What about the guys ManU is losing? Javier Hernandez? Is he a slouch? Welbeck no good?
Chicharito had a great start with United and had a very high goal/min rate. He's a super-sub who can score goals. I think he'll fit in ok at RM when he plays because the focus will be on CR and Bale and Kroos and James and Benzema and Modric.......my god.

BREAKING NEWS: Hearing whispers of Ron Vlaar heading to Man United. Unconfirmed as of yet. #MUFC
That one wouldn't surprise me at all. LvG seems determined to stick with 3-5-2 so getting a defender who has some experience with it makes sense. Not to mention - holy #### has Evans been horrible. I actually thought he played pretty well last year but he seems completely out of his depth in a 3-5-2 (as do most of the CBs that have played so far).
While I agree with you to a certain point, this is another bandaid over a broken arm. They missed out on de Vrij and Martins Indi, who combined would have cost less than Rojo!

That's two proven 352 players, who know the coach and are right about the same level as Rojo while being younger.

This window will appease most of the fans, but this is setting up to be epic when they miss out on top 4 this season.
I'm more than willing to admit that they've overpaid and right now have some mismatched parts - no doubt. However, you can't have it both ways. Everyone save a few United fans have been saying they needed a major overhaul and an infusion of talent. Well, that's exactly what they are doing. You can't convince me that basically every club in the world wouldn't want ADM and Falcao. Just imagine they did this during the offseason after SAF left - the story would be reloading and not panic buys. And I don't give two ####s about the money as the Glazers have been lining their pockets and living off SAF's legacy.
I have no problem with the spending. Its the whining and moaning when other teams spent big to break into the upper echelons of the league. Thats exactly what United is doing now. YOU guys cant have it both ways. :grad:
Also, years of mocking us for firing managers and not playing club academy products. United has too much "class" to give a manager a short leash, they said during SAF's long run, but Moyes was a dead man walking by Christmas and they're already grumbling about van Gaal after 3 games. Who's left on the roster that came through Carrington? I'm not sure about Janusaj. Blackett?

Welbeck

They bought Janzaj in 2012 iirc

I kind of hate to see Welbeck leave - but he never really made the most of his opportunities. He ran a lot but never did much with it. Kind of like a poor man's Walcott without the same level speed but with all of the poor finishing.

I think Welbeck, Lingard and Keane. No impact players in the bunch.

Walcott's actually a good finisher - very cool and efficient, though not flashy. His problems are technical skills like first touch and dribbling. He's also very one-footed.

I don't think Welbeck is a big loss and Hernandez, while a very good poacher, isn't dynamic enough to be a regular starter for a big club.

I'm curious, why is Januzaj not thought of higher? He seems to impress more than anyone else on the pitch when I've watched the first 3 weeks.

According to the Telegraph, Falcao's wages will be £346,000 per week. Inland Revenue is happy to welcome him to the UK.
:lmao: :Panic:
That's the real story here - United are panic buying all over the place, but if you panic buy at a high enough price people compliment it as ambitious.

Falcao has never played in the PL and is coming off of a major knee injury, and they're paying that. That's insanity.
I can't believe that wage number - almost certainly false.
I suspect it's the equivalent of his tax-free Monaco earnings when UK taxes are figured in.

Still young and my guess is that LvG is making him earn a spot. He's not great on defense and needs to be stronger on the ball (and stay on his feet). I tend to agree with you that he's look better than the rest so far. Just another piece that LvG needs to sort out. It'll take him a while I think.

It's being reported literally by every English media outlet I can see. Remember that he was part of Monaco's push for silverware a year ago. If anything, his wages have been increased by MUFC to account for tax hit.

A quote from Harry Redknapp:

"We tried to get one or two others and made a big effort to get Jermain Defoe. He wanted to come home but there was no way Toronto would release him before their play-offs."

============

I think Defoe is very likely to go come this winter.

More on Defoe, looks like Arsenal was interested as well

TORONTO - Toronto FC's Jermain Defoe isn't going to go.

A day after TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko told reporters the club was fielding multiple offers for the Englishman's services, the Toronto Sun has learned that those bids have been rejected by Toronto FC.

