If a US coach ever says this, I want him dead. I want his family dead. I want his house burned to the... ground.

"I don't think we did a good enough job of keeping the ball and making them work to get it," Canadian coach Stephen Hart said. "They were throwing numbers forward and we just couldn't get a hold of the ball for any period of time. Unfortunately, what happened, happened."

Samuel Eto'o has dropped a bombshell on Inter Milan: I fancy a Premier League move. The Cameroon ace's declaration comes just 24 hours after it emerged coach Leonardo is set to leave Inter for PSG.Eto'o told Corriere dello Sport: "I'm evaluating some suggestions: I have a month to decide whether to stay or choose the Premier League."I'm 30 so I will have to consider well before the last real contract. I won the gamble to be able to play in Italy and in my mind the time to play in England is now approaching."Eto'o's sensational comments are sure to spark a mad rush for his signature.Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all sure to be keen to take the Cameroon international to England this summer, while Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will also be on red alert. For his part, Eto'o has confessed a great admiration for the work of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
I'm hoping Man City or Arsenal. My favorite player outside of Barca.

Considering it didn't really work out at Barca, would a similar, possession-style team like Arsenal be a bad fit? Chelsea or City seem more similar in style to Inter... for that matter United too, although I doubt they'd shell out that kind of coin for him.

Anyone know anything about the USL? I JUST found out yesterday that apparently, there's a soccer team in Orlando, although you'd never know it. I've never seen one ad, one billboard, not even a flyer in the mail about it until yesterday. Apparently, though, they have home games coming up against Seville FC of Puerto Rico, and Bolton & Newcastle. Wondering if it's worth the trek to attend one of these.

A chance to see an EPL team in a small stadium... probably for a decent price too? Unless you don't like the sport, yes- it's worth a trek. You didn't say how LONG a trek though.fwiw- the USL makes up a bunch of lower division leagues (below MLS)... I don't know much about the leagues, and they seem to be shifting a bunch. But the teams in teh top USL league are pretty much MLS caliber, minus the higher dollar players. Seattle, Portland, Vancouver all played in them as well as next year's Montreal. Puerto Rico usually has a good team, as does Rochester NY and some team or another in the Carolinas.

Weird article, since Budweiser is not a company, and since Anheuser-Busch was acquired by Belgian brewing company InBev in 2008. So this is really a European company trying to build brand equity in one of its products in England.

The USL is a third division level, not second division (Floppo, you may have forgotten about the NASL which is the second division now). The player quality in the current USL is not even close to the MLS reserve leagues. It would be best termed a super semi pro league at this juncture. It is significantly different than a few years ago.Grin, if you follow baseball, the USL team is some where between single A and double A to give you an idea of it's level. If you love soccer, it might be worth a trip, like Floppo said, depending on cost and distance. But be warned you are likely to not see the A squad from either Bolton or Newcastle as they may play deep into their roster when playing such a lower division side like this.

As for its marketing budget, it is beyond microscopic. The current USL teams have no ambitions to grow into something bigger like Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver did. Montreal moved away from USL and into NASL with the knowledge it was going to be making the leap.

You can read more on the USL pro division here (note that USL is an umbrella league consisting of many sub leagues, one of which is USL Pro). http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/

Looks like the Orlando team will be playing Charelston in the next round of the US Open Cup.Just learned yesterday that Charleston will be hosting Portsmouth FC next month.

"Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey will be major keys to the U.S. national team's chances of beating Jamaica in Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals, but both will be missing preparations for that match to attend family weddings.

As first reported by the Washington Post, Donovan and Dempsey will be traveling to California and Texas respectively to attend weddings for their sisters. Both players will miss Friday and Saturday training sessions, though only the Friday session is considered an intense training session."

Really not a big deal, but I'm amazed at the timing. Wouldn't the respective sisters be at least somewhat aware of the club/national team schedules? Two weeks earlier or two weeks later and it's no issue at all. Or was the conversation along the lines of, "It's just the Gold Cup; don't worry about it."

Hopefully Dempsey doesn't whiff on his speech.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. I know talking a bride out of her wedding date isn't an easy task, but they probably should have given it some thought.

