on the show.

 He's the funniest CP comic since Blair's cousin on the Facts of Life.

That line was a repeat. She used it in her audition. There were three repeated lines.

1) The short guy's "The comics will get progressively smaller as the night goes on."

2) The Mr. Burn's comment, which was good vamping, can't fault her.

3) ####### Stella who used the same horribly delivered joke about how her husband used to want to get into her pants, but now wants to get in line early at Cosco. Same exact routine, funny neither time. If you're going to be bad to begin with, at least have fresh material. She got extra negative points from me, beyond the fact she's got the poorest delivery, because she is the only one who reused the same joke. The short guy's joke was just his intro. The skinny woman's was a response to a question. This was rehashed. Guess all you have to do is show up

pregnant.

I'd say the same about the CP guy, except he's genuinely very funny and a good comic. This woman has NOTHING. She does a poor imitation of Rosanne twenty years after Rosanne did it.
I haven't been watching it that closely. I did find it funny after watching her answer the question with the Burns comment that that was the line NBC promo'd for her since it wasn't a joke in her act.Stella was awful. Heck, I pimp the heck out of Costco, my favorite store, but even I didn't find that funny at all.

All in all, just a sad result. The best thing about the episode was the look on all the guys in the room after Stella, the old broad and Mr. Burns got selected. You could tell every single one of them was like WTF? It would have been funny to be a fly on the wall to hear what they actually said afterwards.

The one thing I learned from the last two episodes is it sucks to be an average young white guy when it comes to comedy.

The producers were clearly picking 12 totally different types of people, with no regard for how funny they were.

My prediction: winner will be either Josh Blue or Chris Porter.

Caught the rerun last night. They made huge mistakes. The older woman was not funny. Stella: awful. I really liked the last guy to go, who was accentuating his segues. What was the "twist?" I didn't make it back to the channel in time. Did they take a sixth person?

They took the skinny chick, AKA Mr. Burns. She was better than Stella, Old Lady and the small girl, but all 4 of them could have been replaced by most of the comics that didn't make the cut.

Okay, thanks. I was surprised she didn't make it, but I agree, there were several funnier than her. I'm sick of that Mr. Burns joke.

Well the heckling was hilarious.

I feel sorry for the audience that had to watch the Preggo, the old hag and the redhead. Out of them the redhead should have returned, but who cares. 2 unfunny females gone.

Damn that redhead is hot. Too bad she's gone.
:X While she didn't look bad on the show, I'm guessing the next morning would be akin to sleeping with the Wicked Witch of the West when all of that make-up smeared off while pillow fighting.

Some of the heckling was hilarious. Josh and Chris did a good job playing off each other.I would have rather seen the short chick go to the showdown instead of the redhead, bur I can't complain about getting rid of 2 painfully unfunny women.

That's the problem with so many women on the show. All the in-house drama diverted attention from how unfunny Midget girl really was. I don't think she got one joke out while being heckled by Roz... and then when she was doing the heckling, had no material but calling Roz "Monique"

haven't seen any of this show, but the cerebal palsy guy did a show in my hometown in the middle of Nowhere, Nebraska...

sounds like he's doing good so far...

What I found great about last night.

The 3 "comedians" most here agree didn't belong in the final 12, were in the face off.

TG to Stella and, although nice looking, she had nothing that was funny so to red head also.

The midget girl was smart though. She picked someone to say she's funnier than who clearly wasn't going to be voted in to the elimination. The eliminated ones must pick someone who challenged them, hence she pick Bill Dwier knowing that she'd be safe (as long as everyone didn't pick her). Smart move.

How telling that other than the one woman picking Bill Dwyer for strategic reasons, not a single male comic was selected for elminiation. The women were painfully and obviously not funny and the producers really F-ed up by picking 6 of them for the house just to achieve gender balance.

It won't surprise me at all next week if the producers lean very heavily on some of the contestants to pick men for elimination, to spare us the spectacle of all-female faceoffs for the first 6 weeks. Which will be another nail in the coffin of this show.

 Once they get down to the final 6 "we" get to vote. I say "we" because I've never picked up a phone to vote for any of these contests.

Then it really doesn't matter if it's a mixed group or not. those that are watching for Comedic Genius(I'd say 90%) will continue to watch while the other 10% can go :bye: .

Isn't this show supposed to be for no-names? What is Bil Dwyer doing on this show?
The entire show is fixed by the producers so it's not really a free-for-all like they would like the average shmuck to think. As evidenced here, there is clearly a lot of producer involvement and the judges, the public and anyone else that has an opinion takes 2nd place to what the producers consider to be good television. There's a bit of irony there because most of the talk here is that the producers have actually made the show worse (at least as far as our amateurish opinion counts.)

