Looks like Willian to Spurs is almost done. Apparently Levy got a copy of Football Manager and has found out how much fun it is to buy players.

FIFA 14 is so realistic that if you play carrier mode with Liverpool and makea bid for player that player automatically joins Tottenham

Will need updates on the Arsenal game today from someone who is watching.
2-0 Gunners
I have no real feelings for or against Arsenal (except for David Dein's role in the Franchise FC fiasco) but I'm finding this whole saga very entertaining. Wenger is the perfect pilot for the roller coaster.
As a matter of team cohesion, Wenger's done some of the best managing of his career during the last two years when the team's been backed up against the wall. Ironically, you can argue persuasively that he's created these very crises that he's managed so well. :wall: :loco:

Ivanovic puts Chelsea uo 2-1 in the 70th.

Props to Villa, who are looking tough for the second match in a row against top competition.

79 min: Fenerbahce have given up. A series of after-you-sir challenges down the left as Rosicky and Ramsey burst into life. The garden-party atmosphere continues as Walcott is given enough time to stew a cup of tea and make a couple of rounds of cucumber sandwiches. He fizzes a low daisycutter towards Demirel, who smothers. Hey, mind the lawn!

lol

I'll miss him a lot more than Sir Alex when he's gone.

I don't know how much the guardian pays whoever writes those recaps but whatever it is they should double it.

I think it's a guy with a Vietnamese last name, something like that. He's a Brit, but yeah, it's hilarious.

Very good win for Arsenal, and the score is fully reflective of the way the match went.

Good stuff from Arsenal who made better decisions in the final third in the second half.

Spirited performance from Villa who made life interesting at the Bridge. An enjoyable two screen experience.

Mata and Luiz on the bench. Neither featured much for Chelsea in the preseason either. Injuries have been hinted but never validated.

I'm sure the Daily Mail has them both off to Barca already. I don't think Luiz is even dressed.
So Mata, who is healthy, starts today but then is the first person subbed off in the 65th minute.
He did say that he was getting over thigh tightness. But those AM roles are going to be competitive. Eddie Hazard looks to get the most minutes, but then there are just a lot of really good players. Things might get a little more set after next weekend when the fixture congestion lightens up for a couple of months.

I thought he was weak honestly. He played mostly on the right with Oscar in the 10. I like the idea, but neither of them looked very good. Lucky result really. Villa is in no danger of relegation based on what I saw today.

Lost amidst the injuries, the Arsenal transfer soap opera, and the horrific refereeing this past weekend was that Villa put in a very solid performance for 90 minutes. I think they're a top half team if they stay healthy.

None whatsoever. In fact they were unfortunate not to get an eqaulizer as there was a clear hand ball on Terry in stoppage time that the ref missed.

Agree on Mata looking weak. Mourinho is playing Oscar as the center of the attacking midfield (and he looks great), while Hazard and Mata play wide. While Hazard looks fantastic, Mata lacks the speed to excel in that position. Hes at his best with the ball at his feet with players on either side of him. IMO both De Bruyne last game and Schurlle today (as a sub) looked more dangerous than Mata.

Ba was awful yet again. Cant stay onside and doesnt link up with the MF's (Torres is actually much better in this regard). Lukaku was much more active in his limited time on the field. Id be shocked if Mourinho doesnt push for a new striker in the next week. Dont think Rooney is a serious option, but Etoo is, as is someone like Jackson Martinez from Porto (who Chelsea have strong ties with).

I think the talk of Terry's hand ball is overblown. It hit his arm, but only because a Villa player was tugging on his other arm as he jumped. Villa played with great heart and energy. And Abonglahor was a holy terror for the second game in a row (he tends to wear down because nobody can keep up that pace). Gabby and Benteke also seem to have a better understanding this season, which is bad news for BPL defenses. They can hit a lethal counter out of nowhere.

There are a number of teams than could finish anywhere from 6th to 18th

Kits are at least better than last year's tequila sunrise specials. But Barca is one of those teams where anything but the home kit is jarring.
Meh, you can never go wrong with a primarily white alternative shirt.
Barca wore silver one year but even with the side stripes it was too close to RM colors
True, wasn't thinking about Real's colors but you're right.
Speaking of Real, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Iker yet.

Not a fan of Benzema, he seems waaay too lazy. Di Maria is a player though
He doesn't have the same imperious air of perfect athleticism that Ronaldo does, but he scores goals.

Di Maria makes sense, but I can't see RM giving up their only proven #9. I'm sure Ronaldo would do fine in that role, but who knows how well he'll do?

Don't forget they're getting Bale.

Still, I'm one Gooner who's taking this with a massive grain of salt. Benzema's RM's only striker and Di Maria doesn't really fit an area of need for Arsenal (for example, with Di Maria playing on the right wing, where does Walcott go?).
