Also, hung out with Landon Donovan's wife for a while and me and some buddies even talked to him on the phone, pretty cool girl.
For people that don't know, Landon is married to Bianca Kajlich who is in the TV show Rules of Engagement. For a short balding guy, he didn't do too bad for himself

I have seen worse reasons for not wanting to spend a whole season in Germany

She was in Fastlane and one of the ####ty recent Halloween flicks.

Big props to DP for making this happen.

Nice work buddy. You still need a transfer of €? I have a Spanish bank account.

I'm very disappointed that Chelsea missed out on Mark Hughes - congrats to City on a great hire. Very little confidence in Roman's ability to find a good manager at this point as the circus continues.
Who's still out there?
Its very hard to tell with all the rumors, offers, denials, and the crazy European football press. As of today, the names I mostly see are Scolari (done nothing at club level) and Rijkaard (could at least teach John Terry how to properly spit on an opponent). Spaletti (Roma) and Ancelotti (AC Milan) are bandied about but appear to be even less likely than the first two. My super-secret tip is Guus Hiddink, whose salary as Russian coach is already paid by Abramovich, but who will be somewhat busy this summer until Russia is eliminated from the Euro.

BTW, Argentina trounced Mexico 4-1 yesterday. Top rated side in the world right now, and play USA on Sunday.
I'll be there! And Mexico was down 3-0 at half, so the 4-1 scoreline is actually a little worse than it appears given typical 2nd half mass subs.

I thought I saw that Ancelotti was staying at Milan. No link, but caught a snippet of commentary while on vacation this week.

Sure seems (from the Spanish commentators) that Spain is playing like crap. Some comments, "Mejor será que nos vayamos al descanso. Recapacitar y empezar de nuevo." - "It's best that we head to the halftime. Regroup and start again.""El centro del campo no da una. Iniesta y Villa, posiblemente los futbolistas en mejor forma, no están en el verde. Se nota." - "The midefield isn't yielding anything. Iniesta and Villa, possibly the players in the best form are on the pitch. It's noteworthy."
The announcers said that Iniesta and Villa are NOT on the field, and that it is showing. Those two missed the game.

I watched the full game. Freddy Adu shows flashes. He is still too soft and looks more to get fouled or to find another player than to aggressively go to goal, but you can't deny his talents.
I don't think Adu played soft at all. Spain played him very aggressively. When he was fouled, they were fouls. That"s not his fault. I was very impressed with him. I hope he starts from now on. No need to pile on EJ. All I will say is he better never start again unless he lights it up off the bench multiple times. I thought Edu made some nice plays, but he also made some poor decisions. I'd love to see Donovan, Altidore, Adu, and Beasley on the pitch at the same time.

I heard the ticket sales were going very well down there at the Swamp.Brazil vs Venzuela is expected to draw over 60,000 here in Boston. One would think the Krafts could put two and two together and realize how important a big name Brazilian DP could mean to the Revs attendance woes.

El vino tinto is gonna get trounced in Beantown. That could be as ugly as the 4-1 Argentina-Mexico scoreline.

BTW, I just want to ask again, "How stacked is Argentina, especially up top?"

Sorry, I missed a "not" in there. Thanks.

No entiendo
I had said earlier that if funds were a problem in terms of getting to the game in Santander, then I would buy your pasaje (ida y vuelta). I can transfer funds in either $ or € as I have both US and Spanish bank accounts.
Oh must have missed that. Things are tight sure, but I got a 8 euro vuelta so that helped.

Nice!BTW, will you still be there in late November (Thanksgiving-ish)?I am tentatively planning a trip back to Madrid for a week during that time. Maybe we can catch a game (Atlético, Real, or Valladolid) if you're around.

I think Beasley and EJ should not be playing right now. Beasley is not 100% looks very slow on the field. EJ kept getting knocked off the ball by Puyol. Puyol is a great defender and completely took EJ out of the game from being dangerous at all with the ball. However his misses on the header and his performance on the few breakaways he had are inexcusable.

I hope Feilhaber gets back into action with the team soon as I am a big proponent of him.

Was impressed with Edu who seemed to do very well coming back on defense and also well getting things moving forward. I though Bocanegra and Onyewu did very well in the middle on Torres and, except for a gaffe in the first half, Howard made some strong saves. Liked the work from Cherrundoro as well. Overall the defensive did very good in my opinion despite the constant pressure.

Not impressed with Bradley and that foul was just blatant stupidity.

Adu is developing well IMO. He had an obvious presence that the Spaniards had to resort to fouls to try to knock him out of his game. His ball skills are of course phenomenal.

All in all I am very hopeful about this team coming into the next world cup cycle. Donovan and Altidore being there would have made a big difference and Altidore will be playing in the Champion's League next year which is huge for American soccer. The sky isn't falling, I see a good qualification ahead.

I heard the rumor was that Jozy was going to be loaned immediately...By the way, its going to be a kick in the teeth eventually (hopefully) watching him pair with Rossi as imagining that could have been the US trike force for the next 10 years.

I doubt he'll sniff the starting lineup for Villarreal IF he's not loaned out.Lots of rumors have him being loaned out to teams inside and outside La Liga (including Recre, and Valladolid).

