Plenty of first half chances for United, and unlucky not to score right at the death, but I'm happy to take that 0-0 back to Old Trafford with Vidic back in the lineup.

...and it looks like we're playing Swansea in the Cup, as they're currently leading 0-1 at the Cottage.

ETA - Fulham scored the instant I posted that.

Valdez is a liability in goal.
He has been for a few seasons now.
I know. I am sure Mjolnirs can chime in with how long I have been going off on Valdes. He needs someone to push him if not replace him. Also it is clear that Barca needs something else at left back. Puyol is not a valid option at there with Abbidal out. Abbidal isn't that good anyways.Still, there are much worse results than on the away leg. Would have liked to win though.

i just don't see park's value in the lineup for man u. every time i watch them i'm left wondering why he's out there.
Park is friggin great. You have to realize that these guys just can't go out and play each and every game. Even a big club like ManU, with a ton of depth, needs to rotate players, as they play a ton of games each season.Park is a relentless midfielder, constantly closing down on opposing players, stopping them from mounting an attack, running down tons and tons of open balls, and allowing the other midfielders/attack to save themselves and make plays. When you have a guy on the wings, you want a guy that is able to go all out, all the time, putting pressure on the opposition (especially an attacking team like United). Park does this every game he is out there. He's one of the unsung heroes that every great team has. I'd much prefer having Park out there in an important match than Nani, Anderson, hell even Scholes. The former two are way more talented, but more suspect on defense. Scholes is limited on offense and frankly often lacks in fitness later in matches.

Couple nice games today. If I were a betting man  I'd be all over Real today vs Liverpool. Real is playing great, Liverpool is a team in turmoil. Now rumors are flowing that Rafa may be out? I can't see how Liverpool is going to be able to mount any attack, even if the return of Gerrard.

Also think there may be some goals in the Sporting/Bayern game, although I can't quite get a good feel for that one.

I think Chelsea should be able to beat Juve at home today. Tough for anyone to score @ Stamford Bridge, and with a little extra time off, I just feel Chelsea is a superior side. Itallian clubs (outside of maybe Inter) are a bit overrated in my mind, and no where near physical enough. They've gotten better in recent years, but I'll take Chelsea here.

I didn't see the game, but the bizarre story of the day has to be Kolo Toure’s supersticous need to be the last player to take the field - including in the second half. With Gallas still getting treatment when the second half started, Toure refused to take the field in violation of his rule, leaving Arsenal with only 8 field players and no central backs. Then to add insult to injury, he joined play before getting permission and was booked.

I was wondering what the explanation to that mess was.

I agree completely. Park is the most underrated player on Man U now that everyone recognizes how good Vidic is. This won't be the first time I use Bora Milutonovic in this thread, but I think the quote is particularly apt. You need piano players and you need piano movers. I think there's a reason why Cesc Fabregas was less effective this year even before his injury. He misses Hleb and Flamini. Neither of those guys are the most technically accomplished players in the world. But they're world class piano movers. Iron legged runners and ball winning machines. I also think that Park is given short shrift on his technical skills. He's not a great finisher, but he gets to the byline as well as just about any winger out there. He's a good crosser of the ball (not Beckham, but well above average). And he's two footed, which allows him to switch with Ronaldo at any time (increasing Man U's ability to find a favorable matchup for CR7). I understand how the casual viewer might think Giggs is better than Park. On the showy stuff, Giggs is still wonderfully talented. But in a truly challenging game, where defensive assignments matter, I don't think it's a mystery why Sir Alex chooses Park.

Liverpool/Madrid on TV today? I'm only seeing the Chelsea game.
I think that one is on Setanta. There should be three "tv games" if you have all the right channels. The problem is that Setanta isn't on cable, and ESPN Deportes isn't on Direct TV. The game on ESPN Deportes gets replayed right away on ESPN Classic though. That is the pattern I have noticed since last season anyway.

Pitiful.

I'm not one to call for the head of the manager very often, but it might be time to start looking for a replacement for Wenger. The players just looked listless, like they didn't give a ####. A lot of pointing fingers at the end of the game, players visibly frustrated with others.

Arshavin looked pretty damn good. Nasri looked ok, Toure was solid as usual. The rest of the players either aren't good enough or were just mailing it in. van Persie blew like 15 chances in front and didn't even look like he cared. Denilson flat out sucks. He sucks. I know I've said it before in here a bunch of times, and I'll say it again: DENILSON SUCKS.

There have been rumors for the past 2 years about him leaving. He's obviously got a lot of talent, and there are a bunch of English, Italian, and not a few Spanish teams that would like to have him. He's not going anywhere in Spain IMO because there's no way that Atleti send him across town, he's got a mini-feud w/ Messi, and no other team has the $$ to buy him. I don't think he's suited to the English game and he's never expressed interest in going there. That leaves the major teams in Italy, only a handful would be able to put up the 35-40m euros to transfer fee. There's nothing concrete though thus far.

