On Jose - he’s who I wanted them to bring in when SAF retired. It made sense and he seemed like the only personality that could take the job on. Instead they tried to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time with Moyes. Once they got around to Jose it was too late and it seemed obvious they were a little desperate. Now that they gave Ole the job you have to give him a little time, IMO. Unless he’s a disaster this year you give him a couple of signing windows.
On this season - no shot at the title - they are at best 4th and that would be a good finish for OGS.
Are there any websites that let you track players' club activity by nationality? For example, if I'm a fan of the Swedish National Team, I'd be able to get a list of all the Swedish national-eligible players in the top couple of levels in leagues around the world, view their stats and game logs, sort by stats or by position, see who has upcoming games in the next day or two, etc.

If I wanted to scour a list of stats for all Swedish LBs, including 17 year olds who are riding the bench in the Dutch 2nd Division...Fotmob would allow me to do that? I haven't registered, so I might not be seeing all the features, but looks like I can either get info on National teams or Club teams, but not search clubs by national eligibility.

When I searched for Sweden there was 5 mens teams (9 total). Each team has the full squad listed by player, clicking a player gives you all relevant stats and the option to follow a player. I follow Emil Forsberg (#DIEROTENBULLEN). The app alerts me when he starts, when he scored, and with guys match rating. Itas what you need.

Fox Deportes is reporting that Miami has signed Edinson Cavani and he will join the team next summer.
If true that should be a nice compliment to the very young South American players Miami has already signed.

Never thought of him coming here...solid player but who always struck me as up and down. That said, I've never seen him as a slacker type...feel like hes usually full tilt, which should translate well.

Details are kind of crazy. Not only did he scream the homophobic slur at the officials during the game, he sought them out in the tunnel with a FAN MADE SIGN with the slur after the game.
I will miss his sweater game.
Week one premier league musings…
First off, the obligatory, VAR absolutely sucks and is going to destroy the beautiful game. Stated it in my preview and oh, it took no time at all to rear it’s ugly head. On the City goal ruled offside, I get it that they have all these fancy graphics and dotted red and blue lines. But, according to the replay it was offside by a hairline, in fact I don’t think you could have put the two dotted lines any closer together, and the fact is I don’t recall a graphic where they showed the instant that the ball was struck to where they made the offside call. A millisecond difference would have made it onside ffs. And the second goal that was ruled onside (which to my naked eye looked off tbh), the graphic had a dotted curved effing line ffs. But whatever on those. The absolute worst of calls however was the “handball” that led to the Wolves goal. It took me 3 replays to final see the ricochet of the ball off the top of the arm and there was nothing that could be done. Clear and obvious my ###, this VAR is just going to nitpick every aspect of the game and take goals away from a sport which is already lacking in scoring. And it frankly disrupts the spirit of the game. There was also another goal disallowed in Atlanta where someone pushed off on a corner. Again a very marginal call, the hands were on the back, yes, but the defender fell down as if a sniper was in the crowd – so the 70,000 or so strong were erupting after a goal, only to be silenced a full 5 minutes later on. Stupid. And p.s. if the gk’s are going to be glued to the line this year, I can’t see a PK saved, just a random miss.
I watched four games this weekend and briefly, Man City is a ####### machine. Only team in the league I can fully expect to win 4, 5 – nil each week. Rodri fit right in and was brilliant. KDB, Sterling, both great. I’m not sure West Ham had a full on chance on goal all game long. Not much more to say here, this was one way traffic for pretty much 90 minutes.
Spurs/Villa game was fun. Villa was great the first half, and had the deserved lead. But second half was a different story, and Villa is going to have to figure out how to hold onto the ball a bit more and play a full game if they want to stay up. Ericksen came on and the difference was made. Spurs were also without Son but should be at full strength for next week vs City. That will be a key early fixture. I am still cautiously optimistic about Villa though – with such turnover it is expected to take some time for this team to find it’s best form. Defense actually looked quite capable and I think this team will be tougher to score on going forward.
Arsenal/Newcastle was not as fun. Arsenal rolling out a lot of younger players, and were without the likes of Lacazette and Luiz. Pepe came on late and showed a few glimpses, but the real problem in this game is Newcastle is ####. Almiron was pathetic with his diving antics. Joelinton was barely given any service. Arsenal’s defense is suspect at best yet Newcastle wasn’t able to do anything. Fans are already protesting by not showing up, this is going to be ugly come the holidays. I didn’t see anything positive from the homes side.
ManUnited/Chelsea was a cracker. I’m sure most everyone saw the game. Obviously the score line was slightly misleading as Chelsea hit the post a few times and squandered some nice opportunities, but once United scored the second goal it was really game over. On the United side (since let’s face it that’s all we really care about), it was a pretty solid performance. I was pleasantly surprised with Maguire as he had just a week with the squad and led everyone in interceptions and clearances. Was capable with the ball at his feet, and going forward, I think the CB pairing with Lindelof will be pretty decent. Luke Shaw is downright fat. He picked up a knock, maybe Dalot will get some playing time as I think he’s a much more dynamic player at this point anyway. AWB looked very good indeed – much nicer having him out there than Ashley Young (although I am a Young defender and I feel he gets picked on much more for his deficiencies than his strengths are properly respected). And I am very happy McTomminay started over Matic – as I think his athleticism is key. Matic would have been the safer choice, sure, but Ole is slinging it, so good on him. I’d like to see a 2/3 McTomminay, 1/3 Matic split this year. Lingaard ran all over the place and was okay. Same with Perreira, but neither of these two are all that good. But as Pogba goes, so does United and he was fine. Rashford was very dangerous, Martial not as much. But the team has options going on this year. This was a good start. Unfortunately this will probably be the highlight of their year.

