Depending on what it is, I would try dispel. Longshot would be cure disease / cure poison.
I tried all three and it didn't work :hot: I am so pissed off I tried everything to get rid of the negative modifier to my speed but no dice and I can't get healed at the chapels because I am an evil character
is it possible that you tried dispel but the potion / spell you had wasn't strong enough?

that could be. when I killed the woman that attacked me with her sword I took it. The Sword is called Longsword of Dispel and it does Dispel 25pts on Strike. I am guessing that this is when my speed went down. It is nothing that I am wearing.I admit I don't know much about magic in the Elder Scroll series. In both Morrowind and Oblivion I have always been a thief.

But it shows my speed is 61 when it is supposed to be around 86. So 86-25pts of dispel = 61 - Im just guessing here.

60 bucks for the xbox 360 version...

what is the ce difference, other than 10 bucks..
I bought my PC version for $60 for the collector's edition. It also came with a gold septim, which I am planning on using to purchase some Peony seeds.

Come to think of it, I have a red attribute, too, and could not figure out what was up with it. I might try praying at a church, though I am in the DB, now.

just had a thought, not sure if it would work or not. Go the arena and fight, and see if that bathing place ("You feel completely rejuvinated..." )where your done with fights gets rid of it?

yep I tried the church no dice - since I am the Listener in the DB (I completed the DB quest - don't want to give it away) the church will not grant me healing

thanks will try that - It is much harder to get your stats back to normal in Oblivion than in Morrowind and as already mentioned the lack of indications on the main screen is a pain since you really don't know if you have negative modifiers without checking out your stats periodically.

Go to your stats page and the far right tab. I used to have the same problem (couldn't pray at a church) and I think it was due to my infamy was higher than my fame). Even as a member of all 5 guilds, once I got higher fame, I was able to. Hope that helps.-fe

Ok folks, here is a quick rundown of the mods that I am running, for those that are interested in this:

- BTMod (w/Dark UI) - this enlarges the map, darkens the different inventory pages, shows more spells/weapons/armor etc and overall makes the interface MUCH better looking. You can also shrink down the HUD or modify it w/ this mod. aesthetically, the best mod out imo. A "must have".

- Quest Award Leveling - This updates your magic quest items when you reach each items "new" level. Previously, if a quest item had various "levels" of power, and say you did said quest at level 8, but this thing upgrades at 10, 15 and 25, you miss out on those "upgrades" since you did the quest at level 8. With this mod, it automatically upgrades the item (and there are quite a few in the game), when you reach that level. It now no longer matters what level you are when you do a particular quest. Just make sure you keep the item. It doesn't have to be on you, just in your house, etc. When you then pick it up, it will upgrade ;) A "must have".

- Level Modifier Counter - This adds a new book "A Journal of Progress" to the seller at 1st Edition Books in the Imperial City. At any time, it will tell you what has level'd up since your last level. Very useful instead of having a pen-and-paper marking 'tics' everytime one of your skills levels up. This does that for you. Helps with getting that +5 modifier when you sleep.

- Updated Gem prices - It irked me that a flawless diamond is only worth like 100 septium. This just modifies the prices a bit to make them a bit more realistic.

- More Arrows Recovered - I hated shooting 15 arrows into a mob and getting like, 5 back. This changes the arrow recovery from 50% to 75% and makes the arrows stay in the world, after shot, much longer, so you can hunt for the ones you missed with, longer.

- Marksman Velocity - The better the arrow, the faster if flies. No more lazy arcs, excpet with cheaper arrows. More realistic, imo. But this works both ways, for you and mob archers

- Increased Bow Damage - This is one of 3 mods that "change" an aspect of the game and might not be for everyone. Basically, I hated having to meleee every time or run like a scared girl, all the time. Instead of 15-20 arrow shots, this take more like 5- 10 to kill a mob. A couple more one-shot kills, but not overpowering by any means.

- No Psychic Guards - When you murder someone out of sight and out of sound range, the guards will not show up out of nowhere, unless they are nearby and hear the yelling. Voice distance for reporting crimes has been reduced. But a guard walking within the reduced alarm range still might might hear the screams for help. There will be no bounty placed on your head unless the guards hear the original NPC crime victim yelling at the time the crime is commited. And you will also be arrested if the guards see you chasing or being chased by an attack victim. Also, there are 2 versions of this: normal and hard.

