I believe that Bri beat you to the punch on this all QB Squad

#1 ranked team drafted 1 QB. Good luck with that, buddy.
This is just based on week 1. In Brees off week, he is in a heap of trouble.
Definitely interesting strategery here. 1 QB is the ultimate risk move, but with a week 5 bye, it could pay off as long as Brees stays healthy. Hurts a bunch that one of his stud WR's is also off that week too though. If someone would have done the solo QB idea with Favre in his prime, it would have been a money play.More interesting is the 6 kicker/4 def solution. definitely went with the "stud theory" on this team, and he should get nice points in the K/D slot every week. Personally, I would have liked this team more if he would have taken all the extra PK/D guys and made them into equally cheap WR's...

In at 729 this week and 98% survival....hopefully this is a good sign...

My guesses for how the contest will shake out:

The cut lines, after week 5, will be a full 5 points/week higher than last year, due to the extra 2 roster spots.
I think the cut lines will be a little lower this year, I don't think there will be the same number of cheap bargain players that will score big points and inflate the scores of everyone.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - 27QB - Matt Hasselbeck - 17RB - DeAngelo Williams - 37RB - Willie Parker - 16RB - LenDale White - 12RB - Felix Jones - 11RB - Edgerrin James - 1RB - Chris Brown - 1WR - Greg Jennings - 32WR - Marques Colston - 28WR - Kevin Walter - 14WR - Chris Henry - 12WR - Justin Gage - 8WR - Percy Harvin - 5WR - Laurent Robinson - 2TE - Owen Daniels - 13TE - Jermichael Finley - 3TE - Chris Baker - 1PK - Robbie Gould - 2PK - Sebastian Janikowski - 1PK - Steve Hauschka - 1TD - Washington Redskins - 3TD - Seattle Seahawks - 2TD - Oakland Raiders - 1
Simulator puts my team at #123. Not bad for spending a quick 10 minutes picking the team.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - 27 (5)

QB - Matt Ryan - 19 (4)

QB - Mark Sanchez - 9 (9)

=$55

(many have at least 1 of these guys on their roster. If all do well at different weeks having 3 might work)

RB - Ryan Grant - 24 (5)

RB - Marshawn Lynch - 22 (1,2,3,9)

RB - Chris Wells - 15 (4)

RB - Tim Hightower - 13 (4)

RB - Felix Jones - 11 (6)

RB - Bernard Scott - 2 (8)

RB - James Davis - 2 (9)

=$89

(Many had Grant, not many had Lynch who could be a difference maker if I make it. I don't think anyone had the Arizona backfield which could help me with longevity but might not help early. A BIG game by Felix could help get me past the grant owners. Hoping my depth here rather than WR helps later, but my WRs must stay healthy)

WR - Marques Colston - 28 (5)

WR - DeSean Jackson - 24 (4)

WR - Derrick Mason - 9 (7)

WR - Percy Harvin - 5 (9)

WR - Patrick Crayton - 4 (6)

WR - Josh Cribbs - 1 (9)

=$71

(These guys must stay healthy)

TE - Dustin Keller - 12 (9)

TE - John Carlson - 11 (7)

TE - Jermichael Finley - 3 (5)

=$26

(Keller and Carlson are big parts of the passing game)

PK - Josh Scobee - 2 (7)

PK - Robbie Gould - 2 (5)

=4

(I'm already regretting not buying 3 Kickers)

TD - San Francisco 49ers - 2 (6)

TD - Seattle Seahawks - 2

TD - Oakland Raiders - 1

=5

(Gotta figure 49ers might separate me from the pack if they have a good game)

I am shocked at how few teams have the full 24 players. This is a best ball format!

