Who do you guys have for LEAST Valuable Player right now?  Gotta be Trevor Story, right?  My god....

1.  Trevor Story
2. Marcus Semien
3. Whit Merrifield
I have absolutely zero evidence to substantiate this but signing guys from
Colorado seems very dumb to me.

Arenado has been good.  LeMahieu has been good.  Matt Holiday, Dexter Fowler were good elsewhere.  I don't think there is much correlation.  If a player is good then he will be good elsewhere.  Story's bad start is still a small sample size with respect to baseball typical numbers.  Don't get me wrong, he has been terrible but I don't think it has to do with not being in Colorado anymore.

My 96 year old grandmother passed away yesterday, and she loved watching the Phillies every game.  She would ##### and complain at the TV. . ..   Headed to the big ballpark....

Didn't mean to bring the thread down but wanted to say how much she loved it

Sorry to hear that.

me Ma - who also lived to 96 - was totally my connection to the game (sports, really - dont recall me Da ever watching a game of his own volition), from bringing me to our stop and giving me $ for ticket/transport and a bag of cucumber sammiches to go to Fenway on my own @ 10yo or watching her big fwappy arms flail ironing the laundry to Curt Gowdy's call of Sox games. dont think she missed a game when home for 60 yrs.

Just insane.

Shohei.

last night - 2 HR 8 RBI
tonight - 8IP 2 hits 0 runs 1 bb 13K (also had a hit and 2 BB at plate)

The first two hitters had singles, and then he no hit them for 8 innings.

No one ever has had 8 RBI one day, and 13K the next.

I can’t even fathom how much he is going to earn/season in free agency next year.

He’s unbelievable. He gets talked about a lot obviously, but I don’t know if we truly appreciate what we are witnessing with this guy. Living on the east coast, I wish I could watch him more often.

He did play the Royals though, so you can reduce that accomplishment about 25%.

My grandma could strike out at least 8 Royals.

Dylan Cease is the 73rd pitcher ever to have over 120 strikeouts & a sub-2.50 ERA in 17 or fewer starts before the All Star Break.

The other 72 were all named to the All Star Team those years.

The White Sox as a team have been underachieving this year so it has been good to see Dylan tearing it up at least.

Until TLR is fired/steps down/goes into another role, that clubhouse is going to struggle. It's not all because of one guy, but in this case, the manager sets the tone and TLR's old school ways aren't helping the cause.

Defending champs are 30-9 over their last 39 games.  After a very ordinary start they've moved to 1.5 games behind the Mets.  Should be a pretty good fight for the NL East and the 2nd division winner bye.  With as bad as the Central bottom 3 are you would think the Brewers or Cards could make a run to get that 2nd bye but I think Mets and Braves are stronger teams.  Padres, 2nd in the East and 2nd in the Central seem the likely wildcards.  Not sure the Phillies and Giants have enough.

No doubt this team is a freaking mess and TLR needs to go. It's amazing that Cease is getting snubbed with the year he's having regardless of how bad the Sox have performed.

The Royals are calling up eight minor leaguers to replace the ten players on the restricted list.  They'll add two more pitchers later in the series presumably because two days of big league pay/service time is going to make a difference.

This organization is a joke.

How can you have a team where almost half of your 25 man roster can't travel for a 4 game series?  And this was a year that our GM thought they were gonna compete for a playoff spot!

So they knew going in that they were basically going to piss away a 4 game series.  You can tell how much of a "team" they are.  Disgraceful.

Royals batters had significantly better approaches than the Jays tonight. Pretty embarrassing display,  actually.  Aaa team beats a jays team that considers themselves contenders.

Loved it. My favorite Royals game of the year.

Mariners win 11 in a row, thanks to Ty France, one of MLB's best hitters and a filthy bullpen.....look out for this team. If not this year, then very soon.

I think Kopech and Cease have flip flopped performance wise.  I expected Kopech to be pitching better than Cease (not to the level Cease has been at but better).

I'll be interested to see how tonight's game goes with Kopech both personally for him, but also for the team as a whole. They have been pretty good about flopping pretty considerably after having an offensive outburst (like they did last night).

I wouldn't be surprised to see them 1-hit tonight against a marginal Twins starter.

Kopech has been really disappointing.  I think his velocity is down 3-4 mph and I think it started after he was on the IL for a bit with a knee injury.  I think that is causing him some issues still and really affecting his velocity which affects all his pitches off his FB.

This will be the definitive turning point tonight. Something tells me they keep it going. They’ve ####ed around long enough during the first half of the season. It’s put up or shut up.

He was fabulous the first 1/3 of the year. The Sox gave him almost no run support and he had zero wins through 8 starts despite a sub 2.0 ERA and more Ks than innings pitched.  The last few starts have not been great.

I think all of those have come after his IL stint which is promising because it gives a plausible reason for his struggles.  Makes you wonder if they should shut him down again to get him fully healthy.