I know that. But every report states that Jozy will be loaned out. If that is true he won't be on Villareal's squad for the Champions League.

goal.com is reporting that Ronaldo and Real have agreed to terms of a 5 year deal, all thats left is for Real to negotiate a fee for his sale. Not sure what to believe now and how bad this could turn out.

I would hate to see a 23 year old stud who is only going to improve leave United, but the money he should command for his transfer could let them buy 2 or 3 of his replacements.

If I were Ronaldo i would be looking to stay at United for another few seasons, esp with repeats of CL and EPL glory a possibility and a shot at the treble very possible. Winning a La Liga title just isnt as enticing to me.

i hope this isn't true. It's not as if ManU is hurting for money, and players with the talent of Ronaldo do not just grow on trees. Play in the EPL is a lot different than other leagues, and for a player with the finesse of Ronaldo to thrive there is certainly not the norm. Plenty of talented players have gone to the EPL only to never regain the form they had previously. And while I agree that winning La Liga may not hold the status of the EPL currently has, it's not that far behind, and a team like Real is almost always going to be in strong contention for champions league play.Well, if he leaves, the cupboards aren't exactly barren at Old Trafford, but they look no where near as nice as they did. I have to figure Giggs role will be diminished, Scholes is about done, Hargreaves, well, I'm not too high on him, that midfield will look a lot different than it has. But a guy like Anderson may very well step in and be another great one. And my main man Rooney will have a bit more scoring pressure thrust upon him. United will miss Ronaldo most in the air, as he was a prolific scorer on corners.

Embarrassment of riches: Messi, Aguero, Tevez, Cruz, Sosa, Rodriguez, Higuain...But I think Messi and Aguero are the class of the lot.

Letting dos Santos go for less than 5 million Euros is a shame. Laporta is a fool.
Terrible move by Barca. Tottenham stole him, though the report says the fee could go up to 8.6 depending on appearances. Looks like I was right baout Hleb though (maybe by accident?):Soccernet:"Alexander Hleb's representative claims a deal to take the Arsenal player to Barcelona 'is close'."

I had not read that yet.

I had heard that Recreativo Huelva was a potential loan target for Villareal. Can't be too surprised that Ron is leaving Manchester. The draw of the 'Galacticos' is just too strong. That, and all that money. That, and his willingness to come out and quash the rumors of the last couple weeks, meant he was as good as gone.Agreed with others - Tottenham got Dos Santos for a song, even if the fee rises to nine million. Kid has the goods.

Barca is all about letting go fo their young talent for a bargin and signing players that are overpriced, and that is the reason they finished so far back this year and will not do much better next year.

I disagree. Barça only recently fell under the sway of "spend big" like Real did for a while (and looks to regress to doing).Barça failed to do well this year because some key players got hurt (Messi, et. al.) , and some didn't play up to their supposed star power (Henry and Ronnie). Add in some backroom squables and the disappointment that the realization that they wouldn't win ANY hardware this season meant that the pace of their failure accelerated. They've had trouble for some time dominating away from Camp Nou. This year was worse and saw their home form match their away form.I for one can't say I'm displeased, although I would have preferred that my Atleti take the #3 spot from them.

The best thing about her is she isn't a waif. You can't see her ribs and she's actually got some meat on her bones. Rules of Engagment is pretty good, too. Patrick Warburton is a riot.

Who is their manager? I read something about Rijkaard being replaced with a former player with very little experience, but it seemed they are perhaps still looking.

EURO 2008 starts today with Switzerland - Czech Republic kicking off the tournament, followed by Portugal - Turkey later today.

What are everyone's predictions for the final?

I'm saying:

Germany - Italy

Germany European Champs 2008.

Is there an official Euro 2008 thread yet?

did you join our fantasy league? http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=398477I am riding Germany in one work pool, but my surprise team is Greece (although defending champ, still not taken seriously).

Am i the only one who thinks Lehmann will allow a very weak goal or 2 leading to their demise?

Venezuela beats Brazil 2-0. First time ever they have beaten Brazil.

Just a friendly, and probably Brazil not at full strength, but even so...

The new manager is Pep Guardiola. He is indeed a former (immensely popular) player who was managing the B team last season. He is very inexperienced - I don't think this was a very good hire, but I hope I'm wrong. In other Blaugrana news, it looks like Barcelona has signed Dani Alves:

Alves to Barca

He should be a good fit. I'm still livid about Dos Santos leaving for so little.

im surprised how dead this thread is since Euro started. Monday should liven things up hopefully.

The Portugal/Turkey game was difficult to watch at times with all the diving. Portugal looked pretty good though, everyone on that squad (excluding Ferreira) has some goal scoring skills.

I feel for Switzerland. They gave Czech Republic everything they had and surely deserved at least a point. To add insult to injury they lose Frei before halftime. Not a great start for the co-hosts.

Switzerland deserved at least a point. I must say I was very disappointed by the Czechs performance. I don't think they'll make it to the 2nd round. Portugal vs Turkey wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but I still think both teams will make the 2nd round, Portugal shouldn't have any trouble.