- Attack and Hide -

Do you ever get tired of being auto-acquired after attacking an NPC or creature? You know, when the sneak eye stays solid (detected) even if you are out of line of sight and perfectly still? And no matter how hard you try to hide using sneak, they always find you anyways... like the Terminator with built-in radar or something. Well, I also go tired of it too. It just wasn't realistic. This mod makes it where the NPCs and creatures will 'search' for you after an attack or when you are spotted in line of sight or sound. Basically now, you have a chance to attack (stealth or regular), and then run away and hide. When they are searching for you, the sneak eye might change back and forth between solid and faded many times. This might mean they might be close to finding you. Your best chance to evade in this situation is to hide behind something out of their line of sight and stay perfectly still. If you are out of their line of sight, there is a good chance they won't find you. Just stay perfectly still. But if the sneak eye stays solid for longer period of time, they might be closing in to find you. They might even search the area they last saw you. The farther distance you are from the enemy, the better chance you have of hiding, and remaining hidden.Plus hiding behind something is even better. And don't forget about using shadows and darkness, too. If you are far enough away, you also might be able to shoot off a few arrows into the enemy and remain undetected. It just depends on the situation. There is a good chance you can escape undetected or attempt another stealth attack if you are careful. Also there are 3 levels of "difficulty" for this one.

- Deadlier Traps -

What it does is change the damage of all traps to an insta-kill, EXCEPT the following:

Gas Traps

Dart Traps

Magic Turrets

Oblivion 'Mines'

This adds realism and suspense to dungeons. No longer will you be able to shrug off the damage from a large spiky ball in the face.

- Birthsign No-max - Birthsign attribute bonuses no longer count against your limit of 100 in each attribute. So, if you're born under the sign of the steed, your maximum speed is 120, not 100.

- Retroactive Health - Without this mod, your health is determined by your endurance, when you got your endurance, and your level. With it, when you got your endurance no longer matters. This gets rid of the stupid rush to get your endurance up as early as possible.

- Potion Sorter -

Changes names of standard potions to list the effect first and the strength

second, so your potion list in-game is sorted by effect. Just organizes them. Niiiiice.

- Spell Ranks - This mod simply renames purchased spells according to their "type" and

rank. So now, rather than having your 5 "X fire damage on Target" spells

scattered all over your spellbook, they are now renamed such that they

appear sequentially, e.g.:

Flare

Flare II

Flare III

Flare IV

Flare V

Does basically the same as the Potion Sorter. Again, very mice.

And, with This package of mods, you get a ton of visual tweaks such as:

-Better Night Sky

- Darker Dungeons

- Darker Nights

- Harvest (harvesting plants now change their look when you harvest them, but do regrow as usual)

-Better Gold

- Shorter Grass

- and some texture mods that make the landscapes look MUCH better and do not effect performance.

IMO, this adds tons to the game and, for all intents and purposes, doesn't change the game much at all. Makes it more visually appealing and a little more reaslistic. Feel free to PM me for links. Was too lazy to add them all.

Well underway in teh DB quests - have to track the High Elf in the Imperial City now. Praying cured my condition, too.

Depending on what it is, I would try dispel.  Longshot would be cure disease / cure poison.

My fame is 4 and my infamy is 38  I have played the game for about 18 hours and have done most of the thief guild and all of the DB quests so that would explain the high infamy - doesn't look like I'll be getting healed at the churches anytime soon

Finally setting off down the road outside of the Imperial City to the West. Up to level 3 and just took on the fisherman's quest for some slaughterfish (or something like that). In addition to being sorta tough (for me anyway), these buggers are few and far between. Don't think I'll be getting all 12 I need anytime soon  I don't belong to any guilds yet, still just checking out this massive world and dungeon-diving...Gotta love this game

FE - Where do I get the mod for the book that shows your leveling progress? I'm having a hard time getting +5's to the max three (I think) skills - I get a bunch of +2/+3/+4, etc, but haven't gotten more than two +5's as of yet. I assume I must be doing something wrong, but as an example I spent a few hours trying to increase my block & blade for strength, and it didn't budge past +2

Did I mention I love this game yet? :nerd:

:nerd: Well Good News.. I have added 2 new Nerds to the world.. Introduced my Kids.. and they are loving it.. Bad news is Now I have Competition..

