I'm in the midst of a sports purity project, whereby I've closed all gambling accounts and don't participate in any fantasy, pick-em or similar competitions - zilch - for the first time in probably 20 years. It is pretty refreshing.
Recording and watching later, something I've been doing for many years, is for me a somewhat odd experience. There is something missing from the experience when you know the game was played and ended hours earlier. For NFL, there's a huge benefit in being able to fast forward through the breaks and various delays in the game. For soccer, I often find it hard to watch the full 90 at normal speed, especially if its late at night or I have other external demands on my time. Its just not as relaxing for me as sitting down knowing I'm going to watch a live game for the next 90 minutes. If I'm going to watch games a day or two after they're played, I often prefer highlight shows, or watching a condensed format like beIn's 90 in 30, even knowing that I'm missing out on the finer tactical points of the game. For Champions League group stage, I watch Chelsea games in full (live or delayed) and highlight shows for all other games. In the knockouts, I'll record and watch more games delayed, but still rely mostly on the highlight show.
