Yes - 2.5 years at Roma. I read earlier (unconfirmed) he had his lowest winning percentage ever at Roma. However, he did bring them a European Cup and played in consecutive cup finals.

Trippier to Bayern seems to have real legs. May as well. Kind of a lost season at this point barring an FA Cup miracle. Tino is there to step in. Trips clearly has some domestic crap going on. Might like the idea of getting a trophy this year, too.
If the Mags were ever going to send off a legend, doing so when he’s 33, way out of form, having familial problems (allegedly but also probably), in the midst of a middling team campaign and injury crisis - now when you have England’s future RB ready to take the reigns and the club need cash for FFP purposes is a good time to do it.

Phillips and Rice were a nice pair for England. I didn't like Phillips' move to City, didn't see how he would fit or get time. Replacing Rice at West Ham is a good move for him.

This is a #sehorn post. My son started playing and immediately made the local U11 travel squad, so now all we talk about is soccer and I'm apparently required to know Arsenal's status in the table and possible transfer and strategy options for the club at all times.
Teach me your ways. For example, I've got the table + tournament format that most of the Euro countries follow down I think, but what the hell are the Carabao Cup and the Supercoppa?

Neither of these is really a big deal imo, although the Carabao cup did give us a fantastic penalty kick ending a couple years ago, going 11 rounds deep and culminating with the hilarious Kepa miss. The main thing to know about the Carabao Cup is it’s really important until your team loses, then it’s total BS and you didn’t want to win anyway because no one cares. The SupperCopa I think is just one game - an exhibition between the prior year Italian champion and Cup winner.

Apologies for the typo- apparently I was thinking of the "Supercopa," ie the seemingly random Clasico fixture that popped up a week or two ago that I watched with my son. He was utterly baffled when I turned on a Copa del Rey QF yesterday, asked how last week's game fit into the puzzle, and I had no explanation for him.

Arsenal competes in Carabo Cup, FA Cup (this is just English clubs), and can compete in the Champions League, which is the top clubs from last year in all the major European leagues. Champions League is much much bigger than the other tournaments. The EPL sends 4 (or maaayybe 5 teams to the Champions League).
The transfer thing is much harder, as European soccer's governing body is starting to enforce guidelines on spending. Basically, you can not lose more than a certain amount of money over a certain amount of time, or you can suffer a point deduction, or even be relegated. Most EPL teams are not spending anything this January, and most are trying to sell.
There's a ton of well-done podcasts/YouTube vids that focus on every team, I would start there.

I get the basic structure of Euro football, with the regular season trophies, the knockout trophies, and qualifying for continent-wide stuff as the three "legs." I think my son is wondering why we have these extraneous cups, and whether/to what extent the teams care about them.
On the money stuff- this I really know nothing about. I had a vague notion that Arsenal, while obviously very rich, didn't have the same limitless supply of cash that it's peers in Upper Super Tier Elite euro football have, so increased policing might benefit them relatively speaking?
Also, yet another question: at the tender age of 10 my son is already very dismissive about American soccer. He chides me for playing as DC United on FIFA, and has zero interest in checking out the Serie A teams carrying multiple US players no matter how many times I suggest it. I'm assuming this is some sort of hipster cred thing?

I think it's because he doesn't hear much about Serie A. He's been an American sports fan all his life, so he prob came to it thinking every sport has one primary league and the rest aren't really worth his time. He accepted that Bayern was also vaguely worthy of attention because they got Kane. Barca and Real benefit from Messi mania and "El Clasico" hype and all that. From that perspective I think Serie A is just a weird sideshow on Paramount+.

Right. The SuperCoppa is the Italian version of the Community Shield in England.
Carabao Cup used to be called the Leagues Cup. In England, while every team in the pyramid is involved in the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup is a tournement just for the teams in the top two tiers (the Premiere League and the Championship). It's pretty much meaningless when a bigger team wins it, but it probably has significance if like Forrest or Bournemouth would win it. It qualifies you for the Europa Conference League. Which maybe nobody cares about either.

For whatever reason, Serie A doesn't seem to have the same cachet here in the States that it used to in the 80s and 90s. We haven't had a Serie A Champions League winner since Inter is 2010? And I think only one finals appearance (Juve) after that. They don't really have a world superstar in the league. Off the top of my head, the best player is probably Oshimhen? Lautaro Martinez?
Even beyond the quality of league and players, I think most newer fans just find English soccer more accessible.

We have US players on the 2 best teams in Italy, and historically 2 of the best in the world...even if they're not now. In same breath as Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, Fulham, etc.

It's all about money. I was shocked to hear how little those guys are making relative to the rest of the big leagues.
I remember when the 1st big Italian player came to MLS and wondered why... Then saw the difference in paychecks. It was eye opening for me.
So it makes sense theyre more of a development/selling league at this point, that can't attack the biggest name stars.
