I don't care if it's super gay... Diego Forlán is ripped: http://www.as.com/futbol/fotogaleria/liver...dasdasftb_1/Zes
It's OK. A page back when Zanetti was being discussed... I thought about was his hair. The man has awesome hair on his head. 90 minutes of running, tackling, being an icon, etc.. and he looks like he just got styled at Vidal Sasoon for a 10k cut. The hair is amazing!Anyone that says his cut is not #1 in the world of football has hidden issues. It's OK to admire hair and not be ####, right?

ETA: Can you say gay and not ####?
:loco: plz

If I try to caption Firefox crashes foe some reason. I'm sure it is the power of the hair.

LOL! I thought I was the only closet admirer of this. It helps understand why the Italians love him so. I mean just LOOK AT IT! It's a miracle of modern hair science

Lots of interesting information in here about Bradley s thoughts of the US roster.

I will warn people that its a pretty depressing read considering all of the unknowns. I was so hopeful during the draw but seeing the gaping holes in the lineup still, I fear that getting out of the group is going to be much more difficult that many people are willing to admit.

=====================

NEW YORK -- U.S. coach Bob Bradley is uncertain whether Charlie Davis will recover enough from severe injuries sustained in a car crash last fall to earn an invitation for the Americans' pre-World Cup training camp next month.

Davies resumed full training this week with his French club, Sochaux, for the first time since an Oct. 13 accident in Virginia, The crash left the 23-year-old forward with two broken bones in his right leg, a broken and dislocated left elbow, a broken nose, forehead and eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on the brain.

"I think the fact that Charlie is that far along is great, but certainly even within the framework of being back in training, let's face it, there's different levels there," Bradley said Thursday at Major League Soccer's office.

Bradley will announce his 30-man preliminary roster on May 11 and expects to call in 26-28 players for a training camp at Princeton, N.J., that opens four days later. He said only 16-18 spots likely are set.

By the time the U.S. leaves for South Africa on May 30, following exhibition games against the Czech Republic (May 25 at East Hartford, Conn.) and Turkey (May 29 at Philadelphia), he will have picked a final 23-man roster, which is due to FIFA by June 1. He can make substitutions up until 24 hours before his team's World Cup opener against England on June 12.

Bradley said his fitness coach, Pierre Barrieu, speaks with Sochaux about Davies every week. National team head athletic trainer Ivan Pierra was in Europe and will visit Davies in several days for a personal update. Bradley realizes making the World Cup has been a major motivation in Davies' rehabilitation.

AC Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu is another injury concern. He hasn't played since tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee during a World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica on Oct. 15.

AC Milan said Thursday he has been alternating training on his own and with the team but still wasn't ready to play. Even before getting hurt, Onyewu appeared in just one of 10 competitive matches for AC Milan, entering as a 60th-minute substitute in a Champions League match against Zurich on Sept. 30.

"Our expectation is that it may be hard for him at the end of the year to get back into the team there, play games, but certainly good news just in terms of regular training," Bradley said.

Bradley said Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones, sidelined with a shin injury all season, had almost run out of time to get healthy.

"If it's not going to happen for the summer, he may need to have another surgical procedure that would then get him back in time for the start of the season next year," Bradley said. "We're at that sort of cross in the road. We'll know in the next week whether there's any hope."

Bradley also is monitoring forward Brian Ching, who still has not resumed full training after injuring his left hamstring during Houston's home opener April 1.

"Again, a guy that in the next two weeks we have to assess," the coach said.

Bradley said Glasgow Rangers midfielder DaMarcus Beasley, a veteran of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, was "on the radar screen" for the training camp, but "there are still clearly some questions."

"DaMarcus has been tricky in this last year," Bradley added. "He had some very good games in December, got back into the team and I think did well. And since then it's been up and down, more down certainly of late."

Bradley said there could be a hidden reason for Beasley's lack of playing time.

"It may be a factor of late that his contract is up at the end of the year," he said.

Midfielder Stuart Holden, who broke his right leg in a March 3 exhibition loss at the Netherlands, is close to resuming full training. Bolton manager Owen Coyle has said Holden may not be ready by his club's Premier League finale against Birmingham on May 9.

