Heading to our first St. Louis FC game tonight during their inaugural season in the USL..... :banned:
Where are they playing at?

There has been a bunch of St Louis MLS expansion news the last couple of days. Garber is planning to meet with some city officials a money guys down there soon.
The St. Louligans marching in

In their section with constant chants and drums

My son checking out the action (or not)

Him actually cheering on the action

More close up action

They actually live stream the games on Youtube and can watch later

Overall, was a fun time and he enjoyed getting to see the action up close. Where they currently play is actually the same site where my son's club is and he gets to play on that same field all the time which was cool for him. In fact, one of his soccer school coaches is the strength coach for the team. We'll be checking this out more in the future and already have a few free tix for a game in about a week.

Boca should forfeit and be banned from playing home games for six months.
At least. That was ridiculous.
so ugly.

I used to work with a guy from Argentina who was a Boca supporter. He said going to the bombonera was a lesson in the most base displays of human behavior he'd ever seen. people who piss at the top of the steep stadium so it would cascade down on the more expensive seats (he said poo too). constant piss, poo and other things hurled down on the richer people and field.

boca should either be out of competitions for a long time, or play in front of an empty stadium for a long time. that was horrific.

btw- that kind of insanity (usually kept on the field, or just in the stands) is why the copa libertadores is one of my favorite things to watch.

Boro up 1-0 at half, 3-1 aggregate and looking a strong favorite to meet the Norwich/Ipswich winner in the playoff final. Promotion to the PL is valued at approximately £120mil to each of the three promoted clubs.

Spanish speakers, please translate for me.

Este lunes conferencia del #LAFC donde anunciarian el lugar para construir su estadio en Exposition Park & Sports Arena, #MLS
#LAFC conference Monday announcing the place where to build the stadium in Exposition Park & Sports Arena, #MLS

google did that. there might be some subtext concerning poo and pepper-spray.

This would skyrocket the chances for the US to host in 2026 but this is FIFA so we know what that means

FIFA president Sepp Blatter wants a rule on World Cup hosting that would prevent Europe from bidding for the 2026 tournament.

The FIFA executive committee could agree this month to block continental confederations from bidding for the next two World Cups after hosting.

"It should be this way," Blatter told reporters on Friday, adding that the proposal is "more than an option."

Because Russia will host in 2018, a UEFA country would next be eligible for the 2030 World Cup. Russia defeated a bid from England and joint bids from Spain and Portugal as well as Netherlands and Belgium for 2018.

South Korea, Japan and Australia all bid for the 2022 World Cup given to Qatar, but as members of the Asian Football Confederation they would have to wait until 2034 to host.

Highlight of the first half was the announcer saying something along the lines of "There's no danger of an attractive football match breaking out here."

Ok

After spending time in Barcelona last week (including visiting the FC in Barcelona), I really want to start getting more into footy.

I try to follow the EPL as best I can.

Here's my problem - I have absolutely know idea how to understand wtf is going on...

So I'm going to ask a bunch of questions, and ask that you be patient with my follow up answers...

I tried reading how it works on wikipedia, and it's unbelievably confusing to a novice

The UEFA is the what? Governing body for all of the European Leagues? Is a "League" essentially a Country? Where can I find a list of what each country calls their "league"?

Does the major UEFA tourney (that's going on now) take place DURING each country's League play?

Let's take the EPL as an example since I'm most familiar with it. For example: Newcastle might be playing Liverpool on a Tuesday, but if Liverpool is in the top 4 of the EPL, they might also be playing Bayern from Germany later that week for the UEFA cup? This is where I'm really hazy. About how both league play and UEFA tournament play is apparently going on at the same time. Where do the top 4 come from if that's the case? Is it the previous season's top 4 or the current season? If it's the current season, what happens if the top 4 in the EPL changes in the middle of the big UEFA tournament?

What's the time frame for League play and the UEFA? Is the League play essentially going on year round or is there a break?

Have there been any recent examples of a club rising up from the 8th or 9th league down the ladder to make it all the way to the top of a premier league? Any in history? This format interests me and it might be fun to read about an actual example.

Which country is considered to have the best league? Spain, England and Germany seem to most talked about from my viewpoint.

I'll probably have more questions.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time out to help me here. This is really interesting to me and I'd like to learn about it.
