Which of these guys will never (or, you know, rarely) see the pitch:

GK: L. Fabianski, Julio César
Def: R. Ferdinand, V. Kompany, C. Smalling, T. Vermaelen, M. Sakho
Mid: R. Sterling, Oscar, Willian, S. Gnabry , J. Williams (Crystal Palace)
Fwd: D. Ings, Diego Costa, D. Gayle

I swapped out Gnarby (who I like, but I guess he does not play much) for Richardson on Aston Villa (more Claret and Blue)

I really don't like Willian at 8.0. He's going to be coming in as a sub a lot, I would go with Eriksen or Mirallas instead.

Vermaelen might be good if he gets moved to United. I'd sit on him and see how things play out. In general, the "Teams Selected by %" dropdown is pretty helpful in finding good plays, although I disagree with them sometimes.

Here's mine (for now)

De Gea, Gilks

Filipe Luis, Jones, DeBuchy, Jagielka, Wisdom

Hazard, Eriksen, Mirallas, Sigurdsson, Tiote

Rooney, Lukaku, Dzeko

I should also note that I'm going with a fairly thin squad (3 min-players) because I expect to be using my wildcard around week 5 or 6. At that point I'll probably add more depth to get me through until the winter wildcard in January.

So Sepp Blatter got the brilliant idea to tell an audience that MLS would soon be moving to align with the FIFA calendar. :)

Grant Wahl ✔ @GrantWahl

When MLS prez Abbott was asked about Blatter saying MLS would join FIFA calendar, he got the look of someone asked about their crazy uncle.

===============

A better response would be to ask Blatter if the rest of the world will have to align to MLS in 2022 because of the Qatar lunacy :)

I'm doing a Yahoo! freebie: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/05/join-prosoccertalks-free-yahoo-fantasy-premier-league-group-here/

Feel free to join that one or start up an FBG group there.

Interesting. You get a lot more quality with the official EPL game, I don't think bargain-hunting is as important. I thought your team looked a bit thin to me...

So, was Howard Webb the most recognizable referee in the world? There are only a handful I know by name, but I have not followed as closely an many of you have.

In his time, it was probably Pierluigi Collina. I think he's now the guy who runs the evaluation process for FIFA, but he used to seemingly ref every big game. And he looked like a human corpse, so he was instantly recognizable.

John Terry is unlikely to be an everday starter for Chelsea, even if healthy. Why is he 1 million more than Kompany (who does tend to get dinged, but who is an autostart when healthy). Townsend also seems absurdly over valued to me.

How do you see the Chelsea D rotation working? I assumed Cahill and Terry were locks in the middle with Luis on the left... and Dave/Ivanovic rotating some how on the right.

I have very low expectations for Costa on Chelsa IRL. I expect him to be injured for the entire season.

I think that Ivanovic is likely to get more starts than Terry. They may be split between CB and RB. Ivanovic was one of Chelsea's best players last year. I can't believe that Luis was brought in because they were so upset having Ivanovic at right back that they had to move Dave back. I think it was probably done to be able to play Ivanovic more at CB. But that's just my own impression.

Agree on Ivanovic. He's a good RB, but he can be dominate at CB

This should be a ridiculous tongue in cheek comment. However, it COULD be true. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I think this is most likely correct. I think Ivanovic lead the team in minutes last season, and I expect him to be near the top again this season, splitting between CB and RB. I see Luis' more for when they need someone more adept at overlapping/linking with Hazard on the left, which was a weak spot for Dave. When they want to play defensively, I expect Dave on the left and Ivan on the right may be the preferred lineup. Omerou's expected loan to Boro was confirmed yesterday, Kallas was loaned to Koeln. Zouma looks the part, but has been a bit shaky in the preseason according to reports and a few clips I've seen. I don't think Mourinho will rely on him until he proves himself a bit, maybe in some league cup games or something. But it is highly unlikely that JT finds the fountain of youth again this season.
