I don't think any away draw is a shock result in African soccer. The return legs of the tie are on a quick turnaround next week. None of the big countries are in huge jeopardy if they take care of business at home. The knockout format does leave the door open for an early fluky elimination.
The only semi-notable home loss was an Adabayorless Togo giving up an away goal by Uganda. Uganda has a higher FIFA ranking for whatever that's worth.

The Comorian squad are mostly from lower division French clubs but midfielder Jimmy Abdou was voted Millwall's player of the year last season. They don't appear to play many matches; FIFA.com shows two friendlies in 2012 and no games at all in 2013.

My daughter was supposed to go to the game tonight to see her boy Griezmann but her friend flaked out right before she was going to buy tickets last weekend. (The cheap seats were EU55 BTW) So she ended up watching it from a bar on the Left Bank. The last text she sent me before news of the attacks was to ask whether the FMNT had any more friendlies at Stade de France before she comes back. There is one more scheduled: Mar 29 vs Russia. Man, I hope they move that fixture anywhere.

just reading on ESPN that Lass Diarra lost a cousin in the attacks.
and yeah... that one of the bombers had tickets to the game and got caught/frisked outside trying to get in. not getting in is a silver lining, I guess. :(

Garber gave a long interview today with some very interesting comments. The best part for me is something all fans have been begging for. And that is to stop worrying about being the best league in the world and worry more about being the best in CONCACAF first, which means catching Liga MX.

You have owners that are coming in that really believe in the sport, broadcasters that do, youth development that’s thriving, players that want to play here from abroad. Our national team coaches aren’t ####ting on our league as much as they used to.”

Also Garber said that the league will soon be announcing that St Phil will be selling one of his two teams (he owns the Galaxy and 50% of the dynamo). Garber did not say which team was for sale.

World events made it really easy to avoid spoilers for yesterday's game so I watched Bosnia-Herz v. Ireland today. When they started the game it looked like the San Siro after a big pre-match pyrotechnics show but the fog kept growing thicker and thicker. By the second half, the high camera could sort of pick out the blue home shirts but the Irish team and the ball faded into Bolivia. It wasn't pretty for obvious reasons but it was a good result for Ireland heading into the home leg.

This is the final game for both Raul and Marco Senna's careers. By all accounts, they've been heads down, get the job done as the season wrapped up. Really pissed at myself for not seeing either play.

Was a cool moment. Dad came back on a few minutes later and they got to have a few interchanges with the ball. Son Becks even took a corner which Dad Becks got his head on, too bad it went over. Fun game to watch, lot of great players and entertainment. Scholes had more shots on goal in the first half then United has had in like 3 games. He and Ronoldinho look like they could still play in the EPL.
Which hand did it hit? Hard to tell in the vine. Hard to imagine a handball call if it was off his right hand tucked into his body. His left hand would be a PK and potentially a card.

As I was reading that, I could not help but think an MLS communications job would be perfect for him as he has been around the league since day 1, but then I got to the paragraph where he tried that route :(
Journalism is a rough gig these days.....

Yeah, I can't help but think he pissed off someone somewhere and got black balled in the soccer world. He's also hamstrung since he seems tied to the NJ coast area and frankly there aren't a ton of jobs in that area unless you want to commute into the NYC area and doesn't seem up (or frankly want to be up) on Twitter/Facebook etc.
95% of the writers job these days is self-promotion and if you don't want to actively do that, you're sort of screwed.

I guess it depends on what he struggles with.
If he can't delegate or even just understand the technology then he would be dead but most of the people who work in the front offices are rarely on social media representing the club. They tend to funnel that through one employee for facebook and twitter and instagram.
I know more about the Revs for instance than most humans alive but I could barely name 25% of the communications department.

I can't imagine how the MLS players union must feel reading about the panel where the three MLS owners (including Kraft of all people) all agreed the cap has to be significantly raised so that they can improve the full roster and not just have high end talent playing with scrubs.

I only root against one team in qualifying and sadly I have to report that Qatar has comfortably moved on to round 3 in Asian Qualifying.
Asia Round 3 will be 2 groups of 6. Top 2 from each group move on while the 3rd place team from each group moves into a playoff stage that will culminate in playing the 4th place team from the Concacaf hex.