Montserrat goes down 5-2 in front of a "home" crowd of 150. :(http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1453094/Does anyone have a link to how the WC qualifying works? 632 games is pretty intense.
I remember last qualifying go-around, when the US played Barbados in the second round (which was the US' first match, Barbados had to win a two-legged tie to get there), Barbados held open tryouts for the national team in the weeks leading up to the match. I always wonder how I'd fare in an open tryout for a team like that...it'd be hilarious to go out for the team.Dempsey promptly scored in the 1st minute of the match, US went on to win 8-0 and won the overall aggregate 9-0 while fielding a C team in the 2nd leg :lmao: .

I'm pretty sure we could all play for Pitcairn Islands. :lmao:

Yeah not really a big deal. With Landon and Dempsey already having played so many minutes the last three games they were likely to sit out the intense training anyway. Only issue would be if Bradley is going to change tactics.............<stop laughing >

Tickets to the quarter final double header at RFK were only about 10k a few days ago. They have broken through 40k today. Lots of ELS fans. Hope the stadium won't be too sparse for the US game. I don't think it will be.

Capacity at RFK is only 46k these days so should be a sellout.

More on the Dempsey Donovan situation regarding the plane flights and priorities

============================

The U.S. Soccer Federation has arranged private flights for Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey to rejoin the national team in Washington ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal against Jamaica on Sunday afternoon at RFK Stadium, the USSF said Thursday.

The unusual arrangement was necessitated by family weddings that they were given permission to attend Saturday. Donovan will fly from California, Dempsey from Texas. The star duo was given permission by Coach Bob Bradley well before the tournament got underway.

Asked about their absence in the build-up to a crucial match, Bradley said: “We’re not concerned. When you are into a tournament like this, the days after a hard game are also regeneration days. Much of our preparation work has been done.”

Bradley said he wasn’t sure when the players would arrive, though with private jets transporting them, both seem likely to land Saturday night. A commercial flight might have forced Donovan to take a red-eye, delaying his arrival until Sunday morning.

Bradley was put into a difficult situation with the requests. On one hand, he respects the players’ personal lives. On the other hand, he must keep the team in his best interests.

Had the weddings conflicted with a match, Bradley wouldn’t have granted permission.

“As a coach, you sometimes have to make difficult decisions,” he said. “Certainly we’ve also respected what family means to players. In these cases, after speaking to the two players, these are important days for them and their family. So you weigh that against the team and you balance it out and make those decisions.”

U.S. players said they appreciate the situation.

“Chemistry is important, it’s still here, I know there isn’t any dissention in the group,” goalkeeper Tim Howard said. “Life’s funny, man. There are all types of things that make the world go round: Your family is important obviously, this team is a family, so we’re all here for one another. They’ll be here and I’m certain they’ll be ready. If they’re not, Coach will make the decision, but I’m certain they will be.”

Meantime, only nine players practiced at the RFK training grounds while the remainder of the squad did fitness work at the team hotel in Arlington. The players werre Howard, Alejandro Bedoya, Tim Ream, Jonathan Spector, Sacha Kljestan, Robbie Rogers, Freddy Adu, Michael Bradley and Juan Agudelo. D.C. United rookie goalkeeper Joe Willis was invited to fill out the group.

United’s Charlie Davies, whose national team career was derailed by a car accident in October 2009, stopped by to watch. He and Bradley embraced and chatted for a few moments.

Trivia:Name the US stadium that the US National team has played the most times in.
RFK?
That was my guess too. They are #2 on the list.
Rose Bowl?
Rose Bowl is 4th on list.
Foxboro?
Foxboro suffers from the fact that it was two stadiums over time, else it would be high on the list. The trivia relates to specifically one stadium.

If/when Landon takes the field against Jamaica he will tie Jeff Agoos for second place on the all time capped list for the US

If/when Dempsey scores his next goal for the US he will tie Bruce Murray for 5th place on the all time US scoring list.

By the way, for those interested in the US future, I give 50-50 odds that one player from the U17 team will be on the WC2014 roster should US qualify

75% chance that 3 or more players will be on 2018 roster.

Sounds like Scotland is sniffing around one of our U-17s (McBean)
Here is the white hot poker. Shall I bend over or would you rather just thrust it into my eye ball?

Interesting stat read from a ussoccer.com blog.

Bradley had the assist to Jozy against Guad.

Bradley has 56 caps.

That was his very first assist ever for the US team.

I am sure there are a ton of reasons why but he also has 8 goals for the US. You think he would have lucked into one before this considering the massive amount of minutes he played in those 53 caps.
