Jimmy hasn't taken a bribe. He took a retainer. Hell, they even had him allocating portions of the money to various charges (e.g., research, filings).I don't think that's what he was doing. I think he was trying his best to stay within the law. By taking the money as a contingency he hasn't done anything wrong. By taking a bribe he crossed a line.Interesting that Jimmy really wanted the client more than the money, and only took the bribe when it became clear that wouldn't be possible.
Also, how long before Jimmy buys the white Caddy? I thought we might see it in this episode, but Gilligan and Co. are patient.
Really? Not buying the coincidence that Jimmy happened to be right there when the guy falls off the billboard. Lazy writing?

I said he wanted the client more than the money, not that he didn't want the money.kentric said:Jimmy wanted both the client and the money. He mentioned the money they offered would be considered a "retainer" to hire him. It was just a means of him making a money grab and it being considered "good" money.Jack White said:Interesting that Jimmy really wanted the client more than the money, and only took the bribe when it became clear that wouldn't be possible.

What gave it away? The complete lack of gratitude, or the "took you long enough!" quote?kentric said:p.s. it was pretty obvious that the scaffolding guy was a hire of Saul's, but that scene was fantastic.
I guess we'll find out. I took at he was mentally laundering the money.kupcho1 said:Jimmy hasn't taken a bribe. He took a retainer. I think you might be letting your knowledge of Saul during Breaking Bad get in the way here.If I have one complaint about the show so far it's the narrative that Saul is trying to stay straight and is overly concerned about what his brother thinks. I get his brother bailed him out and Saul made him a promise. But Saul if nothing else is a pragmatic guy and he sees his brother is a crackpot at this point.
I'm just not seeing the "fear" of being a letdown in his brothers eyes at this point.

His brother potentially has millions coming to him if the law firm pays him out. I think staying in his brothers god graces is more on his mind then letting him down. But Saul is so down and out. He can't wait on it anymore especially with no end in sight due to his brother wanting to return to the firm.If I have one complaint about the show so far it's the narrative that Saul is trying to stay straight and is overly concerned about what his brother thinks. My biggest complaint is that they skimp on the special effects. The pilot was the highest rated debut in cable history. AMC can't pump up the budget a bit?If I have one complaint about the show so far it's the narrative that Saul is trying to stay straight and is overly concerned about what his brother thinks. I think it's more that Saul wants to be like his brother was -- a successful and well-respected attorney who made a lot of money while staying above board. If I have one complaint about the show so far it's the narrative that Saul is trying to stay straight and is overly concerned about what his brother thinks. Really? When did this come out?All I know is I've really enjoyed it. Don't know if it's been pointed out but Saul was the sheriif in Fargo-the series-with Billy Bob Thorton as the hit man.
Whatever, damn good tv show! Fargo included.
He looked like Badger. The guy who ran off with the fake Rolex ... I know him. We used to hang out when we were eight. (The actor, not the character.)
The guy clearly loves his brother and cares about what he thinks. He moved to ABQ and followed in his footsteps, career-wise. He brings him groceries. Chuck is his wacko Jiminy Cricket in a space blanket.I think you might be letting your knowledge of Saul during Breaking Bad get in the way here.If I have one complaint about the show so far it's the narrative that Saul is trying to stay straight and is overly concerned about what his brother thinks. If there's one thing we know about Gilligan and Co. after 62 episodes of BB and four episodes of BCS, it's they they are exceedingly patient with their storytelling and character development.
I think this early in the story, it's believable that Jimmy is still very much concerned about what his brother thinks. If not, why hide the newspaper?

If you wanted to depict Jimmy's soul as a psychomachia, you'd have Chuck standing on one shoulder with a halo and feathery wings, and on the other shoulder is a guy with horns in a suit and orange shirt, named Saul Goodman. Their battle is the essence of the show.

Last year about this time. Fargo-Billy Bob Thorton- I'm guessing 10 episodes. Simply the best.
1 point less than True Detective on scale of 1 to 10(giving True Det. a 10).