Bradley said players will be allowed to compete in club matches on May 15-16 before reporting to training camp. He said Los Angeles forward Edson Buddle and Puebla forward Herculez Gomez have put themselves in contention with outstanding seasons.

Buddle, who has scored all seven Galaxy goals during a 4-0-1 start, was selected MLS's player of the month for April on Thursday. He made his only national team appearance as an 80th-minute substitute against Venezuela in 2003.

"The easy thing to see so far this year is that he scored some incredible goals," Bradley said. "That actually fits if you look back over Edson's career. As a young striker in the league, his talent came through based upon his ability at times to score some great goals -- a variety of goals, goals from outside the box, goals where he dribbled, goals with his head. I think that part is not new, but that's been there of late.

"And quickly I think there has been a lot of maturing that has taken place, so in less obvious ways he seems to be doing a lot of little things on the field that make a difference for his team."

Gomez, like Buddle 28, became the first American to gain a share of the Mexican scoring lead, getting 10 goals for Puebla. He made his only national team appearances under Bradley in the 2007 Copa America, two years after he combined with Landon Donovan to help the Galaxy win the MLS title.

"He came into the scene in LA and what you would say is everything he touched went into the net -- his pure ability to strike a ball was pretty obvious. And I think that that's kind of come back again a little bit at Puebla," Bradley said.

Bradley wouldn't say whether Marcus Hahnemann or Brad Guzan is his No. 2 goalkeeper behind Tim Howard, but referred to 37-year-old Hahnemann's strong second half of the season for Wolverhampton and discussed the potential of the 25-year-old Guzan.

He said Maurice Edu, in addition to midfield, could be used as a central defender, and that captain Carlos Bocanegra, Jonathan Spector, Jonathan Bornstein and Heath Pearce all were options at left back.

At the Niketown store Thursday, Bradley helped unveil the U.S. home World Cup jersey -- white with an off-white sash that echoes the jersey from the 1950 World Cup, when the Americans upset England. Each jersey is constructed from eight recycled bottles.

Bradley said that when the U.S. plays England in Rustenburg, stopping Rooney is a key.

"He's been in incredible form. He's been slowed down a little bit of late with injuries, but there's the starting point of things," Bradley said.

One interesting tid bit is thinking about Edu as a central back. He seems to have the requisite skills and body type and a nice pair of feet which never hurts.

Obviously this is not the time to be experimenting but might be an interesting choice in the run up to 2014.

Wow - this is certainly surprising, probably deserves it's own thread even...

Aguero headed to Chelsea

Atletico Madrid's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero has already agreed a £40 million summer transfer move to Chelsea, according to ESPNsoccernet sources.

(details pending)
I'll believe it when the ink is dry, and then I probably won't be too happy about it at that price. I've only seen him play a few times and am not confident he'll be successful in the prem - too small and weak.
I think he'll be tremendous for Chelsea. I wonder where they will play him though.
I sure hope this is a good signing for that insane amount of money. I think this will almost certainly be the most Chelsea has ever paid for a player, and will be their first major signing in several years. I'm happy to read Z's opinion that he has some strength because my impression was that he is very small and skinny. Maybe he can play a bit more like Tevez, who is also short but seems a bit more stocky, rather that what we are used to with Drogba dominating with his size and strength. I'm also a bit disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing Sturridge and Kakuta progressing for Chelsea. I expect Aguero will be worked in as part of a three man rotation at striker and would think it will take him a year or two to become accustomed to the EPL.In any event, a huge game this weekend and the possibility of two trophies this season before we start worrying about the off-season transfers.

I think Arguero is small and will struggle in the EPL for awhile. He's maybe 5'7" and even if he is strong compared to La Liga defenders, England is a bigger league all around - for comparison's sake, Rooney is 5'10" and often looks dwarfed by the central defenders he goes against. That said, I do believe he is a very good fit for Chelsea, maybe one of the few EPL teams that he would fit in well with. I don't know the contract situation with Anelka, but it's been month's since he's last scored, and not sure how well he is fitting into their scheme any more. With Drogba a great option at the top, a secondary, fast, skilled striker is great for run offs and a secondary attack.

