Just turned on the USA Honduras game... Surprised to see Jones playing CB. I hadn't heard that was in the mix. Best tackling CB for the USA ever?

that. was. awesome. and pretty terrible too.
This describes most soccer things that happen in the Balkans.
Yeah Albanians and Serbs (along with Croats) are two groups of people you don't want to mess with in a deragatory way (I was told my GFs Croat father not to wear this one Duke shirt since something in it looked lIke a symbol of the really right wing Serbs). If you mess with of the ex-Yugos go with the Slovenians.

Having watched the 2nd Serbian/Albanian video, I will say outside the initial dustup between the Albanian and Serbian players, I thought the Serbian players did a decent job helping to protect the Albanian players on the field from fans, and from things thrown from the stands.

Yeah, I do not think that the players wanted to fight. The first video lead me to believe otherwise.

Kolarov the peacekeeper.

In AFCON qualifiers, DR Congo scored an 88th minute goal to beat Ivory Coast 3-4. DR Congo is ahead of Ivory Coast but both still have to play group leaders Cameroon.

Nigeria finally won a game. South Africa and Congo drew which should help the Super Eagles.

Algeria virtually clinched a spot in the finals (if they happen).

Egypt beat up on Botswana for the second time in a week to pull within a point of 2nd place Senegal but they probably still need to beat Senegal in Cairo next month to have a chance of advancing.

There were some great goals in that Ivory Coast game, as well as drama...

They are currently leading the "3rd placers". 2 tough games ahead, need to win at least one and probably a point from the other.

Just saw the full text of Garber's comments and, whoa... he lost the plot. Comes across as insecure. Can't believe no one stopped him from going there.

Andy probably has more insight into this - but it sounds to me that he was doing the bidding of a few owners - and that is what commissioners do. I agree that it was not a well-thought out idea.

“Zero safety does not exist, but one has to take the necessary precautions so that the coming tournament will be a football feast, bringing together our African brothers, but given the current Ebola situation we don’t think such a feast can take place as expected.

“We are talking about the Africa Cup of Nations where we are expecting between 200,000 to 400,000, even one million spectators to converge in Morocco.

“I don’t think there is any state or any country that has the necessary capabilities to monitor, check and control the current Ebola situation when faced with these numbers.

“This is our real problem. We don’t have a problem with visiting teams, we have a problem with visitors.”

Has the offside rule changed recently?

Was playing in a game last weekend. Striker coming across the field is offside when the through ball is played for him to run onto. He continues his run toward the ball. Defender turns and runs toward the ball but it gets by him without touching it. Offside player continues run takes the ball and heads toward goal. Defenders call for the offside. Ref says that since the defender went to try and play the ball it meant the striker was no longer offside and was a recent rule change.

I have not seen any ref call it this way and noone I have asked has confirmed this change. Any ideas here? (we were the offside team and no we didnt score it).

It has been tweaked recently, but not in a way that explicitly covers that situation. Here is the complete text of the current Rule 11.

Offside position

It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
A player is in an offside position if:
• he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the
second-last opponent
A player is not in an offside position if:
• he is in his own half of the fi eld of play or
• he is level with the second-last opponent or
• he is level with the last two opponents
Offence
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position
No offence
There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
• a goal kick
• a throw-in
• a corner kick
If the striker never stopped running for the ball, I don't see how the change would affect him.
