It would be interesting to see what Pogba demands. He's just as underpaid as Sterling, IMO, but I'm pretty sure that Pogba would be worth whatever deal he gets. I think Sterling would be a bit overpaid at 150 thousand pounds a week, but that's just me.

Do not buy what the Southampton blogger at ESPNFC was selling in his game summary this week. Saints were fairly beaten at Stoke. But they changed the rule about Europa qualifying, right? Villa has to win the cup to get in?
Yes - runner-up no longer gets the Europa bid.
Well, that means that loser of this weekend's match isn't necessarily dead, though depending on Arsenal is pretty unsavory in its own right.

Still, let's not wait four more days. All my Spurs friends here can suck it right now.
You can have the EL. Good luck.

I know the CL is happening right now, but I'm following FC United of Manchester. They are trying to win today to gain a promotion to the Skrill North next year, just two promotions away from the Football League.

The team is 10 years old and was started by supporters of ManU who were annoyed with the "hostile takeover" of ManU by the Glazers.

Following them on twitter, they are really creating a great base of support, as they have a new little stadium opening up next year.

They've already been promoted like three times and should get it again today. Really neat story.

Of course, i took this team from nothing to the Premier League in football manager, so they are near and dear to my heart. :)

Yeah they're a fun story. If they get to the Skrill North next year they'll be playable on FM without an edited database, so I may give them a shot, too.

And they REALLY did not like Glazer.

I saw a trick to be able to play them. You have to start a new career and "sim" to something like June 24th of the next year. I think you go on vacation or something, i can't remember as it's been a few months.

Basically you get the game to the day before the new season rolls over and save the game. Then you progress through the next day and the lower league sees a few teams get promoted to the Skrill North. If FC United doesn't get it, you can reload and try again, as it will be different teams each time, although FC united is usually one of the teams most likely to get promoted.

A lot of hassle, but fun to do. I've had a good time. Found a good tactic online, used it all the way through, and progressed through the ranks to the premier league. Time-consuming but fun.

Hey Z Machine - Who is your favorite Atletico forward of the last 15+ years? Who was the best Atleti player?

2014-Present: Greizmann: 31 games /20 goals
2010-2014: Costa: 135/64
2011-2013: Falcao: 91/70
2006-2011: Aguero: 234/101
2007-2011: Forlan: 196/96
2000-2007: Torres: 243/91
1999-2000: Hasslebaink: 47/35
1998-1999: Vieri: 32/29

So many good names to choose from. An embarrassment of riches really:
Forlán is the only one where I've bought a jersey with a name on it.

But yes, the team has had some excellent strikers over the years. Falcao might have been the best of the bunch though as a pure goal striker. Torres and Kun just behind. Both of them got better in the Prem though. Falcao and Forlán peaked with Atleti. Griezmann is too new to gauge properly, but the future looks bright for him.

One of the worst teams in MLS improbably plays in the Champions League final.

A 105,000 attendance at sold out Azteca awaits poor Montreal against Club America. Most are expecting this to be a 5-6 goal win by America. If Montreal gets out of this say down only 3-1, that will have been probably the best they could realistically hope for going home for the second leg.

Ignatio Piatti for Montreal is going to need the game of his life if he has any hope of recording a rare double: winning two continental club championships on different continents in successive years. Last year he won the Copa Libertadores with San Lorenzo.

If Montreal won this CL, am I right in assuming that next year they would play in a tournament involving the European CL winners? If so, that would be the first competitive match for an mls team against a European team (friendlies aside), right?

Correct.

All the continental winners meet in the FIFA Club World Championships. The 6 winners of the each regional champions league/copa and the champion from the host country.

It is scheduled for this December.

And it's generally seen as a joke for the UEFA teams.
This is not true imo.

The UEFA teams consider it an inconvenience. But they send there top players and play their normal lineups. If they really considrred it a joke, they would send a reserve side and rest the star players.

Real Madrid started Ronaldo, James, Bale, Casillas, Pepe, Ramos, Kroos, Benzema, Macelo, and Isco in the final. That is no joke of a lineup imo.

A global championship tournament as the world's biggest club event is the next logical step, though there's obviously lots of work to do. If MLS grows to the point where its clubs can be competitive with Europe's, then those old UEFA guys will cast longing glances at our giant stadia and potentially massive tv revenues.

I don't know if I'll live to see it but I see progress in that direction and an old boy can dream.

I actually think playing in the EL is a net negative for clubs given how much of a burden it is to play on Thursdays. I'd rather my team finish 8th than 5th for that reason. I'd even venture to guess that United might not have finished top 4 this year had they finished in the EL spots last year.

Depends on the squad - and playing Thursday/Sunday is really no different than playing Wednesday/Saturday. Biggest difference may be the cities you are traveling to/from...

For a smaller squad, with little depth, those games pose a challenge. But if you have a deep squad, or enough youth players to play, its a good opportunity to get those players some games.

Hopefully you are younger than me because I most certainly won't live to see it.

The gap will close slightly in my lifetime I figure.

This last CBA was fascinating though as very interesting reports have surfaced that their was a clear divide in the ownership group between the newer owners and the older owners like Kraft and Hunt. The newer owners deferred to Kraft and Hunt this go around but if we are to see any great changes, the newer owners have to take the reigns for the next CBA.

http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/story/uefa-confirms-new-champions-league-seeding-system-for-next-season-042215

UEFA will introduce a new seeding system for the Champions League next season.

UEFA has published Champions League regulations for next season confirming a seeding change to reward national league winners. Top-seeded teams in eight groups will be the defending Champions League winner plus titleholders in the seven highest-ranked countries. If the Champions League winner also wins its national title, then the eighth top-seeded team is the Netherlands champion. That is PSV Eindhoven, which is only 30th-ranked in UEFA's club standings.

Currently, top-seeded teams are the eight highest-ranked in a five-year results cycle in UEFA competitions.

The new system should elevate league-leading Juventus and Zenit St. Petersburg, plus France's champion. On current standings, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Porto will drop in status in the Aug. 27 draw. Real Madrid would also drop down if Barcelona wins the Champions League and Spanish league.

That would have helped City the last few years. I do think that, if a team wins their league and CL, that spot should go to the runner up of the league.

Of the three strikers who moved from ATM to Chelsea, Hasselbaink is the CFC fan favorite by far. Perhaps Costa will catch him in time. It was a huge mistake when Chelsea let him go in favor of Mutu and Crespo. I was always surprised he couldn't really catch on with the Dutch national team in the late 90s, early 00s.

I saw it's a joke as it's obvious that the public doesn't care about it, and most die-hard fasn would rather their players NOT plan in the CWC due to injury and burnout concerns.

This is dumb and will create even more lopsided group draws than they already have.

Also just read that Ronaldo has scored 50+ goals for Real Madrid in each of the last five seasons. :excited:

Seriously thats just crazy.
