***Official President Joe Biden Thread*** BEST EVER! (1 Viewer)

Are you ever going to move past? Ever?  How long can you guys hang on to it I wonder
As in the you guys you mean the 62% of America that is celebrating the peace and serenity?    Moving on is exactly why Biden is at 62%.  We are leaving that mistake behind.  There is plenty of room for you to hop on the bandwagon and ride into the future as we finally stick a fork into the great mistake that started with the 1980 election.

That's my point.  You're telling me to jump on the bandwagon but you seem to have a very difficult time not looking behind you.  So it appears you are not even close to leaving that mistake behind as you call it. Seems you're still awash in it.

Trump is behind you..The bad man is gone.  Look to the future.  Judge Biden on his accomplishments(Or lack thereof) rather than his difference from Trump.

And we are still dealing with the negative consequences of his one term presidency (see SCOTUS, Post Office, false allegations of voter fraud, to name a few) and probably will for the next decade.

SCOTUS is fine, it doesn't align with your politics and that's unfortunate, but nothing "bad" happened there.

The Post Office is still an issue and an issue that was not caused by Trump.  And the voter fraud thing, there are plenty threads on that.

So I can't agree with any examples you cite as "negative" consequences...at least from my seat.

It certainly was with the actions of the Postmaster General he appointed.

His actions made it measurably worse, but the problem wasn't caused by him.  We're basically saying "don't mind the dousing of the bonfire with gasoline, the bonfire was already there and burning".

I think you're missing the point here.  Prior to 2016, I had a certain set of criteria on which I judged POTUS.  That criteria included things like time spent in office (the longer you're there, the more I would hope you achieve), achievements that I believed were positive for the nation, achievements that I believed were detrimental for the nation, period of time during which Congress was amenable to POTUS goals (e.g. Obama had a filibuster-proof Senate majority for a very short time), etc.  Prior to 2016, it never occurred to me that my criteria should include basic decorum, the good sense to not make fun of handicapped people, the ability to say "Oops, I made a mistake there" instead of threatening to fire weather people who contradict my statement on which direction a hurricane is headed, etc.

Now I know better, and I will consider those criteria forever more.

Meh.  Rush still complained about Bill Clinton.  Just about every Conservative pundit still whines about perceived injustices during the Obama years.  Hell, most of those same guys are using the imaginary Hillary Clinton Presidency as a talking point.

Actually, even the above doesn't really capture the entirety of the explanation.

If the entirety (or, let's say 99%) of the country took a stand and noted that the type of behavior described above is not acceptable and that we should absolutely never again tolerate it in our leaders, that would be one thing.  Maybe we could all move on and after a brief period of adjustment (maybe a few POTUS terms just to be sure), start once again not considering basic, decent behavior as a meaningful criteria of POTUS performance.

But that's not what's happened.  Instead, we have a significant majority of the GOP that refuses to condemn such behavior and continues to actively cheer it on and reward their Congressional representatives and other party leaders for behaving in the exact same manner.  How can the rest of us not take basic human decorum into account when the Trump supporters are still out there actively rooting for this kind of behavior to return to the White House?

He most certainly did..

It is what it is, but by the end of summer honeymoon for him will be over, more and more of his voters are getting upset at him. By end of Summer, there is a huge chance a lot of people could be homeless with Red States ending the Unemployment early. He has done nothing to combat that and pretty much was ok with it.
Can you agree that he campaigned on the 2000 dollar checks? And then, after he won the election, congress passed a 600 dollar check instead. Are you arguing that he was in fact campaigning on a 2600 dollar check and not a 2000?

Also - I am unsure why people in red states that lost unemployment benefits because of cuts by republicans in their state would take it out on the democratic president.

No the Georgia Senate races were after the 600 Trump gave. Warnock even made the claim that the 1400 should have been 2000 cause that is what they campaigned on.

Trudeau slaps tarriff on american cheese.

Biden wants to double lumber tarriff with canada.

Socialism at its finest.
I am not sure what you are talking about. Are you talking about tariffs that Canada has always had on American cheese (and all foreign dairy products)? Or are there new tariffs? Most of those tariffs long predate Trudeau or Biden (or Trump or Obama).

I agree that seems like a bad move at this time. I was asking about the dairy tarrifs. Sorry if that was not clear.
Well they have been around a while.   Specifically the white house thinks the canadians are manipulating the figures the cheese imports.   I however am not that concearned about what the canadians are doing.   Im concearned about Biden making things worse.

Joe loves.....

"Look at the berettes in her hair.  I tell you what.  Look at her she looks like shes 19 years old sitting there like a little lady"

--creepy Joe Biden

The tariffs on Dairy have been there forever.  Has to do with the dairy farming system in Canada.  It sucks.  Whenever we go to the US, we buy milk and cheese (so cheap).  I was hoping this would get changed when they were negotiating the free trade agreement.

The lumber tariffs are a joke.  The US has a strong Lumber lobyists group.  They try this every 3 years and it works for a year until the WTO rules in Canada's favor (every time).  It just inflates the price of lumber even more.

This is right up there with Obama's problem not visiting Katrina right after it happened.  But it's slightly better given Trump's battle with them in 2019...oh did we forget about that?  Yeah...it was labeled "alpha male".  We can do better....I think :oldunsure:
I appreciate your interest in canadian national politics.

But hey if you wanna pay even more for a sheet of plywood knock yourself out.

With biden driving up gas prices and doing vlads bidding.   Im tapped out.   I only hope he doesnt repeal trumps tax cuts.

My expectation is that for the rest of my life every single President will get a “not-Trump” boost in his approval ratings.
Agreed. I also expect voter turnout will see a boost several elections post-Trump.

Despite never voting prior to 2020, I plan on exercising my right for the foreseeable future, as clearly there are too many Orange Man Good people to facilitate somebody like him rising to power again.

I guess we can't do better

I have no idea what a sheet of plywood has to do with the dairy industry, but you keep fighting the good fight!!

I was talking about biden increasing tarriffs on wood imports 300%.    I can see why you dont want to focus on that.   Makes Biden look like he is out of touch.

Much like your focus on canadian dairy policy.

You guys are desperate to try to land a shot.
Dude...it's like hitting a whale in a bathtub.

Every time he opens his mouth, the whale gets bigger.
It's obvious why he stayed in his basement during the campaign..
