First things first for Canada - they need to start becoming a semi-regular hex participant again. I dont think theyve been there since the 1998 WC cycle but I could be mistaken. The good news is I think this year is the best chance Canada has had for a long time to make it back to the hex. They're grouped with Honduras, Cuba and Panama this summer. I think they can finish top 2 in that group.
Full credit to them if they do. Honduras and Panama will be tough to top, IMO.I'm still remembering a Gold CUp game between the US and Canada that saw the US get extremely lucky to pull out the result- I think it was the Gold Cup semis that eventually put the US in S Africa? Andy? I also remember getting crushed by the u17 and then u19 British Columbia team against my NCal squad. They were huge, fit and very technically good. Teutonic-lite.

Ream gets the start again for Bolton and assisted on the first goal today with a cross from the edge of the box.
What did you think of Ream today?I watched part of the game- thought he looked decent going forward, and positioned himself well defensively (is he playing as a MF sweeper/holding MF?), but is still too easily beat off the run, in the air and off the dribble. Great assist though- the goal-scorer was wide open, but Ream did a good job finding him. over a couple of other players.
I did not get to see much of the game.

Yes the US beat Canada 2-1 that year (2007) in the semis. Then the US beat Mexico in the final to advance to the Confederations Cup in 2009.

iirc, canada got screwed out of a goal or obvious pk.but oh- benny.

Gotta be honest: The standard def on cable's Direct Kick is kind of a bummer.
I am watching on MLS live right now. Let me check my Direct TV feed and see if it is in HD.
Direct Tv has both a SD and a HD feed for all the games today. The HD feed for the Montreal Vancouver game is flawless.
I know DTV has HD, wish cable did too
It's like this on all of the sports packages. DTV has all games in HD on NBA League Pass whereas Time Warner only has one HD station, and they don't put any kind of thought into which game to put on the HD channel. It's usually just the first game of the night. It's so frustrating.

No mention of Everton over Spurs?

Slap it high.

I didnt get to see the game but it wa a great win. Only a couple points behind Liverpool now. If we can't play in the post season, I'll take a finish over Liverpool as a consolation prize.

And they can overtake Liverpool Tuesday. As far as today's game goes I was torn. I like to see Everton do well because of the US connection. But Spurs also have a Yank and they pose the best shot to keep Arsenal or Chelsea out of the CL.

Hard to believe, but if Arsenal can beat Newcastle on Monday, they'll be just 1 point behind Spurs for 4th and 8 points clear of Newcastle in the race for the Europa League 5th place.

Of course, if they lose, Newcastle will be within 2 and Arsenal will still be 4 points adrift of Spurs.

Spurs are in 3rd, and Chelsea would be in 5th.Liverpool is having a post League Cup hangover as well. Only one point above Everton.

Sorry, that should have said 1 point behind Spurs for 3rd. Arsenal would be in 4th, 8 points clear of Newcastle in 6th, where 5th place qualifies for Europa League.

With approx. 10 games left, it could come down to a good three-way race for two Champions League spots - among Spurs, Gunners and Chelsea. Chelsea and Spurs are still alive in the FA Cup, but that probably won't spread them too terribly thin (and Chelsea still has an outside shot at advancing in the CL). United and City are also going down to the wire for the title, and there will likely be some huge games in the relegation zone down the stretch. Who needs playoffs?

I think the key is to have as many teams involved in important games as possible in the final 3rd of the season for any sport to maintain maximum interest.Europe does this with a mixture of promotion/relegation and qualifying for Europe. In the US we do it with a combination of making the playoffs and seeing where teams end up in the draft. Not sure one system is better than the other, but both do their jobs, some years better than others.

Looking forward to NBC Sports Network first game today. FC Dallas is hosting NY in which should be a packed house (Dallas was selling Standing Room Only tickets yesterday).

I am looking forward to Arlo White's first debut to a national audience. He earned this spot after calling Seattle's games locally the past few years.

He looks to be calling the game alone in the booth, but there will be a sideline type reporter (between the benches like NBC does for the NHL), and that will be Kyle Martino who comes over to NBC from Fox Soccer Channel.

Game starts at 3:00pm eastern on NBC Sports Network.

Granted it's only a few minutes in but I can already see why they hired Arlo White, he is excellent. Reading your post I wasn't really sure how it'd work with Martino on the sidelines but it's pretty seamless so far. Did NBC get the rights to any USMNT games?

I agree, you can't really tell the two are seperated. I think White is the best announcer in the country for the sport. I like him more than Darke. NBC will be showing 4 USMNT games per year for the next three years.

Good to see Shea being mobile and attacking with the ball. Haven't seen this since he went in his bunker some time in the second half of last season.

Wow. Henry really should have scored that. What a rare play. Not sure I have ever seen that.

White said he did it once for Arsenal. I may have to try and find that on YouTube.
