I liked the episode, but not as much as the rest of you it seems. I guess it's good get get all this backstory on Mike, but there was not nearly enough Saul in this one for me.
I look at it totaly different. I'm displeased that they named the show with a focus on Saul. I'd be thrilled if they focus was on Mike going forward. Saul/Bob are great and it's not like the show has been bad to this point. That said Mike/Johnathan are on a different level.
AMC has agreed to another spinoff called Half Measures with a BB prequal focus on Mike

ok, im just kidding
Now that you mentioned it, I could see them doing a show on Tuco's family and the Cartel with Gus as a young up and comer. Sort of a Mexican Godfather. Then again we may just see that play out in this show as Mike evolves to become Gus's muscle. This show has A LOT of potential. Wish I could just ignore it for a few years like I did BB and be able to watch episode after episode instead of being spoon fed week after week.

Yeah, Mr. krista and I were both puddles.

ETA: Thought Mr. krista, who is more erudite than I, immediately compared it to Hamlet's "O what a rogue and peasant slave am I . . ."
''I broke my boy.....''
That killed me.
Me too
Not me. I laughed and said "Mike's such a [p]ussy."
You little pot stirrer you

You go Mike!

But this was one of the instances where knowing Mike was on Breaking Bad worked against the storyline. Normally you'd think those cops might take him out.
it wasnt the fact it was a flashback that gave it away?
Lol
We knew for a fact before that scene that Mike killed those two?
Does it matter who killed them? We knew for a fact he was alive so nobody took him out.

Just like we'll know he'll continue being alive for the entire run of this show, since he was on Breaking Bad. Which, as you well know, was my point.

I watched Shameless and Saul back to back last night and between Lip's scene and Mike's scene I was blown away by the acting of those two.

How/why did DIL wind up in NM? Mike send her away? He plan this whole thing out? Doesn't seem like she has family there. Strange for a woman to pack up and move after her husband has died.

huh? Why is that strange to want to get a new beginning somewhere else?

I would think she'd want to stay in Philly until her husband's case was solved or at least until the body is cold. It's only been 6 months at that point (which would mean she left very nearly after he was killed).

Some things you just have to admit they are pigeon holed into. It's a bit of a leap, but you have to roll with it.

This seems like a good detail to obsess about.

Inquiring minds want to know! I'm thinking it's all part of Mike's grand plan. He was the genesis of what becomes the empire on BB. Toll booth? Come on! All part of the plan.

This show has so much potential and has the actors to back it up. The BB background allows it to go places other shows could not because it doesn't need to waste time.

Anyone else confused as to why his gun shot shoulder wound is still bleeding wayyyy after the event actually happened?
They said he left town the following week after his son died so that didn't surprise me.

I was kinda confused by the timing of the scenes. I'm assuming the train stop scene / backyard pushing kid in swing scene was weeks/months before he meets Jimmy/Saul. But the Philly cops don't talk to him until AFTER he meets Jimmy and has his matchbook?

Watched it last night. Great episode. I had no idea they were going to go this deep into Mike. This entire show has been pleasantly unexpected.

I'm a bit confused on the timeline as well.

I assume that this occurred:

1. His Son dies

2. A week later he leaves for New Mexico

3. In the span of a week or so he meets Saul and has a few run-ins

4. Philly cops show up 2 weeks after his son dies, and a week or so after the dirty cops die

Current time. But it does seem strange that all of Sauls progression as a lawyer/interactions with Mike have happened within a weeks span.

I thought Mike left for NM the day after shooting the dirty cops and dropped the line to the bartender at closing that he was leaving the next day for NM to leave a trail explaining why he was leaving (ie not skipping town after a murder but as part of long-standing plan). I heard the timeline as Mike killed the cops 6 months after his son is killed. The DIL left during that 6 months for NM and Mike arrived the day after the shooting with the still bleeding wound. I thought the scene at night with the DIL was months later just prior to the Philly cops interview. I seem to remember the cops mentioning working the case of the dirty cops for several months prior to coming out to NM. I may of missed something but this timeline would work mesh with what we have seen, giving Mike at least a couple months or so to work at the parking lot.

I thought the cops indicated he left town like the day after (so probably early morning hours). He definitely missed the funeral.

As for the gunshot, he couldn't go to the hospital and risk a record of the injury or someone getting ahold of the bullet if it wasn't s through and through. So yeah that thing needed to heal.

I cant believe they would leave out details like showing Mike filling out a job application for the ticket booth job, and then the interview, and the eventual hiring

I think this is right or close. Months passed by, not days or weeks.

They're cops, ie not the sharpest tools in the shed.

It took them a while to find Mike.

Did he have to fill out a personality survey? Drug test? I think a tracking shot of him placing his urine cup into the little window, closing the window, and then the nurse grabbing the urine on the other side could win an Emmy.

You thinking maybe Saul isn't the only one with a forged resume? Could be.
