The cluster #### that is Toronto FC continues. After last night's debacle, Ryan Nelsen and his entire staff have been fired and Defoe might be sold to QPR.

Toronto FC has fired manager Ryan Nelsen and his entire coaching staff in the wake of Nelsens public dressing down of general manager Tim Bezbatchenko.

The official announcement was made at a news conference Sunday, after Nelsen confirmed the firing in advance to The Canadian Press.

Greg Vanney, head of TFC Academy, was named Nelsens replacement.

There could be more change in the offing. Star striker Jermain Defoe could be headed to Englands Queens Park Rangers, according to a source close to the situation.

Nelsen declined to go into reasons for his dismissal, but it was clear that he and Bezbatchenko were at odds with the rookie GM flexing his muscle in the wake of news that MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke, a champion of Nelsen and the team, is planning to leave.

Defoe is unhappy about the direction of the club without Leiweke, the source said, and wants out.

Defoe and midfielder Michael Bradley were at the heart of a $100-million revamping this season of the traditionally underachieving MLS franchise.

The 9-9-6 team, while ravaged with injuries to Defoe and key defenders, stood fourth going into Sundays schedule with a shot at the playoffs for the first time ever. The top five in each division advance to the post-season.

Nelsen, in his second year at Torontos helm, was also one win away from matching Torontos franchise high of 10 with 10 games to go.

The club wasted little time removing evidence of Nelsen. Photos of the coaching staff that hung at the teams north Toronto training facility were gone Sunday, although Nelsens empty parking space still bore his name.

Security officials screened reporters and others arriving for the news conference.

The 36-year-old Nelsen leaves with a record of 15-26-17. None of the seven coaches before him notched more wins.

But in the wake of Saturdays 3-0 loss to New England, the manager put himself in the firing line after lambasting Bezbatchenko at the post-game news conference for telling reporters on the eve of the game that the team had to do better.

Nelsen apparently knew the writing was on the wall this week, and the timetable was accelerated when Bezbatchenko summoned local reporters Friday to challenge his team to take it up a notch.

Nelsen was not made aware that the GM was going to speak out and was furious.

Knowing that the axe was poised, he spoke out after Saturdays game, saying Bezbatchenkos words had not helped matters.

Nelsen then went on to accuse Bezbatchenko of effectively sabotaging his own team by unnecessarily raising the stakes before a match that was not crucial, given there were 10 more remaining after it.

Ive won this league, played in it for four years, been in the (English) Premier League for 10 years, played in a World Cup, Olympics. Ive played in some pretty hot pressure games, said Nelsen, a former New Zealand international defender. One thing that I do know is this was not one of them.

The inference was clear. Nelsen had paid his dues in the game. Bezbatchenko, a 32-year-old rookie GM hired out of the league office by Leiweke last September, hadnt.

It affected the guys, Nelsen said of Bezbatchenkos words. What we do at Toronto FC is we keep it in-house everything we do, we keep inside the four walls. And the players, coaching staff, everything, stays within the four walls.

The message a day earlier from Bezbatchenko was that the revamped MLS team has had time to gel. Now it has to fire on all cylinders.

I think everyone would agree the coaches, the players that over the last 12 or so games, it hasnt been good enough, at least for making a run in MLS, Bezbatchenko said.

He also said his message to the fans and the club was: The time is now . . . Its we mean business now.

The ref from the Brazil/Colombia match today. Gave Alves a yellow for being cleated in the ###. :lmao:
I don't care what happened in the match, but he deserved it (probably).Barça alone at the top of the table. Chances they run it from week 2 to week 38? They'd have to top 100 points to do it.

What time is the deadline tomorrow?

Again a team source tells me #TFC has received a $11M transfer from QPR. Bez confirms they're considering an offer but wouldn't say from who

I heard 6 Eastern. NBC Sports is going to have a deadline show.

Looks like the Alessio Cerci deal finally got done for his move to Atlético. It will cost 16m + 3m in bonuses. A 3rd party investment fund is putting up 8m which will turn into 10m paid by Atleti next season. Sounds like a nice return for one year, no?

In any case, that's a fun set of wingers and attacking midfielders in Koke, Arda, Griezmann, and Cerci.

Real Madrid up 2-0 after 6 minutes. Sociedad storms back with 4 in a row to tale a commanding lead
Just watched the recording - amazing game. I almost turned it off after 10 minutes but decided to stick it out and watch Kroos and James in their new side.

Madrid's squad is ridiculous - sell Di Maria, leave Ronaldo at home and you can still put out that side. Crazy.

All credit to Sociedad - they played fantastic after going down 2.

The Falcao saga is probably going to be the big story tomorrow. Tancredi reported on Thursday the loan to Real was a done deal, took a ton of heat the past two days but stuck by his source, and is now saying both Manchester teams are mucking it up by overbidding, causing Monaco to try to back out of its deal w/RM.

What about Iker? Is RM going to let the window close with him #1?

