Three London clubs lifting a trophy this season?! Tough year for Gunner fans...
They had more points last year than Liverpool finished with this year. So pretty much the same thing as a trophy.
I do think most Gunners fans are pretty bitterly disappointed with the team this year. It's not being second so much. It's finishing with 72 points. I don't see how you can argue that was a good showing even in a league with a lot of parity. It reminds me of the Leicester title season in that the rest of the league was down and it was Arsenal's chance and they blew it (to be clear, this Liverpool team is much better than that Leicester team and I think Liverpool could have gotten to 90 points if they had felt any urgency at all).

It's also the feeling of the team not investing in areas that every Arsenal fan knows they need to invest in. The team does not have a potential 30 goal striker. We've known that for three years and we're still starting years hoping Kai Haavertz can stay healthy and productive and that Saka can make a leap to a truly elite player.

This off season, they are widely believed to be taking their pick of Gyorkes or Sesko, but we're already hearing talk of Gyorkes (certainly the more productive player of the two candidates) going elsewhere. And because Sesko still feels like a guy with more potential than production, I can easily see the team "stuck" with him as the option and then being reluctant to pull the trigger because his price is too high with Red Bull knowing Arsenal need him.
Looks like Sesko is their target and have started talks. Per Fabrizio anyway. Delap to Chelsea

Will be watching what happens with Gyorkes all while hoping the rumors of Hojlund+33M for Osimhen has some truth to it. I could get excited with this lineup:
Osimhen
Cuhna Mbeuno
Dorgu Bruno Ugarte Amad
Heaven De Ligt Yoro

Or

Osimhen
Cuhna Bruno
Dorgu Mainoo Ugarte Amad
Heaven De Ligt Yoro

Just need a GK!

Should be an interesting final two matches for the EPL and the top 7 places. Or at least 2-7...
6 pts between them and several playing each other.

Arsenal 68 pts - Newcastle, @ Southampton
Newcastle 66 pts - @Arsenal, Everton
City 65 pts - Bournemouth, @ Fulham (plus FA Cup Final v Palace)
Chelsea 63 pts - United, @ NF
Aston Villa 63 pts - Tottenham, @ United
NF 62 pts - @ West Ham, Chelsea

Villa having to play the 16th and 17th place teams would normally be an advantage. But when those teams are United and Spurs and are playing in the Europa final between the two matches, anything could happen without rhyme or reason.
Ready for the final weekend???

Arsenal 71 pts, +34 - @ Southampton
City 68 pts, +26 - @ Fulham
Newcastle 66 pts, +22 - Everton
Chelsea 66 pts, +20 - @ NF
Aston Villa 66 pts, +9 - @ United
NF 65 pts, +13 - Chelsea

Chelsea v NF looks to be the big matchup. Everyone else should win theirs. Here's hoping Fulham comes to play!

Just saw this! Didn’t end up being a spoiler, but glad to see Everton fight to the end.

Yeah, we'll see how long the Moyesiah lasts back home at Everton.

Really wanted Forest to end on a better note after holding on for so long.

Somewhat spoilerish in that the loss knocked Newcastle to fifth. With a draw or win they would have finished fourth, for whatever that’s worth.

With top 5 going to CL, only worth the added bump in prize money. Couple mil maybe?

BREAKING: This is news coming straight out of Ronaldo's camp, but the legendary #CR7 is poised for a move to MLS in the summer! The top club pushing hard is #LAGalaxy. His camp is currently looking for a deal similar to that of the Messi one.

Galaxy have been awful this year, making this even more perfect.

Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz seem done or mostly done at this point. That might be the best summer window in a long time by itself.

Really curious what the next shoes to drop are. Dreamland would be a true backup for Salah, someone who can play across the front line, a 6/8, and VvD's eventual successor.

Also I'd love to see Chiesa stay and be healthy. 90% sure he'd settle in with any sort of decent run in the side.

Chicago made announcement today about new stadium.

Early Rendering

Statement on not wanting public funding
Does anybody know Chicago? Their rendering makes it seem downtownish, which seems amazing. I really like the old-school, urban-fabric look and feel of it... Not every building or stadium needs to be a stand alone "icon" building that has nothing to do with what's around it .

from google, it appears the area (The 78) is considered is south of downtown Chicago and north of Chinatown.

The Fire fans say there is good public transportation to this area, both train and water taxis.

Seems like an area that has big plans for the future.

This in the south loop and is easily accessible and convenient. It's far better than the old Toyota Park / SeatGeek location which was a great facility but rediculously inconvenient - in Bridgeview, over ten miles outside Chicago. It's not far from Soldier Field where they play now but much easier to get to by public transportation. Soldier Field has lots of problems and one of them is getting into and especially out of the stadium area.

This looks to be the exact parcel of land. Front page of paper

The Athletic is reporting that Chelsea will pay MUFC the £5m contract fee to terminate Sancho's loan. I think they'll be looking for yet another winger this season.
Looks like he didn't want to come down on his wage demands and he isn't good enough to be making that much, so Chelsea said go back to the bottom of the table.

