Please elaborate on this. I've been wanting to visit the RnR HOF for a long time, but I don't seem to get to Cleveland very often. I was under the assumption that there would not be much there regarding punk. What sort of stuff do they have?I'm a metalhead that grew up in the 80's and missed out on the real punk scene. I really wish I would have had those early influences but I was into later stuff like Bad Brains, Suicidal, SOD. I loved Carnivore (Pete Steele before Type O ) and think they don't get enough attention for their crossover. Another favorite was Leeway. I big song that gave a boost to punk with metalheads was when Megadeth did Anarchy.
I thought the most interesting part of the RocknRoll Hall of Fame museum was the punk section.
So I thought, "Huh, Herb, you've never heard of R5. If Acer is seeing them they must be pretty cool. Let's check into this."Im sitting at an r5 concert at the best buy theatre right now
lol. Actually a 7 year old daughter and 4.5 year old son who were super psyched last nightJim from pennywise actually had a book before that movie came out. A buddy of mine bought it for me when I had my first kid.So I thought, "Huh, Herb, you've never heard of R5. If Acer is seeing them they must be pretty cool. Let's check into this."A few Spotify clicks later...Im sitting at an r5 concert at the best buy theatre right now
And I discovered that Acer has a tween daughter. That he really really really loves a lot. God Bless the fathers and the thankless, humiliating #### they have to endure.
ETA: There's an excellent film called "The other F Word" about punk rock dads. Check it out if you haven't already.
The Ramones, The Clash, The Stooges, and the Sex Pistols are bands that I'm pretty sure are in. And then I subsequently Googled and they are all indeed inducted. Please elaborate on this. It's been about 10 years since we went and I'm not sure if it was a regular exhibit or not but they did a good job of laying out the story of punk chronologically with some great memorabilia. I love museums that bring you through a timeline and I found most of the RnR museum to be too scattered and unorganized. The punk exhibit might be too basic for a real fan but I found it to be really interesting and informative. Please elaborate on this. No doubt. If that was Murphy's Law only show at The Moon in New Haven, CT, I was at that show. I don't remember the club being around for that long. Chuck Treece opened, IIRC. I'm not a hardcore guy, but I always dug Murphy's Law.
I'm cool with all those bands being in. Personally, I never "got" the Clash, but their influence is undeniable. I also don't really consider them "punk", but that's not what this thread is about and I'm not the arbiter of what is or is not "punk."The Ramones, The Clash, The Stooges, and the Sex Pistols are bands that I'm pretty sure are in. How many nominees do we get? What is the criteria? Two that immediately come to mind are The Dead Boys and The Damned. The Buzzcocks, too, of course. And Wire, if they're considered punk.
I'll let others nominate after those.

I didn't "get" The Clash -- with exceptions -- until much later in life. Then I began to absolutely love them. I consider them punk, still, but I've linked below to somebody who doesn't. You're right, it's tough to be an arbiter of what is "punk" and what isn't. I generally go with consensus when thinking about it, because I can't possibly craft a working definition. It's like that obscenity definition that you know it when you hear it.I'm cool with all those bands being in. Personally, I never "got" the Clash, but their influence is undeniable. Nominate as many as you want. This is punk- there are no rules. I like your noms and if you think they're worthy then they are. I especially like MC5, even if punk wasn't around when they were. I'm OK considering them the first or one of the first punk bands. "Kick Out the Jams" is a punk tune for sure.

The Cure--not a huge fan, but their body of work deserves the recognition, IMO
Journey--How is Journey not in??? I mean, fine, I'm the big ##### in a punk thread talking about Journey, but seriously. Journey isn't in the RnR HOF? They have more hits than La Cosa Nostra
Brian Eno-- Is not in the HOF. This guy is one of the greatest artists in rock history. WTFF?
The Smiths- Don't really like them actually, but they probably deserve to be in the HOF
Personally, I love Joy Division, PIL, and MC5, but not sure they deserve to be in
Jehu is my favorite band of all time.ROME PLOWS!!!Any other fans of John Reis/Rick Froberg stuff like Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Rocket from the Crypt? Never got The Jam as a youth, and by then, taste speeds by and you never quite can recapture the energy you once had, you know? I always loved "In The City," but when I bought their greatest hits, I wasn't into it.HellToupee said:Glaring omission on that list is The JamThe Ramones, The Clash, The Stooges, and the Sex Pistols are bands that I'm pretty sure are in. I actually very much dislike Lars. I consider him the Yoko Ono of Rancid. Their first album and Let's Go were them at their best (yeah, Lars was on Let's Go, but no song writing and little singing). I just don't buy his screaming thing. Doesn't have an emotional connection with me. Reminds me of when Dave Grohl tries to scream. I skip most Lars heavy songs. And I miss Matt singing more.I have a 9 mos old daughter. I hope someday she asks me what punk rock is. I will play Rancid's Out Come the Wolves followed by Life Won't wait.
No one sings punk quite like Lars.
Other great NYCHC bands: Agnostic Front, Cro Mags, Merauder, Etown Concrete, Madball.

Vocals: Stiv
Guitar: Johnny Thunders
Bass: Dee Dee Ramone
Turns out these guys did an album together. Stiv Batoirs: Last Race. I found out about it in HS and spent years trying to track it down. The internet finally started earning it's keep and I found a French record label that was selling it. I wrote them an email and they had me send them a money order for the CD. I was so freaking stoked. A couple months later it came it the mail. Nothing could have lived up to the build up I had for this album, and this was no exception. There's some good stuff on there including better recorded version of Dee Dee's Poison Heart, bt overall it is way less than the some of there parts.