Watched the Barca game and now watching the Real game. Expanding my horizons

Is La Liga considered better than the BPL? or Opposite?
You'll get a lot of different arguments about this subject... but IMO EPL has a few more teams at the top than La Liga or Bundesliga, but otherwise pretty similar. Serie A is down right now -- definitely a step behind.
I think La Liga's a half-step behind the EPL, a couple years ago I'd say they were a half step ahead. But Spain's economy has been hit pretty hard and there needs to be a better revenue-sharing model in place for mid-table teams.

But Spain's teams have a massive natural pool of talent to draw from, which England doesn't.

No clue on whether they'll get anyone but he wasn't really responsible for 3 of the 4 goals today. On Vela's goal he was asking for a handball instead of seeing the play out. Not likely he would have stopped it if he was fully prepared but he was more interested in arguing with the ref than trying to make a stop.

Madrid has a plethora of attacking talent, but this Modric/Kroos center midfield is going to be exposed defensively.

ESPN reporting that Chicharito is going on loan to RM. Interesting in light of the Falcao transfer news.

http://www.espnfc.us/story/2014479/real-madrid-reach-agreement-with-manchester-united-for-javier-hernandez-report
that is odd. Is he really going to get more playing time their?
I wouldn't think much, although they will play a lot more games than United this season and it never hurts to have RM on your resume. United only have FA Cup and league matches and it was pretty obvious LvG wasn't going to be using him much. It boggles my mind how SAF was able to use the talent at his disposal but Moyes and LvG (so far) haven't come close.

So, I'm watching PSG beat the crap out of Saint-Etienne and thinking, PSG would be a great side to play for - big club, they seem to be setup to get in to the CL pretty consistently, you get to live in Paris, you get to play with Zlatan

We all have our favorite side and for most in here it's some European club. But if you take them out of consideration, what other club would you like to play for?

I don't expect English clubs to be that high on the list due to weather - maybe if you always wanted to live in London I could see Arsenal or Chelsea

Dortmund.

Falcao to United is going to happen. Incredible. Of course it doesnt make a lick of sense unless RVP is having surgery.

Week 2 of the Bundesliga is in the books:

What's the team record for spending in one window? ManU has to have it now, right?

And Wenger is off to Rome to watch a charity match. :wall:

PSA, if you haven't watched Kingsley Coman of Juve, do it. Kid is a stud
He was phenomenal...positioning, runs, passing, his 1st touch was(dare I say) sublime; When I first saw his name in starting lineup I was like Haha!...then I saw him play & was like M##### F#####!...and that was without Pirlo.

So my belated thoughts about Liverpool v Spurs.

It felt like I was watching Liverpool vs City from last weekend, except Spurs were Liverpool, and Liverpool were... well... Liverpool, just flip it. Two teams playing a high and aggressive D, one of them getting punished for it by a superior attacking team.

Balotelli- despite looking really rusty with the ball (I saw him miss at least 2 open sitters that any in form forward would bury, let alone miss-hit/time a lot of passes)... he was still a monster with his runs and linkup (even if unsuccesful more than not) play. Portends very, very good things for that attack that didn't really need much help- especially with the way Sturridge and Sterling are playing. And their high pressure, high line defense will work well against the teams that don't have the class to beat it.

Liverpool thus far looks like a team that belong in the CL top four discussion, along with City and Chelsea. Everton, Spurs and Arsenal look like teams who will fight it out for that last spot. United- it's a long season, and all those signings HAVE TO improve their attack- but so far they look like they'll have to win 4-3 type games all season, even against the mid-tiers (in which they currently reside).

Chelsea is all set on HG roster numbers now with van Ginkle loaned to Milan. I really thought Cech would be sold, and it's still possible, but seems unlikely.

EPL fans have to be happy with United going balls-out with the galactico act. I'm really looking forward to seeing them.

Thumbs down to the international break this early in the season. No reason for the World Cup players to show up for these friendlies imo.

1 v 2 top of the table game at the Bridge when it starts up again in two weeks.

Agree on Cech. Overall, brilliant transfer window for Chelsea. With the Remy signing and the Torres departure, weve now strengthened every part of the team. And we didnt spend frivolously.

I kind of missed this but this was in the preview of the Galaxy Chivas game from the MLS site yesterday. That certainly sounds like Chivas (in this incarnation) will not be around next season. The sooner the better.

"What is billed as the last SuperClásico kicks off Sunday afternoon at StubHub Center when Chivas USA entertain their in-house rivals, the LA Galaxy."

I don't see why not - the other big clubs who also have top strikers were after him.
Most other top clubs don't have a midfield and defense you could walk through.... ;)
<_<

:lmao:

Well, now I'm reading or seeing what Native was talking about with RvP and a possible surgery. Either way, Welbeck is most likely leaving and Chicharito is gone so that leaves just Rooney and RvP as forward options. I'm hoping for Carvalho and a miracle on a quality CB and then I think I'll be happy. :)