Will be interesting to see if any bids come in for him and if his wage demands become reasonable.

Meanwhile the Krafts just sit back and cackle

==========

Joe Mansueto has continually used his own 💰 to put the @chicagofire in a better position:

- Paid ≈$70m to break lease in Bridgeview.
- Paid ≈$100m to build downtown training facility.
- Will pay ≈$650m to build new downtown stadium... NEAR PUBLIC TRANSIT

I would have been fine with it either way, but it’s not my money. By all accounts he had a great attitude and he scored a few fantastic goals including one in the Conference League final and a banger against Spurs. I’m sure you’re right though - they offered him a deal on lower wages but couldn’t find common ground.

I am curious if he could thrive as one of the two 10s in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 but with Cunha, Bruno and maybe MBuemo taking those two spots I'd rather get some £'s for him and move on. Let him find a happier spot and reignite his career. Sounds like he's about the money and not his career though.

Same deal for Antony and Rashford. Get some £'s for them and move on. Antony should stay at Betis, Rashford needs to find his happy place.

Funny, non-serious.... yet actually kinda serious answer..... Pulisic would be an excellent fit in Maresca's system. LOL.

Would be hilarious if Chelsea brought him back then played him in the Club World Cup.

If anyone is thinking of buying tickets to a Club World Cup game this summer, I recommend you hold off to the last possible moment. With the ticket price being ridiculously high, ticket sales have been terrible so far and FIFA is now starting to slash ticket prices. My guess is this will continue until somebody starts buying the tickets.

Nah... Sterling will fill that role ;)

Wanted to go ahead and get some good seats for the Bayern one but we should also have some knockout games in Charlotte I'll be tracking.

I bought round of 16 match early on and now we have a family beach trip. Had them listed for sell at a loss and they’ve just sat. If anybody has interest PM me and I’ll give you a great deal.

The last time Portugal beat Germany, Sérgio Conceição scored a hat trick in the 2000 Euros

Today, his son Chico scored the first goal in Portugal's first win over the Germans since that match
That is pretty cool.

Germany looked like complete garbage in the second half today. Just terrible.
That made watching the match difficult. The announcers orally servicing Ronaldo whenever the ball came near him made it even worse.

The following teams have now qualified for the WC in 2026.

UEFA: None yet (16 teams will qualify)

Spurs win their first trophy in nearly 20 years, sack their manager. Seems about right.
Pouring one out for Big Ange.

I mean, I kind of get it. He finished 17th. And there were a lot of injuries, but they did spend plenty in the market the last two years. I'd have been inclined to give him another year, but I also think the path to the top four keeps getting tougher.

Ange did say he wins trophies in his second season, which he did. The 4D chess move is to then rehire him, so Spurs win another trophy in 2 years......

Lots going on at Spurs.

Obviously Ange out, Frank is expected to be named as early as today. Also sacked the Women's head coach.

Spurs have a new CEO who just started last week.

One of Spurs long-time board members stepped down last week - she was considered the right-hand woman for Levy.

Spurs had a new non-executive board member appointed in March - Peter Charrington - who also happens to be the recently appointed Trustee of the Lewis Family Trust, which is the entity that ultimately owns Spurs. This is the first time that a trustee has been named to the board - suggesting that Lewis family wanted another look at how the club is run.

There is currently a lot of rumors swirling that Levy himself could stand down by the end of the summer (or sooner), with new investors coming in. The speculation is that the Lewis family wants to sell, and believe that Levy has been hampering those efforts.

As a fan - I think it was the right call to sack Ange, and I am looking forward to the Thomas Frank era. It think he will be a surprisingly good fit at Spurs, and can get them competing back near the top of the table this season.

The Club World Cup continues to have some problems. FIFA have dramatically cut prices again as the opener has only sold 25 so far.

A bigger problem looms as the MLS players (and most importantly for FIFA, Miami included), are currently in a deep fight with the MLS owners about pay for CWC. The owners are doing the "well you signed the CBA" dance which limits MLS players to a pittance of the reward money coming to MLS teams. And the players are saying it was impossible to predict something like this when they signed.

As far as the bigger sporting picture, this could also cause issues for the actual World Cup and the Olympics. Would FIFA or the IOC look to move either event if this causes trouble for foreign teams or fans?

There was a Cuban player who did not travel from the US to his WCQing game because he was afraid he would not be allowed back in the country.

Trump seems well aware how big both the WC and Olympics are but things are spinning so badly out of control it would not shock me if there are some disasters next summer.

If anything goes wrong during the CWC I could see talk of pulling either competition. If things continue to escalate over the next year who knows what could happen.

On a different note, got an email about being able to get multigame packages for the WC. $5k+ per person for a 4 game package, with 2 of those games required to be midweek.
