Hopefully the logic is...

Attacking player in offside position + (clear attempt to play ball OR ball is close OR impacts a defensive player)

I know I'm on an island on this, but the offense should never be allowed ANY advantage that emerges due to an offside player IMO.

This is the image they used to describe it (not "ors")

I guess this came up in the Liverpool v. Bournemouth match and so they have a couple of still shots showing a player in an off-side position, trying to play a ball, that impacts the goalie.

TFC's first time in the playoffs and it's not even on American TV in English....
Yes and no.

As part of the new tv deal, Univision controlled the national rights for all the playin games.

But all you need to do is press the SAP button to get the English broadcast when watching on Unimas/UDN
I'm not sure I get these channels. I know I don't get Unimas. Not sure about UDN.

That said, I didn't realize I could hit the SAP button and get it in English.

Also, I respect that I may be in the minority in this thread, but I found it more difficult to just find MLS games this year. We get MSG so I tend to watch a lot of Red Bulls games, but I just found it hard to really connect and watch a lot of games from other teams. I saw maybe a handful of TFC games this entire season, which sucks because they're actually good for once. I suppose I should start subscribing to the Soccer America email list. It was just easier to stumble onto a game when I'd turn on a TV and check ESPN2 or NBCSN or even Fox Soccer and there'd just happen to be a game on. And a lot of the ESPN2 games this year tend to be late starts, 10:30 PM ET or something. I feel like I have to seek out MLS more than years ago, which is odd because the game only seems to be growing.

This post is ironic since MLS and the broadcasters killed themselves to be consistent this year with the new TV deal

This is the first year of the new TV deal and they had very consistent time slots. So if you were looking for random games on a Saturday nationally, you would never find them.

Unimas/UDN showed a game every Friday night

ESPN/ESPN2 showed a game every Sunday at 5:00pm

FS1 showed a game every Sunday at 7:30pm

It was a doubleheader every Sunday for almost the entire season.

ESPN would also show an odd Wednesday night game but that was in the vast minority.

what cable/satellite system do you have, and where are you located? I can look for you to see if they have them. Those two channels show a ton of soccer, especially UDN.

I didn't know this. For some reason I still never think to check Fox Sports 1 for anything unless I KNOW what I am looking for is on the channel. It's not like ESPN or ESPN2 where I'll sometimes turn it on just to see if I'm interested in it. 5 PM Sundays is usually not a time I'm watching TV so that explains why I only saw a handful of MLS games at that time slot.

Usually I'd be sitting around Saturday afternoon or evening and hope to find an MLS game and never could unless the Red Bulls are on. I miss the Thursday night MLS on ESPN2 in the summer...used to love that.

Time Warner Cable in Buffalo, NY. Unimas didn't show up in the channel listing. UDN shows up in the listing but I don't know if I get the channel, #444. Will have to check it out when I'm at home. We have the basic digital cable package, not sure if that's included or not.

The bold was on purpose this year.

The league and broadcasters wanted to separate the national games to be more stand alone. In years past, games would be shown on a Saturday when there were 6 other MLS games going on and they finally realized the obvious that fans would watch their local side over the national game.

So instead of splintering an already small audience, they decided to make a shift. It worked fantastic (ratings wise) for the most of the year until the NFL started which killed the Sunday audience.

Oh that is too bad. UniMas is carried by TWC nationally but for what ever reason it is not included in your choices.

I can see that.

In general though, it is worth noting that for the next many years, FS1 and FS2 are going to be showing a TON more soccer than ESPN/ESPN2 will be.

In fact, much of what ESPN will show is sub leased from Fox contracts.

So a goal like Herrera's last season, where Rooney skips out of the way and therefore is not trying to play the ball, is still a legal goal it seems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nfZXFQltUg

Liverpool playing pretty well overall...Chelsea still trying to play like they're a buttoned-up defense once they get the lead, but they just aren't.

I like how Clattenberg is calling the game. Maybe could have given a 2nd yellow to Can for the accumulation of fouls on Willian and I think Terry handled, but don't mind the no calls either way.

One thing I've noticed about Sakho that I really like is that he doesn't always take the simple sideways pass or look just for the DM in front of him. If there's a cutting pass on to an attacking player he'll play it forward.

Liverpool look more solid than I've thought in awhile. Early goal aside they haven't had big defensive breakdowns and they're playing the ball out of trouble really well with quick passing. Still need someone to score some goals but if they played like this all the time they'd be OK.

(Said in the 64th minute, while fearful of late, shambolic throwing away of points.)

ETA: very entertaining game.

Whoever was defending Sakho a while back (Scooby?) was right. He moves around like a drunken lobster but he's really solid. What a fun game to start the weekend.

Is Hazard even playing?
Subbed for Kennedy at about 60 minutes.
Seems more involved now than he was in the first half.
I suspect that he has a severe case of "Don'tgivea####itis." He's got one eye on Madrid.

Still, in the list of things wrong with Chelsea, he's still behind the fact that an entire backline of seasoned defenders have all forgotten how to defend at the same time. If I'm Chelsea, I dangle Oscar to PSG and hope to get Marquinhos or something. That backline needs a complete reboot.

The left back Azpeshheysialwnetega is pretty decent - the rest have been ####.

Nope, I hammered his distribution last season. He's definitely cleaned that up, and he's always been a good covering defender. Still don't think Chelsea really tested them much. Let's be honest, Chelsea's goal came because Moreno stood with his thumb up his ### on a cross.

"You're getting sacked in the morning" is great fun, but I hope Mourinho doesn't actually get the boot. The EPL is better with him and I'd like to see what he does from here.

I didn't think Chelsea's d looked so bad today. Ok shape. But they still let in 3.

I just don't see where they're generating their offense. Hazard and cesc were masters, and now bupkis.

Lol.. Nothing to say. Nothing. Nothing to say.

Nothing they can do until January imo

Defense got old quickly - Jose tried to fix that by buying Stones. Everton balked, and Chelsea are going to struggle most of the year.

On one hand, Coutinho had one of those Coutinho games where he seems unplayable at times.

But they let Liverpool have 65% of the ball after getting their goal. Which is fine, but the center backs just weren't getting tight enough. Cahill gave Benteke way too much space on the third goal.

I get the impression Skrtel and Costa are like Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf -- it's all in the job.

Oddschecker has Liverpool and Chelsea both at roughly 40% to take the last CL spot, with Tottenham around 20%.