My guesses for how the contest will shake out:

Of the 250 teams that make the finals, more than half will roster the full 24 players.
The cut lines, after week 5, will be a full 5 points/week higher than last year, due to the extra 2 roster spots.
The team that wins it all will have at least 8 WR, and will not have a player on their roster over $32
23 (close enough)8WR- check

noone over 32- check

having more unique players.. yeah thats a bit of a problem..go romo?

swingin for the fences

I think it's kinda intersting that there's only 15 entries that are below 50% chance of surviving week one. Hope springs eternal for most at least for one week :)

-QG

2 questions I'll repeat here:1. Are any 2 entries exactly the same?2. Any estimates on the number of legal entries possible? I would imagine you would need to calculate the total number of possible combinations (ginormous) and then figure out what percentage would be legal (computer simulation I would think), and add up all the possibilities for 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 players.
well now you can go through 'em all, Hawk. Look for entries with the same simulated scores :) -QG

Ranked 104th.... not bad. Spent around 15 mins or so (hence some bye week issues :lmao: )
is there a search on this thing or do you have to wade through all the entries to find yours?
1 Find team number2 open link, hit edit and find on this page

3 type type team number in and it will take you to your entry
:goodposting: :goodposting: Not sure what this means. I opened a team, then subbed my team number into the url which brought up my team, but that didnt tell me where my team was projected to finish week 1 (which is what I am after) wading through 11,000 entries only to find mine is 11,001 isnt my idea of fun.

nevermind I figured it out, its late and I forgot about the find function. After I found my team number under my fbg, I opened a find function in the browser (cntrl+f) then put my team number in there. higlight all (only one listing for my team) tells me I am ranked 1,251 for week 1

Well I fell good about this team I used all $250 and filled all 24 spots, Also I went with risky picks but backed them with cheap back ups. Also I figured 4 kickers is better than 1 and I went with the two best D instead of 3 or 4 average Ds. Barring injury with Brees or acouple WR I think this is a contender.

QB - Drew Brees - 35

QB - Byron Leftwich - 4

RB - Brian Westbrook - 34

RB - Cedric Benson - 19

I don't think my team is unique enough to have a chance... but I do love my team number (100001)

Going into this contest I had a few objectives.

1) Use every roster spot. I think it's crazy to roll with a 20 man team. Your odds of having a bad week go up and the injury risk is even greater. The money savings between 20 and 24 players is not great enough to make it worth it in a best ball format.

2) Don't waste money on the top three to five players at any position. Now, I'm not saying that Tom Brady isn't worth $37. He's a fantastic fantasy player. But if Brady gets hurt or has a bad game, your margin for error is very slim.

3) Make sure I have enough players at each position. I think rolling with two QBs, Ks, or TEs is a huge risk here.

QB - Donovan McNabb - 24

QB - David Garrard - 18

QB - Byron Leftwich - 4

I think McNabb is going to have a big year, and I think he will outscore the three most expensive guys some weeks. Garrard isn't a cheap backup. But I don't like the thought of rolling with a Chad Pennington in case McNabb gets hurt for the year. Leftwich is a scrub, for sure. I don't even expect him to score for me, but I like having a third body there for injury insurance. Other players seriously considered: Schaub (concerned about his ability to stay healthy), Hasselbeck, Hill, Pennington, Flacco.

RB - Steve Slaton - 37

RB - Willie Parker - 16

RB - Leon Washington - 12

RB - Michael Bush - 6

RB - Sammy Morris - 4

RB - James Davis - 2

Slaton seems like a good value at $37. I think Willie Parker is the steal of this contest. I considered Mendenhall as a backup3, but I am not sold on him. Washington is a great value at $12. I had Hightower on my team, and really wanted to keep him, but couldn't. I think Bush and Morris will score for me on certain weeks and represent good value as TD vultures. I had Edgerrin James on my team for several days. But I thought that James Davis represented far more upside. Other players seriously considered: Westbrook, Jacobs, Julius Jones, Larry Johnson, Ray Rice.

WR - Roddy White - 33

WR - Chad Ochocinco - 27

WR - Chris Henry - 12

WR - Derrick Mason - 9

WR - Nate Burleson - 5

WR - Percy Harvin - 5

WR - Patrick Crayton - 4

Of all the big name WRs, Roddy White represented great value for me. I've spent big money on guys like Larry Fitzgerald before and regretted it. I think Ochocinco is a steal. I didn't intend to have two Bengal WRs on my team, but Chris Henry was a bargain. Frankly, I am surprised that people were willing to spend $7 more for Coles. Derrick Mason is a no-brainer, and could be the best value in this contest. Nate Burleson seems healthy, and I am certain he will score for me many times this year. Harvin is a popular choice in this contest, but I didn't know that going in. I think Crayton is a super value at $4. FF experts and the Cowboys themselves always seem to be down on Crayton. But I really don't care if his hands aren't that great. He will absolutely score for me some weeks. Other players seriously considered: Royal, Boldin/Walter (hamstrings already? no thanks), Welker, Gage, Driver, Berrian, Hester, Vincent Jackson.

