BREAKING NEWS: Hearing whispers of Ron Vlaar heading to Man United. Unconfirmed as of yet. #MUFC
That one wouldn't surprise me at all. LvG seems determined to stick with 3-5-2 so getting a defender who has some experience with it makes sense. Not to mention - holy #### has Evans been horrible. I actually thought he played pretty well last year but he seems completely out of his depth in a 3-5-2 (as do most of the CBs that have played so far).

At this point, I'd settle for Arsenal getting Cameron. Anything to address CB and DM. The BFG has looked shaky as hell. Koscielny is made of glass. Flamini looks on track to get 20 appearances, which is about 15 too many.

While I agree with you to a certain point, this is another bandaid over a broken arm. They missed out on de Vrij and Martins Indi, who combined would have cost less than Rojo!

That's two proven 352 players, who know the coach and are right about the same level as Rojo while being younger.

This window will appease most of the fans, but this is setting up to be epic when they miss out on top 4 this season.

I'm more than willing to admit that they've overpaid and right now have some mismatched parts - no doubt. However, you can't have it both ways. Everyone save a few United fans have been saying they needed a major overhaul and an infusion of talent. Well, that's exactly what they are doing. You can't convince me that basically every club in the world wouldn't want ADM and Falcao. Just imagine they did this during the offseason after SAF left - the story would be reloading and not panic buys. And I don't give two ####s about the money as the Glazers have been lining their pockets and living off SAF's legacy.

I have no problem with the spending. Its the whining and moaning when other teams spent big to break into the upper echelons of the league. Thats exactly what United is doing now. YOU guys cant have it both ways. :grad:

Agreed, especially with the bolded. If they didn't line their pockets so much and gave Fergie more scratch, they'd be in better shape.

Also, it's not just about buying big names and throwing a team together. We know that doesn't work, see Mata. The Falcao deal makes the most sense if the RVP rumours are true, it's a good get.

Agree on Mata but I'm hopeful he'll find his way. There's not a player in the side who's played well - they all look lost. I'm willing to hive LvG time to turn it around though. It's a long season and United only have the Arsene Memorial 4th place trophy to play for.

According to the Telegraph, Falcao's wages will be £346,000 per week. Inland Revenue is happy to welcome him to the UK.
:lmao:

:Panic:
That's the real story here - United are panic buying all over the place, but if you panic buy at a high enough price people compliment it as ambitious.

Falcao has never played in the PL and is coming off of a major knee injury, and they're paying that. That's insanity.

With all the incredible soccer channel/agreements I've been able to watch every minute of basically all their matches for the last 8 years - now is the time to panic!

Breaking: Fabio Borini to QPR is off! [bBC]

BREAKING!!!
Payback for Remy, obv.
:lmao:

QPR sells Sterling to Liverpool for 800K

Liverpool sells Borini to QPR for £12M

Can QPR stay in the PL permanently, please?
This is how Borini's transfer negotiations with Rodgers have gone.
Looks like Borini torpedoed this

Joseph Musker @Musker_LFC

Fabio Borini currently earns £30,000 a week. Fee of £13m agreed between QPR and LFC, but he's looking to treble his wages. Poorly advised.

I'm not just bashing on United here. I thought they should have been far more aggressive a year ago in the transfer market, and Moyes' biggest mistakt was being too deferential and failing to seize hold of the team and remake it the way he wanted to.

Van Gaal gets that part, but the amount they're paying for who they're buying, and also who they're NOT buying are the real stories here. No bona fide CB's, and only Herrera in the central midfield. Those were their biggest areas of need. They're just throwing money around and while some of the guys they're buying are first class (Di Maria) others are merely decent/useful (Herrera; Rojo; Blind) while others would seem to represent big risks for the money (Falcao; Shaw?). They're kind of all over the place and I think they're in greater danger of still finishing outside of the top 4 than is being discussed right now.

And they say Balotelli is delusional.

Blind is a CM.
So they're saying, but he normally plays on the left. We'll see.
What do you mean by "normally?" He was a #6 as a youth player. He played LB for 18 months for Ajax. He then spent his last season with Ajax playing pretty much exactly the way that Gerrard plays now for Liverpool. A ball playing CDM who drops between the center backs defensively. Then he played, for the first time, wing back for the Dutch until De Jong got hurt (when THEY moved him to CDM and started Kuyt as LWB).

This is hardly a case of LVG buying a square peg for a round hole.

Falcao Rooney

Mata

Fatty Herrera Blind Di Maria

Rojo Vlaar Jones

That's not a very good side for 250M
Di Maria's wasted out wide - he should be played as the 10. But that means that Mata's on the bench. This is one reason why all of this buying is so strange.

Is Blind a CM or a Fullback?
He's played both, but De Boer moved him to CM for the 2013/2014 season, earning him the nickname "the Dutch Lahm." He's almost certainly a CM for Man U. My guess is that Man U plays a narrow 4-4-2 diamond that looks something like this as a first choice side.

Falcao Rooney

Mata

Herrera DiMaria

Blind

Shaw Rojo Jones/Vlar Valencia/Smalling/Rafael

Looks like Arsenal is getting Welbeck. I'm not sure how I feel about yet another guy who's kind of wing/CF hybrid, but I think he's a better player than many give him credit for. Downgrade Joel Campbell.

He's a striker who was played out wide more than a wing/striker hybrid; wing is his secondary position. Arsenal would play him in his natural position.

A lot of United followers seem to think that he could be another Sturridge if given the chance, and he'll certainly have a midfield behind him that can lay passes in for him. Also, Arsenal needs its forwards to make runs, and Wellbeck's good off the ball.

We'll see, but I like the move.

I also cant fit the current pieces in a 3-5-2 though the backline seems to make more sense. It can work if:

1. Di Maria and Rooney flank Falcao (who replaces injured RVP)

2. Mata plays behind the attackers

3. Blind plays the CM role and Herrera joins him in in a deeper lying role

Falcao

Rooney Di Maria

Mata

Herrera Blind

Shaw Vlar Jones Rojo

I can't believe that wage number - almost certainly false.

@JamesHorncastle: So many clubs' transfer windows are like when Balotelli went out to get an ironing board for his mum + came back with quad bike + trampoline

Any United fan that was sincerely whining and moaning was being a hypocrite and not worthy of discussion - they been the biggest culprit over the years, no doubt.

What about the guys ManU is losing? Javier Hernandez? Is he a slouch? Welbeck no good?
Hernandez is no slouch, I think he's in the top 3-4 for minutes per goal in his time in the EPL.

Welbeck I'm indifferent on..he seems to have everything except the finishing. He's making a move about the same age Sturridge did, so you never know. He could be the one that clinches 4th for Arsenal while sticking it to United in 5th