I'm a pretty big Sturridge fan too, but it's obvious his game is not ready for the highest level just yet. Perhaps a transfer to get some confidence will help.

Agreed. Game this weekend will be tough and crowd will be hostile as usual.

I hate to say this... but my wife is in Mexico and can pick up some packs and albums if people are interested.I can have her ship a box of them to me, and then I can mail them out to you.I'll limit this to the first 3 people that reply to this post.I make no promises though, as I'll have to convince her to do this work for me. I think she will... good thing I married a South American who understands the importance of la copa.So far I have:Señor Schmutzigguru_007PIK95<CLOSED>
Update? Did you get your wife to agree? :lmao:

It has been confirmed that Devann Yao will not be offered a contract extension at Ipswich. Hopefully he gets picked up somewhere.

Reports were that he is very talented, but very raw. He played in 3 or 4 reserve matches in the last few months. Right or left winger.

Ok watching the 2nd half now and I can't help it but every time the announcer says Zoltan Gera's name I can't help myself but do this (with the little hand Z and everything). Gf hasn't seen DWMC so she just thinks I'm a huge dork. Now I know the next movie we're renting though.

Yeah. She agreed. They'll be "imported" in her luggage. You guys will get 125 packs with 5 stickers each or 625 stickers total plus the sticker album. After y'all open your packs we can have a trading session for the doubles. When it's all done, I'll give you guys her email address so you can send a nice e-card as a thank you.

BTW, if Atlético can get 40mGBP for Kun, I just might think it's worth letting him go.
I agree - and they should spend that money on defenders. Only 5 teams in La Liga have conceded more goals at this point in the season.Tis the season for rumors about strikers:

Villa to Barcelona?
Good god yes. I think two 15mGBP (about 20m€, right?) defenders would be a nice addition. A right back and a center back.Thing is, Atlético wouldn't be scoring as many goals as there's no one with 1/2 the talent as el Kun. They should spend 30mGBP on defenders and then the other 10mGBP on another striker.

BTW, I don't think he's a great fit for the EPL though, as I do think he's a bit on the small side. Torres was a much better fit.

And finally on that note, how sad will it be that Atlético will have sold 2 of the best young strikers in Europe in a span of 3 years.

Anyone watch Birmingham/Burley this morning? I'm watching a DVR of it now, but I thought the ESPN studio show at the beginning was pretty classic.Something along these lines:

Hello, and thanks for joining us for Birmingham City and Burnley. If you're watching this, you truly are a diehard, and we appreciate you joining us today.

Barcelona wins what could have been a tricky match away at Villarreal, 4-1. Messi with 2, Xavi with a goal and 2 assists. Would be nice if Madrid would draw or worse tomorrow to give the Blaugrana a little breathing room.

Someone besides Edson Buddle finally scores for the Galaxy...but he gets a brace of his own (and assisted on the other) as the Galaxy handle Philly, 3-1. That's 9 goals so far for Buddle.

Bayern win yesterday 3-1 and Schalke lost 2-0. This puts Bayern up by 3 points with one gameday left. With a +17 better goal differential this assures Bayern of their 22nd league title.

Didnt see this anywhere but Eddie Johnson scored two goals for Aris vs Olympiakos in the Euro playoff for next season. Freddy assisted on one of the goals and drew a penalty. Both of these guys have played well in Greece the last few months and may well get a shot in South Africa - especially with all the injuries. Nice footage of the highlights below.

At this point it would be impossible to complain about him getting a chance with the Nats. He is having perhaps the greatest start to an MLS season that any player has had in 15 years. When some one earns a shot, you just have to sit back and say "good job" and hope for the best.

I've only watched two of those games this year, but he is a handful for opposing defenses. Good combo of size, speed, touch and game sense.IMO, he's definitely shown enough of the abilities required to at least earn a shot (very similar to Eddie Johnson last go-round)- and is one of the most in-form players on the planet right now (not saying he's anywhere near the best by a long shot, but outside of Messi, is anybody else scoring goals like Buddle?). Plus, one of his biggest advantages is that he plays alongside LD- can't underestimate the importance of that built-in on the field relationship... for both players.

