Yeah, if all this settles like it seems it will, it looks like a good day to be a Liverpool fan.
As good as could be expected yesterday. Torres forcing this transfer at the end of the window forcing Liverpool to spend insane, ludacris money for Carroll doesn't make me happy though.
I am happy about it. I think it worked out GREAT for Pool as now there are Champions league hopes (especially if Carroll comes back soon from injury) and they got a guy they NEVER would have had a shot at come summer imo for fair value. They got Suarez, Carroll, and maybe Charlie Adams for Whores and some $$. Great day. Still wondering about Insua?
They're still closer to mid-table than top five.

I disagree with you for the first time ever I think. No freakin way. It will be tough but I now expect a #3-6 place finish.

#6 maybe but that's not where the money is. LFC is currently 6 points behind #5 Spurs and 9 points behind #4 Chelsea. Both London clubs also have a game in hand. Chelsea strengthened themselves as much as Liverpool did this month. Spurs are having some injury problems but have definitely been the stronger side so far.Liverpool didn't do anything to address their defensive issues, although Carragher's return should help. They have a completely new (and half healthy) strike force and a guy in Adam who has to adjust from being the man. And they gave up a guy who's probably the most talented of the three forwards making the moves.

#3?!? Just checking, but do you mean this season or next? I still think Pool will be fighting tooth and nail to the bitter end for Europa this year.

Right now...............but do you think Torres' value is going to go up or down? Do you think Carroll's is going to go up or down. There's your answer as to why Liverpool is excited.

This may be a fantastic move by Liverpool. But it could go either way. It's not like Torres is 30. It's possible Torres outplays Carroll over the remainder of their careers.

Well, I think Torres is a pretty sure bet to end his career with more World Cup winners' medals

It's definitely possible, but with injuries and being out of form, I just feel it's unlikely.

US v Egypt cancelled

The U.S. Soccer Federation has announced that the match between the U.S. Men's National Team and Egypt has been canceled due to the current conditions in the country. The teams were scheduled to meet on Feb. 9 in Cairo. After exploring other options, the U.S. has determined it will not play a match on this fixture date.

LOLZ at the EPL craziness going on today.

I never really liked 'pool anyway, so I'm glad Torres is going. But to go to Chelski? Ugh.

Thoughts on Newcastle's season? I was hoping that they'd make a push to the end of the season and make Europa 2 years after being relegated.

Oh, and I'm happy that my Atleti haven't shipped Forlán yet either. Spurs have offered 15m€ for him, but I'm not sure if Atlético will bite.

makes sense. I was hoping for an alternate site. These games while seemingly meaningless to us have to be invaluable to seeing players under certain conditions for the coaching staff.

Looks like no Adam for Liverpool

This was awesome though. From twitter via lfctv: "congratulations to Konchesky who signed for a team with 2 European Cups...how many have Chelsea won?"

Big ESPN news for fans

ESPN has won the English language rights to 2012 and 2016 Euros. This includes a good amount of qualifiers along with intending to show every game of both finals. Note that 2016 expands to 24 teams.

Wahl tweeted that ESPN did not acquire the Copa America rights.

Looks like the Jozy to Turkey rumors are not Jozy to the Second Division. It's Jozy to Bursapor, who is in second place in the top division. Makes more sense.

on ESPN, not sure if this was above as well:

The agent for Freddy Adu says the American forward is being loaned to Rizespor in the Turkish second division.

Adu, whose contract is owned by Portugal's Benfica, had been on trial in January with the German second-division club Ingolstadt.

After playing in Major League Soccer, he joned Benfica in 2007. He made 11 appearances for the Portuguese club and been loaned to France's Monaco, Portugal's Belenenses and Greece's Aris in Greece. In July, Swiss club Sion declined to sign Adu after a week's training, and in November Adu worked out with Denmark's Randers.

The 21-year-old forward, who joined D.C. United when he was 14, was not selected to play for the U.S. at the 2010 World Cup.

How far has Adu fallen?

10.55pm: Well I just can't believe this. Tottenham have entered the race to sign Charlie Adam, they just cannot help themselves!

:goodposting:

Yeah we talked about earlier. He has to wait out his contract expiring this summer and then pray an MLS team will take a chance on him. The only thing going for him is that he is only 21 and may still have a chance to salvage a career

If this goes through and he gets playing time it will be excellent
 Bursaspor is the defending champion and 2nd place this year. They're not a huge club but they have a lot of good young players and have overachieved lately. Could be a great environment for Jozy to develop in.I heard Adu was going to a 2nd division team in Turkey. Amazing how far he's fallen. Seems like it would make more sense just to come back to MLS at this point.

This is so out of control.

It is official. David Luiz has transferred to Chelsea for 25 million pounds. Nemanja Matic is also involved in deal.

Chelsea just spent more money in one day than MLS spent in its first 15 years as a league and likely its next 15 years as a league.

Just mind boggling.

This occured on the same day the club reported a £70.9m loss in the year to June 2010 - despite winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

Edu scored in in Rangers 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Cup semi's.

Rangers will meet Celtic in the Cup Final
very nice strike from Maurice yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-wDhV9KgRk&NR=1
That really is a fantastic goal when you take into account the distance and that he struck it with his off foot.
And a great song by The Specials on the stadium PA to celebrate. Why Bradley ever started Clark over Edu will bother me for all my days.

Are they going to be potentially running afoul of the financial fair play rules? I'm not exactly sure how those work, but I'm pretty sure they frown on teams losing money and at the same time throwing it around like that.

I don't believe those regulations come into effect until 2012/13. The big clubs will figure out some way to cook their books by then.