IMO, I don't think he's going anywhere unless Atleti don't qualify for UEFA. If that happens, they will need to sell him. After next year is anyone's guess though. I see Forlan leaving before el Kun.

Park will give you the top workrate of anyone out there (aside from tevez). He wont lose a game for you. He also wont win it for you. I am not a park fan but giggs shouldnt go 90 and anderson/nani arent ready mentally. I would love to see more of the kid, welback out there. He can run and has some scoring threat in him too. Carling Cup final tomorrow vs Tottenham should be a good one....

Barca-Atleti tomorrow on Gol TV. Barca looking to get back to their winning ways. I'll be watching.
Barcelona has owned Atlético in the last few showings. Let's hope that trend reverses tomorrow. I'll be watching online as I don't get GOL TV.¡Aupa Atleti! VAMOS!!!!!

Hopefully the Atletico defense that showed up (or didn't) midweek shows up today. Barcelona need a good performance today to keep things calm in La Liga.

Bayern v Werder then Atletico v Barcelona , sounds like a work stoppage.
Anywhere on the web one can see the Werder-Bayern match at Noon est?
I don't know of a place, you can try www.rojadirecta.com, but if you start watching now, noon, you will have missed the first half since it kicked off at 11 eastern.

For those of you that missed the Marca-Atleti game.... You need to watch it. Or at least the last 20 minutes of the game. Amazing finish.

Great back and forth all game. I can't believe Eto'o missed that break and Forlan came right back and drilled that long one. Terrible foul in the box by Henry.Looks like their is a race in La Liga after all. Hope you're happy, Z.

Barça is only up by 4 points on Real in La Liga. Three weeks ago they were up by 11 points and looked unstoppable. This was really the only way that the La Liga title race would be interesting.

I was yelling almost non-stop at the computer screen for the last 20 minutes of the game. When Kun put that last one past Valdés, I tore off my sweatshirt and ran around the room. Later on my gf said to me, "I'm happy that Atlético won, but I always think when you get like this 'Why can't he be this happy about the things we do together?'"

Ah... women. No matter how much they say the like sports, they never really get it.

Getting back to the game. Barça's defense was exposed a bit today, and the same could be said for Atleti, if they actually HAD a defense. This was not a game for the purists, but if there's some non-converts out there, this would be a fun game to have them watch. End to end for the full 90 minutes, full of emotion, scoring, and some great chances that didn't convert. All this was helped by a TON of stupid defensive plays by both teams. I'm happy that Barça was without some key players, and I'm happy that Assunçao stepped up his game against Xavi. Getting these 3 points was a fantastic result for Atlético, and getting some momentum by turning around the attitude of death and darkness that was surrounding the team will go a long way to getting that away goal win in Porto.

¡Aupa Atleti!

Their center midfield play has been dreadful without Cesc(actually it wasn't even great with him). And I was also frustrated by the game. However, to put it on Wenger I think is a bit unfair. They have almost an entire front line caliber squad out with injury. Some of the current squad will not be around next year, that is for sure. If I were to fault Wenger for anything, it would be for the way that he has built the squad, not for his tactics or team morale. Even with the injuries to Eduardo, Adebayor, Walcott and Rosicky, they still have quality up front and wide(a bit of a drop off but players who belong on the pitch). Without Fabregas however, they have nothing in the middle. Denilson as you pointed out has been less than stellar. Song is a mediocre stop gap at best, and may be better suited in a central defensive role. Diaby has shown some flashes of stellar play surrounded by mounds of mediocrity... and Aaron Ramsey simply isn't ready yet. I know I keep singing the same tune, but why not throw Wilshere in for some minutes? The Champions League is gone, let's see if the kid is ready to play at this level. I knew that they would end up missing Flamini, but I never thought that I would be longing for Gilberto even at his current level of play.

ManUnited may be the biggest beneficiary of this. Up 7 with a game in hand, they are coasting to the title in the premiership and can focus on the CL. Its never easy to focus on two competitions heading into spring, no matter how good you are.

Liverpool going into the crapper.
Yeah, they're done. A 2-nil loss to a team fighting to even stay in the Premiership is pathetic beyond words.Rafi needs to go.
If Rafa goes do you think the snap up Mourinho? He wants back to the EPL and Liverpool has the talent. I would rather coach Inter, but he is the special one.I'm a fan of Rafa but Liverpool is underperforming IMO. They still have a shot at the Champions league.

I'm still a novice when it comes to the world of soccer, so I wouldn't know who Mourinho is. With Rafi running off Keane and just everything else I've heard about the guy, I don't think he's that good and it seems like he's a bit of a tool.
