Don Garber must be cringing right now. The players are having a field day retweeting these comments from TFC. :)

============

“The league is going through a debate — the haves versus the have nots,” Leiweke added.

“Are we going to count mints on the pillow and bring everyone down to the lowest common denominator? Or are we going to create a vision of what soccer can be in North America in the next five-to-10 years and challenge the system?

Leiweke said more than once during Tuesday’s chit chat that he expects Toronto FC to do more than $50 million in revenue in 2015, a number he claimed would be a North American soccer record.

@SoccerMorning: "We meet or exceed the vast majority of div 2 standards, will prepare application for 2017 season" - USL President Tim Holt

and so it goes...
Here is a good related factoid about standards. MLS does not meet US Soccer's standards for a Div 1 league :)
and without promotion/relegation... who cares?
The only item affected by the division status is Champions League qualification from what I can tell.

This is just mind boggling. This is from the official twitter feed of Accrington Stanley.

@ASFCofficial: The Prem Lge has a new £5bn TV deal. £10m per match. 1 game would pay our annual wage bill for the next 20 years
Kind of a weird statement for that team to make. I'm sure a Division 3 school has a fraction of the resources of Ohio State.

European football is capitalism at it's finest.

Maybe the larger question is if PL is better for or worse off in the future as this income inequality grows. FWIW, I have no idea. And I may not be able to think objectively about it because I am so emotionally vested in a viable promotion/relegation structure.

Another thought that comes to mind is that PL -- and its Euro competitors -- have only scratched the surface so far in the Chinese, Indian and North American markets, markets composed of something like 2.5 billion potential fans.

What does this mean?
There are different standards US Soccer mandates for Div 1, Div 2 and Div 3 status. USL feels like they are close enough to make the jump from Div 3 to Div 2 status in a couple of years.

It's interesting. I love promotion/relegation. But with SO MUCH MONEY at stake, shady things could start happening.

I mean, no matter what happens in the NFL, the teams are going to make bank.

But I imagine losing out on PL money is something that teams will do anything to avoid. It also would be devastating for teams that have built a roster with PL money to have a bad year and get relegated. Instantly the whole organization could implode. It's cool to watch, but for a business owner, it's a huge risk.

But then, how would you ever change it in a way that is fair? Announce that the final year of relegation/promotion is 5 years away and give everyone a chance? It would be a cluster, and I'd imagine lawsuits would fly.

Hazard playing the trequarista role is fun. Suits him well.
His first touch is exquisite. Seems he always brings it down clean, allowing him to immediately make a positive move.
This is probably not good for Oscar. Hope he doesn't get Mata'd.
We'll see. I had thought that Cuadrado would be brought in to kind of be a middle ground between Willian's ridiculous workrate and a more technical player. But I should have known that Jose wouldn't give up Willian's engine easy.

Probably better to put this conversation on hold while the afternoon games are on but things would be better without owners.

I see that one result of the new contract is that the Espanyol president just said he's ready to shut La Liga down unless they get a collectively bargained TV contract like PL has. For all I know, however, this may be a routine threat tendered every couple of years.

:goodposting:

and he's one of those rare guys who looks to do something with the ball after the first touch, rather than just pass it off.

cliche... but he's electric whenever he gets the ball. off the top of my head, him, Sterling, Alexi Sanchez are in that category in the EPL.

I'm too lazy to search for my post while on mobile, but I finished my tracking excel sheet for the PL run in. Same as last year basically, but more teams.

It basically calculates the top 8, and allows you to put in future results to see how things can play out. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can upload it somewhere to share.

Oscar actually picked up a knock in training - pulled muscle or something.

added to electric category:

Chris Smalling.

Annotating the dossier.

if this is how United looks vs Burnley (and vs West Ham), then Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Tottenham will all crush them. and the LVGOUT campaign will reach Moyesian levels.