Bidders are rumoured to have included Leicester City, Arsenal and others while Queen's Park Rangers approached MLSE with an $11 million bid for the 31-year-old striker.

"When we made a decision to go big and build a club, there are certain environments that come with that," MLSE head honcho Tim Leiweke told the Sun exclusively.

"When you get around transfer window days you anticipate good and bad."

The good: Toronto FC had bids for five of its players, proving a certain level of respect for the club's rebuilt roster.

The bad: "Obviously the bids that were most intense were for Jermain Defoe," Leiweke told the Sun.

"We're not interested in him going anywhere," Leiweke added.

"People spin this stuff based on their end goals. There was spinning."

Toronto FC signed Defoe from Tottenham last January on a $10 million transfer fee and are paying him roughly $6.5 million per season over four years.

News of Defoe remaining at TFC arrives less than 24 hours after Toronto FC moved to fire former head coach Ryan Nelsen.

Bezbatchenko introduced Greg Vanney as the club's ninth head coach on Sunday in a move the club hopes will help the embattled Reds make their first-ever playoff appearance.

"Over the past 13 matches we’ve won three games,” Bezbatchenko explained. “Thinking about our locker room and knowing our guys, I know we can get more out of our guys.

“For me it was about the body language, the energy and the focus,” Bezbatchenko added following a 3-0 loss to New England on the weekend.

“We’ve lacked purpose, offensively and defensively.”

Toronto FC travels to Philadelphia for a midweek match before returning Saturday to face Philly in back-to-back games that will go a long way in defining TFC's topsy-turvy season -- which on Sunday had a bit of sanity restored to it thanks to Defoe.

"There were three different clubs that approached us," Leiweke said. "We want to make the playoffs. We'll get through this."

Some tweets coming out that Falcao failed his medical. That's going to be about as big of a bombshell as the expected signing was after media reported on it all day.

(just hope it doesn't scupper the Wellbeck-to-Arsenal deal :scared: )

Hearing Falcao has failed a medical. Could it affect Welbeck deal to Arsenal?

Fake account..

He's a fantastic talent, but also very young. I expect he will get decent time this season.
What I've seen of him- it's his decision making and tactical awareness that seems immature. Fantastic skills on the ball and good physical ability- just makes the wrong dribbles, runs and passes too much... you can see the reaction on his teammates' faces more often than not when he attacks 3 defenders instead of playing the easy ball, or doesn't make the 2nd run to support the play.

But he's young, right? Still a teen or young 20 guy? Seems like he'll learn that stuff and learn to utilize his fantastic skill-set... in the right setting.

Still 19 and I agree with you - got to learn a team game. Wonderkid at 1-on-1 drills I'm sure but needs to work on crossing and decision making plus strength.

MUFC just killed the rumor about failed Falcao medical - he passed and they're finalizing the deal.

Wellbeck to Arsenal is still being completed.

Sounds like Man U didn't move for Concrete Ron, right? So Rojo, Jones, Smalling, Evans, and Blackett (and maybe Kean) are the CB options?

I guess the one place that I really worry about Man U is at RB or RWB, depending on formation. One way around that would be to essentially rely on DiMaria to get most of the width on the right hand side and essentially have the right defender stay at home while Shaw is given more freedom on the left.

I don't see a way to consistently play Rooney, RVP, and Falcao together. Considering Falcao's and RVP's health, they're probably best served as a rotation.

RVP............Falcao

........Rooney

Stick Mata on the bench.

I think CB is the weak link, especially playing 3 at the back. Evans has been shaky as hell and Smalling hasn't developed.

Valencia is a fine RWB imo. They also have Rafael, who would be better suited for the 4-3-3. Back line of Shaw, Rojo, Jones, and Rafael is solid on paper. Still worst in the top 5 though.

I think Rafael could play RWB and do an adequate job - I think he's too small to play R-CB in a 3-man back line.

I still don't like Jones as a CB - he's almost too aggressive at times. His idiotic challenge on the edge of the box Saturday almost allowed for an opening goal. I think the only position he can play right now is DM
