It would be great to see Hungary make a run in this tournament, for old time's sake.  What's the Hungarian drink again?...#likeitmatters#; #excuses#.

Anyone else watching the Austria- Hungary game?  The Hungarian keeper with his gray sweat pants and bald head looks like they pulled him off a pub team.  Pure awesomeness.

Edit to add this:

I am pretty sure he is my new favorite player ever:  http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/06/14/hungary-goalie-gabor-kiraly-sweatpants-photos

Probably better than one of his Chelsea shirts now that I think about it. Still sucks. I love this club because they have Two Hearted on tap and wifi.

I love  your devotion to your #MONEY GRABBING#  club..JK...you might get a lot of grief in here, but I respect your commitment.  You are an educated fan, (which is more than I can say for myself) & very knowledgeable...  You have Conte,  & we don't have Pjanic...(I still say Conte has to change lineup...you'll see his irascible self soon enough).  Buon Fortuna.

This LA open cup game appears to have literally zero spectators. There is not one single person in the stands.
Update: one dude has showed up in the north end doing the captain morgan over the back of a chair. Unclear at this point if he is a spectator or a bored security guard who has abandoned his post.

I had to move a piano on short notice.  The movers I got were two young, buff Russians in Russia jerseys.  They asked me if they needed to wrap up the piano bench (which was already scuffed up).  I said, "Nah, treat it like an England fan."   A good laugh was had by all.

I take it you weren't wearing your tight Liverpool kit?

Looks like a crazy night in the US Open Cup where 3 games have gone to pks and one other decided in extra time.

DC lost to Ft Lauderdale, Chicago beat Indy, and Dallas beat OKC on PK's.  KC beat Minnesota in extra time

The smallest team left in the Cup is a team called Kitsat Pumas from the PDL (generally considered the highest level amateur league in the country).   They are level with Seattle going into the second half.

Add NE Carolina to the list of extra time games tonight as New England won 1-0.

Seattle ends the run of Kitsat Pumas with a 2-0 win tonight.

@Kafka you may be entertained to learn that somebody has put down a crapload of money with the English books for Rudi Garcia to become the next Southampton manager. He's suddenly the 6-5 favorite.

Gervinho in red and white stripes is a troubling mental image indeed.  :lmao:
He's donned the red & white in England before, & I'm sure the resident Arsenal fans in here can attest to his not-so-sublime brilliance...his game is about as nuanced as his forehead.

The Union needed stoppage time vs the 10 man City Islanders (former USL affiliate alert) to pull out the win last night as well.

Hey Philly fans, were you aware of this issue?  I had liked what I had seen of him as a player.  Any idea what the ailment is?  This looks like a pretty big loss for the team out of no where.

Earnie Stewart on Nogueira departure: "He couldn't cope with it anymore''

CHESTER, Pa. -- On Wednesday night, Vincent Nogueira played 73 minutes in the Philadelphia Union’s 3-2 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders in a fourth-round US Open Cup game.

It was a typically efficient game for Nogueira, who has quietly been one of the team’s most important players as a string-pulling, deep-lying midfielder.

But something was not right.

And after long conversations with members of the Union technical staff following the game, the club and midfielder mutually agreed to part ways Thursday because of an undisclosed personal health issue.

“We had some long conversations yesterday after the game -- well actually, a week ago already,” Union sporting director Earnie Stewart told MLSsoccer.com by phone. “But he let us know yesterday that it came to a point where he couldn’t cope with it anymore and we had to take action.”

Stewart said that Nogueira was scheduled to return to France Thursday night, marking an abrupt end to his two-and-a-half year tenure in Philly. But the team’s first-year sporting director gave an assurance that Nogueira’s health issue will not end his soccer career and that he’ll be OK away from the field.

“This is something he’s dealt with before,” Stewart said. “He definitely will play soccer. That’s not so much the problem. It’s not in that area.”
