I wonder if they will introduce any monsters than can "see" people that are invisible.
For someone who went the tank route, can you people explain to the difference between invis and chameleon? And how attacking while under each "shows" you?
 
Also yesterday, I did one of those wilderness altar/temple quests for an evil god. I felt dirty afterwards and sold the awesome mace I got as a reward. I'm constantly being amazed by all of the subplots in this game.

 
I finished the Dark Brotherhood quest last night. I have enjoyed that one the best thought the Mages Guild on e has been good too.

Also, if any of you enjoy the DB quests, check out The Dark Brotherhood Mod. It's still in development but it looks very promising.
Dont forget about the mods bethesda has already released ( a couple quests and horse armor).

OK, thanks to those who recommended that I go back and get the diary from the haunted Anvil house, that was my problem. I read it but must not have kept it on the first pass through. So, I got homeboy to come back and remove the curse. Went to finish the quest off by waking up Grandpa bones in the crypt down there and holy sweet ####### ####. He ####### HOUSED me. Thats the first time in this game I've been smacked around like a child. I'm went back to the last save and let him be. I'm going let him keep sleeping for a while.... :unsure:
Now that Im stacked in Daedric armour as a result of the asskicking I did last night, I think I'm gonna go pay buddy boy another visit. :boxing:

Invis is complete, people can't see you, but you become visible the second you interact with anything, i.e. attack, open a door, search a body, cast a spell (other than invis), etc. Chameleon doesnt break, but the best version of the spell only gives you 50% concealment. If you arent moving, it works ok, and helps a little with sneaking, but once you are in combat, it does you no good (apart from whatever it does for your armor). When you're just running through the world, you'll still get attacked with chamelion up, not with invis.

Any dirtier then the DB quests? I can't imagine it being much worse than the Purification..... though I think we deserve a :nerd: for a game making us feel dirty...
 
That's the beauty of this game, you can be as goody two shoes or as evil as you want to be.

*Edit - That's one of the reasons I loved Fallout 2. You could become a drug addict, porn star, whatever the hell you wanted.

Once you attack, yep. Attacking gets you noticed pretty much every time. Though if you can kill in the first hit, other people in hearing range with their backs turned don't notice. :devil:

Guess I'm going to have to find Fallout 2 then. I don't know why I never bothered withit, since I loved Wasteland, Fallout 1, and brotherhood of steel.

Have anyone had things stolen out of their house? I need the most secure place possible to store a bunch of stuff. In Morrowind, I had an entire room in a Fighters Guild that just had my #### all over the place. In Oblivion, I left some stuff in a cabinet in the DB living quarters, and it was gone the next day :hot:

What are you all doing to stash your good loot?

sweet. I've been working on that recenty. I have some sword that I got in a cave that delivers 16hp (one less than a regular ebony longsword) + 15 shock points. Add some of my special "####hammer blend" poison to it (silence 3sec + 10 fire + 10 frost +10 shock + Damage Magica) -- combine that with a 6X sneak attack...it's really not even fair. :thumbup: :own3d:

I bought a few houses and store stuff there. I've heard things can be stolen, but it hasn't happened to me yet. I have the house in Anvil, Cheydinhal, and that shack in the imperial city (I needed a cheap dumping point). Other than the houses though, I think Oblivion does "housecleaning" every few days, takes away bodies, random gear, etc. restocks dungeons and all that.

hehe... gotta love it. Now find a way to go invis after, and you can destroy anyone. I didn't take a hit vs the "gray prince" due to paralyze/sneak attack/invis

It will seem like a joke in comparison with Oblivion, but I sunk many an hour into Fallout 2.

I'm skipping the theive's guild and DB lines this time around as a spellsword. Next time around, I'll probably dive into everything as a thief or evil mage. I will agree on the :nerd: :nerd: :nerd: :nerd: with a capital :nerd:

The reduced stealth indicator mod is VERY useful. I would be over that one if I were you stealth builds. You can actually see what you are aiming at.

Yeah - am I missing something, or is there no way to easily tell your hotkey settings, unless you have those icons memorized?

Yes, zoom is nice, but seriously, why wouldn't you do it? HUGE difference for me.

That was the only mod I used, though I have another to expand the map view and allow more inventory items on screen at once.

That's another minor annoyance. All your spell effects have generic icons there's no way to really tell what is what. Also with poisons and diseases, how the heck do you tell if you're afflicted outside of noticing your stats are colored red?The screen interface is pretty much specifically designed for a console game. On 360 (don't know for PC) if you hold down a direction on the D-pad (doesn't matter what) the whole hot-"circle" appears. I have the horse armor mod, but thats all thats available for 360 so far, though the 2 new missions from bethesda should be available this week. Has anyone found a way to use 3rd-party mods on the 360 yet?

Yes. But in BG, it was on the main screen. So you didn't have to leave the game world to see the effects. The series of small icons was always on the lower right. An advantage of this interface (besides not having to toggle to your character screen) was, if you were using protection or buffing spells of limited duration, you could see in the middle of the fight when they wore off so you would know when to recast.

Grrrr....servo motors were my downfall.
I was quite young when I played, so I'm sure I missed some stuff, but it started glitching SOOOO bad around the time of the quest to put that robot guy together in the sewers of Vegas

Im taking tomorrow and friday off and heading back to my hometown to visit my parents for easter. I am taking my Xbox 360 so here is to having a lot of time in the next few days to play Oblivion :nerd: :banned:

I just installed it on my Dell 9300 laptop, as well, so I can take it on the go. It is a Centrino 1.73, 2 GB RAM and an NVidia 6800 Go card, which, as luck would have it, supports HDR. :hifive:

Currently wearing= Robe of the Conjurer (fort int+wpr=7, fort conj+dest=10), riverwalking boots, black band (fort lt.arm+sec=8, 8% mag resist), grand ring of Aegis (shield self 18%), cruelty's Heart (fort wpr+str=13)

Currently wielding = Sierra Mist (shockingly refreshing dagger I made - 10 frost + 10 shock for 2 sec, weakness to frost/shock 100% for 2 sec), Shadowhunt bow (turn undead up to lvl 27, dmg health 17, smg magicka 17, weakness to poison 17%, all on strike), Arrows of storm strike (40 shock dmg in 10 ft for 2 sec), Greater staff of storms (35 shock in 10 ft for 2 sec)

Finishing this is going to take forever....

gotcha. I can see where it could be helpful, but i have 17 effects currently on the list; my guess is it would crowd the screen? I agree it would be helpful to at least see harmful effects though.

Thanks :) can't believe I've got over 100 hours into it already :nerd: ESPECIALLY when I see sooooo many things i have yet to do. Oblivion gates are popping up all over the place now, and I really don't want to have to close them all, hope I wont have to, though it doesnt seem that hard, just annoying to run around diff towers raising gates, extending bridges, etc, all to get to the place you know you have to go that looks like all the others :shrug: I can't say the programmers half-assed it on the oblivion levels, because their attention to detail throughout seems pretty good, but I really have a lot less fun on those levels than I do in the rest of the game.