TE - John Carlson - 11

TE - Brent Celek - 7

TE - Jermichael Finley - 3

This is my favorite group in the contest. I think it's crazy to spend $27 on Witten. Carlson may very well outscore Witten some weeks for less than 1/2 the money. I think Celek is a bargain. I know Finley is on a ton of teams, but that guy is far too talented to not risk $3 on. Other players seriously considered: Daniels, Zach Miller, Chris Baker.

PK - Josh Scobee - 2

PK - Shayne Graham - 2

PK - Josh Brown - 1

TD - Green Bay Packers - 3

TD - Washington Redskins - 3
Why wouldn't you lock up the Texans running game (and get their goal line carries) by taking Chris Brown for $1? I think you made a HUGE mistake right there.

Why wouldn't you lock up the Texans running game (and get their goal line carries) by taking Chris Brown for $1? I think you made a HUGE mistake right there.

...didn't this run with thousands of simulations last year though?
Yes, but that's because, by the time it debuted (like week 9 or something) the field was down to a fraction of its original size. For every run, it has to go through and compute every team's score in order to determine the cut. Fun as this is, it's probably not a good use of server resources, so I'm keeping it pretty minimal. As the weeks go on and the field dwindles, I can do more runs for the same cost.

It is cheap insurance, and against 12 teams in a league that makes sense. Against 13,000 teams, every stud pick needs to be a home run. If your #1RB goes down, you ain't winning nothing, IMHO. Brown is a great value for $1 and is a good pick regardless. But I don't think you win this thing by locking up teams. You need to pick the guys that produce.

Agreed. But it has already been stated that Chris Brown will be the GL back in Houston thus taking away TD opportunities from Slaton. If you chose Slaton, Brown is a no brainer for $1 more!

What did the Texans say EXACTLY? That Brown would be used in short yardage situations. They didn't say Slaton will NEVER be used in that role at all. Only that they see Brown's role when he's to be used will be in short yardage situations. That does not automatically translate into Slaton = no goal line touches and Brown = ALL goal line touches. People jump to so many conclusions around here on these news blurbs . . .

Looks like I have the same team as almost everyone else.

Looking forward to splitting the prize money 5,000 ways.

Does that mean we aren't going to see the final 250 prediction for awhile? That would be a really neat thing to see at the beginning of the season - something to compare to at the end. Just stay up really late one night when the demand on the server is light. :)

Posted my roster earlier, here it is with the rationalizations.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - 5 - $27

QB - Matt Ryan - 4 - $19

QB - Matt Hasselbeck - 7 - $17

$63 - A lot of money on QBs. I was certain I wanted Rodgers as I think he's got a legit shot at #1 overall fantasy QB this year. A bit of homer pick with Ryan, but I think it's still good value. Hass rounds out a squad where I think that any one of them can carry a team in a given week.

RB - Darren McFadden - 9 - $29

RB - Willie Parker - 8 - $16

RB - Laurence Maroney - 8 - $4

RB - Tashard Choice - 6 - $2

RB - James Davis - 9 - $2

$43 - Shorted myself at RB with no studs and no depth. I think this will be my ultimate downfall in the end. I've been on the mcafadden bandwagon all summer so, live by the sword, die by the sword. Hoping that Parker stays healthy and carries my RB squad.

WR - T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 7 - $30

WR - Anthony Gonzalez - 6 - $26

WR - Bernard Berrian - 9 - $21

WR - Chris Henry - 8 - $12

WR - Patrick Crayton - 6 - $4

WR - Chaz Schilens - 9 - $3

WR - Laurent Robinson - 9 - $2

$98 - Fairly happy with this. Housh, Gonazalez and Henry can carry this squad and I expect Robinson and Crayton to have a big enough years to cover any gaps.

TE - Greg Olsen - 5 - $15

TE - Brent Celek - 4 - $7

TE - Chris Baker - 8 - $1

$23 A bit nervous here, this squad could boom or bust. Hopefully this really is Olsen's breakout year.

PK - Robbie Gould - 5 - $2

PK - Matt Prater - 7 - $2

PK - Jay Feely - 9 - $1

$5 - Look! Kickers with different bye weeks!