I am debating the stealth head shot... Sure I love them.. but this hogging of my Oblivion capable PC is killing me...

Glad some of you are enjoying some of the various mods out there. Good times. Played cards tonight, live *gasp* so no Oblivion, but I did make a lil over $600 and my Reds won an awesome 1-0 game vs the Cards, so all-in-all, not a terrible night, even w/o Oblivion :nerd:

Back at it tomorrow if I can around cards and the Byrd/Klitchko fight

I started my new character. I also added three mods, the first three on that long list. I won't enhance my weapons or anything, I don't want to change the game. But a bigger map and inventory and a smaller cursor are a godsend. Anyways, I hope to play smarter this time around and not "advance" myself to the point where I can't defeat anyone later on. I can already see that my main problem again will be blade skills. Cave diving as an archer just means lots of long distance kills. I may have to force myself to close sometimes and do a little blade work just so I have some melee skill. Also, I need to find an Invis spell. I chose illusion this time but all I can do right now is brighten up the cave. Wee. I need to find a place to buy a spell to let me attack then disappear. But it's early. I got out of the sewer again and did the Sideways Cave and one Arena battle, that's it. I don't enjoy repeating all the things I already did once. I need to find some motivation somewhere damnit!

You really don't need melee skills in this game. I am 95% bow. The only time I go blade is to soul trap with the dagger I made for that purpose. I even make my Dark Brotherhood kills with the bow. It is even easier.

Had a funny experience today.

I was searching one of the ruin sites grabbing the Welkynd (sp?) Stones and the Vallhara Stones (sp?). As I am exporing I come across an Umbra. I sneak and get her with my bow for 3x damage. Im using glass arrows so that was like 27 damage with my current skill. Her energy bar did not even move

Well I was far enough away so that she did not see me. I knew I was not strong enough to take her down so I snuck around her and continued on exploring. I got out of the cave and teleported back to my home in the Imperial City waterfront. I get to my house and sleep for a couple of hours and as I wake up I hear talking in my house... I turn around and it is the Umbra I shot in the ruin

She is not in fight mode so I try to talk to her but she doesn't say anything. So I leave my house and she follows. So I sneak and shoot her with an arrow. She comes to attack me and as she is attacking Hermonous Lex comes and starts to fight her. I jump on an house in the waterfront and I am hitting her with my arrows as Lex is whacking away at her. She was a ******* to kill. Lex can't die b/c he is a central character so she knocked him out 5 times. He would come to and start fighting again. Luckily she could not attack me on top of the house. She finally dies and Lex returns to the Waterfront and I have myself a full set of Ebony Armor & Ebony Longsword to sell :pickle:

Good card, but it does not support HDR. How much money are you spending? Might be a better plan to get a 6800 GS.

$180.00I had to get an ATI card, long story

Anybody tried that Ft. Blueblood quest? I get right to end, and that regenerating troll just wears me out. Flare is the only fire spell I have, and it doesn't do much good.

Is the bone in the coffin the object I'm supposed to retrieve? I ran in there and got it, but don't want them chasing me all the way back to town if that's not what I came for.

Could you get the X1600 Pro instead? And what is the ATI story?

Has this been running ok on the 360's? I'm thinking about getting one in the next couple of weeks (primarily for Oblivion), but I'd like to know if it runs ok first i.e. not much freezing etc...

It freezes occasionally, but the cache clearing seems to do the trick. I'd say I've probably had the game freeze on me somewhere between 10-20 times in about 120 hours of gameplay

It's an occasional problem here. maybe 6-8 freezes in a couple weeks of playing.

I've done it. It was kinda tough but I didn't have too much problem. The bone is not what you are there for. I can tell you what you want if you need more info.

I have had it freeze up a few times when it was loading big areas. I just save often and combine that with the frequent autosaving it hasnt been that much of a pain.

