Hey Pep- thanks for trotting out the WC stars. You want them to do a meet and greet, or play the last 10 mins of 2-1 game? The latter? Then deal with them getting "touched".

I did not think the tackles were even that bad.
The Alonso challenge was. The other two he chirped at weren't even fouls, IMO, let alone bad tackles.

Very poor form by Pep.
The Alonso one was late but his trailing leg just clipped him. Believe me, if Alonso wanted to crack him with his front leg, he would have. He went as soft as he possibly could go for the type of player he is.

Ozzie's challenge was pretty bad for a friendly. I think that infected Pep's view of the others. Johnson's was a foul, but nothing malicious. Shame that Schweinie got hurt on it.

But a glorious **** move by Pep nonetheless. Highly enjoyable.

To be fair, the choice of playing certain guys is probably written into the contract between the club and MLS. He has always been a vocal opponent of offseason tours...

I don't buy this rumor though (hope I'm wrong). You'd think it'd be really hard to hide something like that, and I'm not seeing any buzz or reports from the usual sources.
Monaco bought him last year for £50m, and they don't need to balance their books after they let James Rodriguez go to Real Madrid for £63m.Monaco is playing CL games again this year, no?
Monaco is more vulnerable to FFP enforcement than any club in Europe.
Hey - Why is that? Because they play in a tiny stadium? Or because they spent money last year like drunken sailors on shore leave?
:goodposting:

They can't sellout games against PSG and it's a terrible atmosphere..yeah, that'll last.
Even if they did sell out the stadium, that's only 18K. Ligue 1 doesn't have huge TV revenues. They don't have a kit sponsor yet which makes their shirt look nice but doesn't help the bottom line.

Unless these guys had it worked out beforehand that the late entering stars were in a no-contact jersey... Pep needed to just shut it and shake some hands.

Then don't cash the check

They're grown men... they can handle themselves.

I didn't think the Alonso tackle was that bad.... not good... but not terrible. The Will Johsnon thing was Pep getting mad that Schweiny's first involvement was getting knocked over after the ball. :violin: :
In a normal game, no, it wasn't bad. In a friendly like this, it was pretty reckless.

It wasn't great. But enough to act like a cry-baby sass-a-frass? I don't see it.

I'm sure the guys in North American Marketing, PR and Promotion were slapping their foreheads watching Pep's performance after the game. "Whiny ### Titty Babies" probably isn't the brand they're going for.

Reports I'm seeing this morning show that Schweinsteiger only has a bruised ankle. That's the good news.

Bayern's attempt to increase their image in the states didn't do so well, thanks Pep.

I agree with what someone said earlier that the first challenge, the worst of them, set Pep's mood. The one against Schweinsteiger was a little late, but didn't merit the outrage shown by Pep. It is a friendly and I think the announcers made a good point about MLS being in mid-season form and the Bayern players in pre-season mode. But, is there really an offseason for these elite players?

Sadly the image most non-Bayern fans (and even Bayern fans) will take from this game is Pep's antics.

I guess I could look this up but I'm lazy and busy...does Bayern roll over their league commonly like they did last year? I was stunned when the announcers said they went 29-2 or something.

What's the thrill for their fans? Just the Champions League?

Bayern are taking the league back, they're only 3-4 years from when they finished 3rd and Dortmound won the league(back to back).

But yeah, it'll be another boring league this season and for the near future.

I started following Bayern in '97. In that time they've won the league eleven times, finished 2nd four times, 3rd twice and 4th once. Last season simply broke all kinds of records. In these 18 years, the years they won the league they finished 1,15,1,16,14,5,10,5,25 and 19 points ahead. One year they won on goal differential.

Th years they didn't win the leage they were behind by 2,2,6,10,2,10 and 8 points.

They are the dominant force in the Bundelsiga, but they have their down years and other teams rise to challenge them.

I've said it before, you always want your team to win, but competition from the rest of the league is a good thing.

To me it goes beyond that - when they get a Lewendowski on a free transfer from Dortmund, something is wrong. Now Dortmund should have sold, so its hard to have empathy for losing him for nothing, but the reality is Bayern is simply a magnet for top talent, and every other team is powerless to stop players from leaving. It really takes a perfect storm for other teams to be competitive in this environment, and damn near impossible for any kind of sustained excellence. At least La Liga has RM and Barca to counterweight each other, with an occasional 3rd team in the mix.

People are making a big deal about Refusing a handshake at an all-star/friendly? Lame.
I like Pep, but you have to rise above it here - I assume he does not fully appreciate that Porter really has no influence on the players at an all-star game, but even still, you rise above it, and criticize later, in the press.

It's a bit more than that. He spent a good portion of the second half screaming over at Porter on the bench and gesticulating wildly in the charming European fashion. Poor Caleb looked like he wanted to hide. I think Porter probably exacerbated the problem a bit by being so passive, but its tough to know.

Looks like all my peeps in Birmingham are about to get the fever for the flava.

4.35 BST: Aston Villa are apparently very close to signing former Liverpool full back Aly Cissokho from Valencia for 2.5 million euros. Super Deporte claim the deal has gone as far as the Frenchman only needing a medical before it can be confirmed. Happy days for Villa fans.

Falcao now 10/11 to sign with Real. Liverpool drops to 7/4 :kicksrock:

Can someone please explain to me what Real is doing? They just re-upped Benzema and are now signing Falcao. Thats in addition to CR7, Hames, Bale, Di Maria and Isco in attack. Im assuming Di Maria is gone but my gosh thats a lot of expensive talent sitting on the bench.

NO DEFENSE. ALL OFFENSE. They will be playing a 0/5/5 formation.

It's expensive, but if they can afford it... They're now two deep at every important attacking position (assuming Jese backs up CR7 and Bale). So they don't have to kill Benz or Falcao, but can also play pretty much the same way no matter who they rest.

I'm still unclear whether they'll play Kroos deeper in the Xabi Alonso role or have him also in the mix for #10, but to me, this is a team where every piece fits. I can see exactly how I'd expect them to play. It's not like when they had Higuain and Benz, where the team played differently for each guy.

Agree. Benzema becomes a pretty formidable backup in your scenario

I also see Kross as a deeper lying player. Or at least in a more central role like Khederia.

The transfer market odds are not very indicative at all of anything. Sites like SkySports have them, but max bet is like 50 pounds and really just for fun bets more than anything else. Big clubs always have fanboys popping down some quid hoping to get their guys, but I never make very much of it at all because it just isn't a true gauge.

Falcao to me makes too much sense for city of liverpool so I'm hoping he goes to Real Madrid. RM relied so much on CR7 for goals/attack last year, you would think with all the talent they have that one guy doesn't dominate so much, but he does. Falcao is better than Benzema and they have no problem rotating players. But damn that wage bill each month must be a ####### killer.