I still wonder with Buddle- can he and Jozy combine well?

From the limited amount I've seen of Edson, he plays a simlar style to Jozy- not a true post-up target guy who sticks to the last defender as much as possible to win the balls deep in the opposition's half. And not a true slashing forward who makes the diagonal runs for through balls from the MF or plays off the target forward.

Might be a good thing to have two of those types of forwards, as long as they can play off each other... dunno.

StarMetros beat United in DC!

From ESPN:

WASHINGTON(AP) -- Juan Pablo Angel had a goal and an assist and the New York Red Bulls improved on their best start in franchise history by beating D.C. United 2-0 on Saturday.

Salou Ibrahim also scored for the Red Bulls (5-1-0), who won at RFK Stadium for the first time since 2005. New York had been 0-2-5 in seven previous meetings there.

United (0-5-0) is off to its worst start. D.C. was winless in its first four games in 1996, the MLS inaugural season.

Ibrahim beat defender Juan Manuel Pena to Dane Richards' low cross to score in the 51st minute, side-footing a second effort past goalkeeper Troy Perkins. Angel started the sequence with a pass to Richards on the right.

Nine minutes later, Angel reached Joel Lindpere's long free kick, and nodded it inside the left post.
I think this is a factor of them not having played the best teams yet, but I'll take it.Still bothered that the NYTimes doesn't have somebody cover their games. :goodposting: They use AP.

Just imagine if we had Rossi...
He's as american as Bok Choy. I mean, the kid was only born here and spent a scant 13 years in the States. Sure it's over half his life, but from what I understand, he doesn't even speak english.
I was just kidding, of course. But I think with his skillset, he'd pair very, very well with Jozy, and we wouldn't be having these "who's going to play striker???" conversations.

And my Atleti again decide not to give a #### about la liga. They gave up an easy goal on a set piece as the corner passed by two players who just watched it, allowing the Sevilla player to pass it into the net.

Then in the next 20 minutes they give up not one, but two penalty kicks to Sevilla.

Seriously guys, are you trying to lose? This isn't the NFL where the the draft order is determined by reverse order of finish. Show some GD heart here...

If Kun leaves, you best believe that there's going to be some work put into that D. Ugh.

I was kidding too.the US would FAR better off with Rossi on the squad.

THought you were posting this nice Make-a-wish story involving the Sounders (no way an NBA, NFL or MLB team does this, IMO).

Dimitar Berbatov had an absolute abortion of a game today. Blew 3 very easy chances (2 of which i could have made, and i quit soccer when i was 9).

Pretty sure Rooney would have murdered him if they hadn't held on for the 1-0 win.

In the end, it wont matter, because Chelsea will win next week.

whoopdedoo. i think steve tasker, el floppo and a coupe others on this board would probably score in a game against the union. the defense is pathetic. at least seitz looked like a decent goalie last night, though there were still some questionable goals and decisions by him.as for buddle ... he was clearly offsides on goal 3; goal 2 everyone stood around and let him do whatever he wanted. his assist on the first goal rolled across the box so slowly i thought it might stop. i can't believe seitz blew that one. he looked at it and watched it. he should have come out to pick it up.

The RM-Osasuna match was an exciting one that was sure. Loved the bravery Osasuna showed until the end, counterattacking when they could have iced the match, which is more than you can say for certain other squads.

At the half:

Santo André 3

Santos 2

Red Cards 3

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, the beautiful game!

Fairly certain the ship has sailed for both of them. Aris's website sucks but according to it, Eddie Johnson has 18 appearances and Freddy Adu only has 9. We're desperate at Forward so I guess Johnson maybe gets another shot to get called in but he didn't exactly impress his last time out. It really wouldn't surprise me if neither are even called for camp with guys like Buddle and Gomez playing so well. Sort of a devil you don't know over the one you do. Bradley didn't sound like there were a lot of spots up for grabs the other day.

This Wednesday looks to be one of the matches of the season in England. Man. City and Tottenham play with the winner gaining control of their destiny to play in the Champions League next season. Currently Spurs are on 67 and City are on 66 with two games each to play. The match will be in Manchester.