TD - Arizona Cardinals - 4 - $3

TD - Green Bay Packers - 5 - $3

TD - Buffalo Bills - 9 - $2

$8 - Took the FBG recommended TD platoon, plus Buf, which is always underrated at draft time, but usually picked up off the wire by week 5 due to the return game.

24 Players, $250. Not set up well for weeks 8 or 9 and my RBs are pretty weak, but if I end up solid at TE and really good at QB, I might be ok.

ETA: Simulator has me 7989 and 90% survival, so I got that going for me.

...didn't this run with thousands of simulations last year though?
Yes, but that's because, by the time it debuted (like week 9 or something) the field was down to a fraction of its original size. For every run, it has to go through and compute every team's score in order to determine the cut. Fun as this is, it's probably not a good use of server resources, so I'm keeping it pretty minimal. As the weeks go on and the field dwindles, I can do more runs for the same cost.
Thanks, DD, figured there was a real reason for limiting the runs. I agree that dealing with the full original database is somewhat of a task!BTW, did you see my request earlier to investigate what the "best" original entry was from last year's contest? By this I mean to look at all the original entries and show who could have beaten the eventual champion had all teams been around in for the final 3 weeks. Interesting to see if perceived higher-risk "stud based" teams were overall stronger than perceived lower-risk "quantity over quality" based teams once you remove the constraint of required long term survival.

I have to say the $26 he spent on the remaining team was pretty well spent.James Davis $2 0.00

Edgerrin James $1 0.00

Nate Burleson $5 0.00

Joey Galloway $5 0.00

Percy Harvin $5 0.00

Chris Baker $1 0.00

Nate Kaeding $4 0.00

Green Bay Packers $3 0.00
well at least he drafted enough at each position to make it a valid entry. Who knows maybe everybody BUT his starters gets injured and Mr quarterback dude wins it all. Mr 16 qb dude, we salute you !!!

Forgot all about this contest until I got the email reminder from Joe yesterday. I quickly perused the rules, noticed that we can have up to 24 players (big fan of this in a best-ball format), started targeting who I wanted, checked out the bye weeks and came up with a clear winner...that cost $350. Flustered that I couldn't load up on Brady, Turner, D.Williams, Fitz, Wayne, Witten et al, I started compromising left and right until I ended up with this middle-of-the-pack team:

(snip)

Overall, I think the mediocrity at QB and RB will doom my team to an early-to-mid-round exit . I wish I remembered this contest earlier so I could have put some work into fitting Brady or Brees in as well as a stud RB. Oh well. We'll see how it goes.
Rank: 7937 - middle of the pack, indeed.

QB - Kurt Warner - ARI/4 - $25 3.7%

QB - Mark Sanchez - NYJ/9 - $9

QB - Matt Leinart - ARI/4 - $4 9.4%

Felt there was a decent chance of little love for AZ passing attack.

Was pretty good last year? Bit light with only two team QB's. Roll of dice...

RB - DeAngelo Williams - CAR/4 - $37 19.1%

RB - Ronnie Brown - MIA/6 - $35 4.4%

RB - Ryan Grant - GB/5 - $24 30.8%

RB - Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG/10 - $8 21.0%

RB - Ladell Betts - WAS/8 - $2 18.8%

RB - Tashard Choice - DAL/6 - $2 8.4%

Surprised Choice didn't have a higher %.

Very happy with Ronnie Brown %. Expect big things. $108 on rb's.

WR - Greg Jennings - GB/5 - $32 19.6%

WR - Donnie Avery - STL/9 - $21 5.1%

WR - Nate Burleson - SEA/7 - $5 15.7%

WR - Davone Bess - MIA/6 - $3 7.6%

WR - Darrius Heyward-Bey - OAK/9 - $2 9.2%

WR - Laurent Robinson - STL/9 - $2 13.5%

$73 on 8 wr's. Like the group. Could have took a more sure thing #2 wr,

but hoping Avery is a home run this year...

TE - Chris Cooley - WAS/8 - $15 3.4%

TE - Jermichael Finley - GB/5 - $3 24.8%

As hoped, low % for Cooley.

PK - Neil Rackers - ARI/4 - $3

PK - Olindo Mare - SEA/7 - $1

TD - New York Jets - NYJ/9 - $4

TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/5 - $3