<this link is from episode two however there is nothing to think that this involvement has been abated>

Incididentally, the heckling format was brilliant IMO. You really get to see the chops and personality of these comics.

Chris Porter is a truly quick and genuinely funny guy. He's the winner, if creme rises.
Chris Porter getting heckled by Josh Blue (the palsy guy)CP: I had sex with your sister

JB: My sister's dead

CP: No she's not, she just doesn't call anymore

Later..

CP: Oh yeah, that's why I had sex with your dead sister

JB: {deadpan} Inappropriate

:lmao:

I think the audience missed the brilliance of the Deadpan: "inappropriate" comment. It was a classic moment. :lmao:

Joey Gay's decision NOT to heckle -- stangely enough I respect it. I don't think it was so much as a cop out as a recognition that the heckling format would be fun if it were good natured amongst, say, a comedy troupe like Groundlings or Second City, but when it's cut throat and close to the bone it's an insult and disrespectful to the art of the comedians on stage.

The good heckling was good natured, with the exception of Hoezanne, who was a ##### and deserved some a good comic juxtaposing her lack of talent with a good distillation of her flaws.
Agree 100% with Ham.Chris Porter (the Willy Wonka guy)- has the best improv skills of that group by a mile. The Palsy kid also impressed me, I've got to say- and I really, really liked the good natured back and forth those two gave- seemed to be a mutual respect thing going on.

Also respected Joey Gay's decision- but then was just a little suprised to see him come out all guns' blazing when he was on stage responding to the heckles...

Regarding the midget chick- my wife thinks she's hilarious, but can't explain it. I usually get her humor... but not this time.

I personally thought the Marijuanalogues guy who's always on VH1 (with the seque bit... "ironically, a baby ate my pet dingo") was the funniest of all of them, but I'm sure the producers were going for "Real World" house-drama over funny in their voting...

I thought they laughed at that. Even Chris cracked up at that one.

I thought roz was notable, I assumed she would be picked not because of her personality or largeness but I thought because she was funny.

Joey Gay and the redhead should not have gone, not sure why they did - maybe they thought the redhead was the hottest out of the bunch = ratings, the blonde might have been hotter but her material was too blue.

I thought the biker dude was marginal, one guy I liked had the black hair with the expressionless face and delivered the one liners, but for the life of me cannot remember any of his material and I deleted my tivo recording.
I knew she had talent, she did great heckling

I somehow missed this thread and posted outside of it very early this morning. Anyway, I'm caught up now!

First off, I'm no Jay Mohr fan, but new host Anthony Clark is horrible. I've seen a few remarks about him here, but not nearly enough. He claims he's been doing stand-up for 17 years, but it's mind-boggling how he could exude absolutely no personality on this show. He makes it a tough watch. It's like he's reading straight off the cue cards in the most boring monotone he could come up with. Is he honestly the best comedian they could find to host this show? There had to be someone out there looking to advance his or her career that would have been juiced to do this show and actually add something to it. I never thought I'd say it, but where have you gone Jay Mohr?

Second, the first couple of episodes were great when they were out looking for ten comedians. There seemed to be a lot of interesting people vying for a spot this year. Sadly, not many of them made it through. Since those episodes, I'm not so sure about this season.

They had two episodes, 20 people each, who made it to L.A. Five from each show were picked to get down to the 10 who would end up together in the house (which turned out to be a boat).

My problem was, each episode was only an hour. Each person was supposed to get three minutes in front of jugdes Gary Marshall, Kathy Griffin and Tim Meadows. The producers chose to show maybe 15-30 seconds of each person and only once in a while a comment from one of the judges.

If the producers instead had made those 2 shows 2 hours each, it might have been good. Why not show each person's full 3 minutes? You got no feel for anyone and whether or not they were any good. It would have been interesting to see the judges reactions to each person as well. I would much rather watch someone bomb for 3 minutes then see a candy-coated, edited version of his or her performance. It's not like there's a lot of competition on TV this time of year, why not let us see each person's entire act? Maybe they didn't want to be too much like the American Idol format, but this was not a good choice for these two episodes.

The first episode on the boat was all right, but the one chick Stella, who should have never made, as many here have pointed out, sabotaged the whole show. Thankfully she was booted, but all-in-all, it's been a not so stellar start to a show that I have enjoyed in the past.

I actually remember Clark when he first came up and I think he used to be pretty funny. I don't know what happened to him, but he's shooting for Dunkleman territory.
