They just seem like a selling club. And not the kind of selling club that will squeeze every last penny out of you either.

Lewandowski and Gotze both said they were going to Bayern at the end of their contracts and that was it. Not much leverage at that point. I'd say it was ambitious of Dortmund to keep Lewandowski for an extra year and try to win with him rather than take the payoff.

Almost every club in the world is a selling club. There's like 7 that aren't.

Neither of these was a negotiated sale, Lewa was a free and Bayern triggered Goetze's release clause. Mattias Sammer won titles for BvB as player and manager but was easily lured away when Bayern decided they wanted him. I hear all about the Bundesliga financial stability, 50+1 rule, etc., but BvB would have missed payroll and likely been in bankruptcy just ten years ago without a loan from Bayern. The ugly fact of the Bundesliga is that Bayern gets what Bayern wants, and that's been the case as long as I've been following the league.

 
Porto bought James Rodriquez for approx. €7m in July 2010; Monaco bought him for €45m in July 2013; Real bought him this week for reported €80m. Total transfer fees paid for him in 4 years now just over €132m, which I think puts him second all time for total transfer revenue behind Zlatan (€170m), just ahead of Nicolas Anelka who is now third (€130m).

Tiago re-signs for Atleti on a 2 year contract. His status as 3rd captain is revoked though, as that goes now to Godín. There are rumors that he was betrayed by Mou, who said he'd have a contract with Chelsea this season and a place in the coaching staff with him after that.

Personally, I welcome him back as he's a solid backup and knows the system without costing Atlético any money in transfer fees.

This not even a question. Right now 43-yo Friedel was the primary back-up. Vorm lost his job at Swansea, and now will be a more highly paid backup at Spurs.

Figured as much. Just didnt think that Vorm would accept a backup position without a fight.

 
Vorm does get the potential to start if PSG comes in for Lloris next summer. But this is mostly about having a backup who can play with a high line. Friedel is many things, even at 43, but sweeper keeper is not one of them.

And apparently Ancelotti's going back to a 4-2-3-1 next year. So presumably RM's lineup is going to be something like Lopez; Marcelo, Ramos, Pepe, Carvajal; Alonso, Modric; Ronaldo, Rodriguez, Bale; Benzema. ?

Kroos over Alonso? Kroos would be an expensive substitute but it's not impossible with that squad.

Xabi is suspended for the first couple CL games anyway. In its wisdom, UEFA suspended him for celebrating when his team won UEFA's signature trophy.

 
2.5 weeks after beginning to walk, Young GPJ started kicking a beach ball around the house yesterday. :pickle:

Not much of a left foot as of yet, but he seems to have pretty good control.

 
It's sort of scary how good ball control every little kid (including my pudgy 12 year old step cousin) has in Croatia. God they love soccer there and if I was a good poster I'd give rundowns of the qualifying Europa League matches the Croatian club teams were playing. Alas, I'm not, but they loved Mario moving to Atletico. I think Bayern will miss him more than they think.

BTW, to put some perspective on a stadium sizes compared to MLS teams. Rijeka is starting to build a new state of the art stadium. They are the 3rd-4th biggest club there.. Total size is 21k.