With all the mods, now, gonna restart with a new toon, to maximize the Quest Awards. I'll be playing a ton this week, so I shouldn't be that far behind you fellas :)

Loke, you and I :beerme:

In the benchmark tests on Tomshardware.com the X800XL consistantly beat the X1600 Pro Tomshardware Interactive Charts  When I changed from my Nvidea Gforce Ti4200 to the ATI 9800 Pro I had to do a complete hard drive format and reinstall windows for my PC to recognize the new card. :hot:

I think the Nvidea drivers messed up some settings and when I tried to install the drivers for the ATI card the system would crash.

I used 2 or 3 different "scrubbing" programs to try to totally eliminate the Nvidia drivers but no matter what I did my new ATI card would not work properly.

After I did the reformat and new Windows install the 9800 Pro worked great.

Now that I have an ATI card on this PC I am scared to try a Nvidea card and I am NOT willing to do a complete reformat and new Windows install just to get a new video card to work so I am sticking with an ATI card.

Now that I have an ATI card on this PC I am scared to try a Nvidea card and I am NOT willing to do a complete reformat and new Windows install just to get a new video card to work so I am sticking with an ATI card.
I can understand how you feel. I have been an ATI fanboy for a long time, and tried NVidia recently and got burned. Am back to an x1900XT on my gaming rig.If it were for power only, I would say pick up the X850XT for $150 on Newegg, which will kill the X800XL. However, it does not support HDR, which looks great on Oblivion.

Little note:

For those that have not done the Sideways cave (no quest, come out of the sewers and turn 90 degrees to the right and up in the rocks), DO IT! The reward is one of the handiest items in the game. ;) Finally found where I had gotten it previously.

After a long day of plugging away at this, I just completed the Dark Brotherhood mission. Very cool stuff there.

I guess I'm back to the Mages Guild quests now, I just got accepted into the Uni. right before I started concentrating on the DB stuff.

How do you get new spells? I'm a mage with the 7 casters skills as my major skills, and I've gotten conj. over 50, alteration over 75, etc., but I still have the same spells are started with. I've wandered to other towns and found a guildmaster, but he wants money and only boasts a major skill. :bag:

I have 1 question about leveling. I kind of understand the concept of improving your minor skills to improve your modifier for each governing attribute. However, what is the plan when all of an attributes' skills are major?

Using my pure caster mage as an example, if I decided to improve Strength in a level, would I increase Blade 10x, then use Intel. based spells 5x and Will. spells 5x to ensure that the 3 attributes increased by +5?

Sorry for the silly questions, but I'm new to the :nerd:

I know of two shops in the market district that sell spells.
The different mage guilds sell them, and the power/cost varies widely. That's about the only way I know - you don't automatically learn new ones at levelup, and you can't copy them from scrolls.

Huh? I did that first thing and don't recall gettng anything of any use out of there. What did I miss?

I'm not sure I understand the question exactly. But increasing any skills (major or minor) with the same attribute 10 times will ensure the +5 modifier. Increasing ten MAJOR skills will allow you to level up. But in your example, you would have only increased willpower and intelligence only 5 times each, which will only get you a modifier of 2 or 3. So you would need to increase them another 5 times each. Remember, you can level up when you increase your major skills 10 times. But you don't HAVE to level up. You can weight to sleep until you have all your modifers at +5.

The only good loot I found in the cave was a burning dagger... Is that what you were referring to?

That's incorrect. Once you level up the new skills you level up in after getting the message telling you to sleep count towards your next level up. So you can't just put off sleeping to get +5 modifiers in every category. Once you level up from the message, the modifiers are locked in and the new points gained go towards your next level up. I am positive on this.

 fellow ListenerShadowmere = :moneybag:
So whats the bonus with Shadowmere? doesn't seem any faster than the black horse I dropped $5K on a couple days ago. Sure wish I had waited. :wall:
IIRC, Shadowmere is the fastest horse in the game and is also a central character to the game so the horse cannot be killed just knocked out. If you read my post a few days ago regarding Shadowmere. If you are able to knock the horse out, it turns into a body so you can add stuff to the horse while it is knocked out. Shadowmere can take hold a lot of items so you have a traveling chest with you at all times. If you need something just knock her down again and get the item back.Plus Shadowmere has red eyes which look cool :nerd:
