I thought it was pretty clear that during the time travel Captain Steve became Captain Sam's father.  That means that Captain Sam inherited the Captain America powers and was a logical choice for the shield to be passed to.  It was all spoon fed to the viewer.

Why does there have to be foreshadowing? Most people, when they get old, if they have something that means a lot to them, want to pass it on to someone else. Cap did that with his shield. Even if I hadn't read the comics, I would not think of this as odd.

Not sure what you are looking for. For comic fans, its a nice Easter Egg that he passed the torch to Falcon. For people who only watched the movies, like myself, he just gave him the shield at the end because it was his closest friend and he trusted him with it. That's really all that we need to know. Im not really sure I get the complaint.

Fair enough.  All I'm saying is that it seemed like it had some kind of meaning but wasn't explained.  For a superhero to hand off his main item to another superhero and say something like, "You deserve this", with no explanation, seemed odd.  That's on me for questioning a Marvel storyline.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the Russo's hinted Steve Rogers story is not done.  They said they understand the questions people have and hope they will be able to tell his story of going into the past.

Got it, GB.  Again, I apologize for asking a question.  That was my bad and I am sorry beyond belief.  If I could pull an Antman and go back in time to stop myself from asking that question, I would.  But I can't.  I now I must live with that horror the rest of my life.  Please let your family know I'm sorry if they were offended by any of the shrapnel from my stupid question.  I just hope we can all move forward from this.  But I will totally understand if the pain is too great to ever forget, let alone, forgive.

 
They may have just left this all up to the audience to decide but it seemed clear in the last scene that Bucky knew exactly what was going on and what was about to happen (which is why he tells Sam to go forward on his own to eventually get the shield from cap).

Actually, the entire premise of becoming Batman was to be a symbol that could continue regardless of who was in the suit.

Are you talking the Cap dancing scene? He looked at a locket with a picture of her face in it a million times during this movie alone it felt like. And saw her in the past and stared for 50 seconds. Even talked about her with his therapy group in the early scene.

If you mean handing the shield off to Falcon...Falcon's been his buddy in the movies for a very long time and they already established that "Captain America" is a mantle/persona when he stopped carrying the shield and started going by Steve Rogers instead of Cap for a while after Civil War.

Why can't people understand that comic book readers have no place in this thread?  They should have their own thread since the comic book world is completely different from the cinematic universe. I mean, sure, Cap passed the torch on to Sam at the end of the movie, but other than that there is literally nowhere else in the MCU that even references him passing the torch on to Sam.  Jeez, people...

Within that scene, Sam says something like "I can't imagine a world without Captain America" with the implication being he is more than just a super hero but a symbol of what America is and a symbol of hope.

No one cares about the Falcon - I'm not sure they ever even call him that in the movies just that the equipment he uses is labled as "Project Falcon" - so he wants Sam to continue the Captain America legend. What I don't get is the Sam only operated the military Falcon weapons and has no super power so he'd make a pretty lame Captain America.

More like Bruce Wayne handing the Batman cowl to a Robin or Nightwing...which has happened many times. Not a good example. The point of legends like Batman and Captain America ends up being that they are a symbol more than just being one specific man. Hell it's even implied in Nolan's last Batman that the cowl is passed on. This isn't difficult stuff.

I was kidding brother. Things went a little sideways upstream and I am just piling on a bit. It's all good.

But you're wrong about passing the shield. It's meaning and the successor were both painfully obvious and required zero exposition.

I wouldn't say I'm wrong, but I understand what you're saying.  I think it's a subjective thing. We all have our opinions.  And honestly, all I said was I thought it was odd.  I just brought it up in here because I thought people could help me understand better.  And boy howdy was I right!  People were incredibly happy to help me understand.  :lol:

But seriously, you can't please everyone.  And I said from the get go I really liked this movie.  Thought it was great.

The movie was too long in general but I cant find much about it i dont like. I'm not paying to go see it in theatre again. That said Def getting it on disc and looking forward to watching the whole saga in one viewing

No, but during our 2nd viewing I leaned over and said: "True hero of the movie" to my wife.  She told me to S-T-F-U.

I also brought up Hawkeye's wife's awesome phone battery.  Just got another elbow in the side.