I agree with the VAR criticism of the city goal. Based on the lines drawn It looked like he was offside by an armpit. Didn't know you could score with an armpit without hitting your arm. To me thats even and hes on. Goal. Absolutely ridiculous.guru_007 said:
I agree with your assessment of United v Chelsea. Chelsea were the better team for long stretches and were unlucky to not have scored. Pedro and Pulisic on opposite sides may actually be fun to watch. Chelsea came out firing in the 1st 15-20 mins, were slowed a bit by the PK but could have gone in at the half up 2-1. United were not sharp, which was somewhat expected due to game 1, but once they got the goal and settled they started to press and counter. Everyone went and I saw effort and passion. Something that had been missing. If they can sharpen up a bit through the middle of the pitch and maintain the passion and pace, they will make some noise.
United's lineup was good with the exception of Lingard. He works hard but is an ave at best player. Andreas P worked just as hard as he does, is a better passer and more positionaly sound. He just needs the game time to settle. If Lingard is your wing, AWB is going to have a lot more work to do. I think he can handle it though but still. I feel like AWB looked like what they hoped Bailly would be. The back line was better and De Gea looked focused and happy. Shaw is lazy I think. Good when he wants to be, gets forward well, but can get lost in the game. Still better then Young. I like that Tuanzbee was on the bench over Smalling, rojo and Jones. For game 1 I thought Ole waited too long to sub, Lingard needed to come off before Andreas P. Mostly since Lingard was pushing for a 2nd yellow. McT had a good game and should pair with Pogba nicely. The interchange between Martial, Rashford, Andreas was fun to watch. Hopefully James can settle and make the right wing his own.

He issued his first public statement today since the suspension and subsequent firing. He insinuated he is likely to sue the club.

Poch dropped Vertonghen from the team in week 1 - supposedly as a message for not training hard enough. We will see if he makes the squad against City - I suspect he has lost a step and is taking a little bit longer to get back into game-shape.
Lo Celso trained with the team yesterday, so I expect he will start on the bench against City. (Sessegnon is still nursing a hamstring injury he picked up this summer)
Biggest question mark is still Eriksen - If he starts, who do you drop - Winks or Lamela. (That is a question that will be dictated by formation.) There is one other possibility that has been floated - moving Sissoko to RB for this match (to avoid Sterling v. Kyle Walker-Peters), which would leave Ndombele paired with Winks, and Erkisen, Lamela and Lucas playing behind Kane.

Based on last week's game, Eriksen's situation needs to be sorted quickly. Either he signs a new contract and stays or sell him. The team looked so much better with him in the game. Granted Villa had been chasing the game for 60+' and was wearing down, but Eriksen was the one pulling the strings for the 3 goals.
Eriksen should start this week. I can't see Lo Celso being ready to start or contribute significantly so soon.
I really didn't like Lamela at the top of the diamond. If Dele was healthy he would start there, but Lamela seems better suited out wide.
