***OFFICIAL The Leftovers, New HBO show Thread *** (1 Viewer)

I had to bow out after the last episode. I just don't care about any of these people. they can all get sucked into the sky.

I was listening to one of the Grantland podcasts and one of the hosts brought up a good point made by Bill Simmons of all people...why the hell did HBO put this on in the summer? You have a great weekend BBQing, at the beach/pool, golfing, etc and then the last thing you want people to do before going to bed and working all week is to watch this hour of unbridled enthusiasm?

Slayer aside, I liked the episode 2 weeks ago and really liked this past week's. I was on the fence on this show and am now firmly in through the end of the season.

An error occurredNo idea that was Slayer.
I get so excited when something I like musically crosses over into mainstream media, it's SO infrequent. I literally shot forward in my chair about 1/2 second after she hit play on the CD player and yelled out : "SLAYER !!!!!!!!!!! ANGEL OF DEATH !!!!!!!!!!!" My wife looked at me with a bemused/puzzled look on her face that seemed to convey : "Oh dear God, I married a 14-year old." I sat back sheepishly when it dawned on me that she didn't give a rat's ### that Slayer was being played in a primetime HBO drama.

During that scene, I immediately began thinking of how she came to acquire a Slayer CD.

My wife goes "Let me guess, you know this song?"

Ha! I thought the same thing.

Had we been watching my wife would have guessed it was Slayer. Then again, she'll guess Slayer for anything remotely close.

south of heaven or hell awaits would have made more sense imo. I like the show but it ain't a feel good show, that's for sure.

No one would watch this in the winter. Winter can be depressing enough as it is.

No idea that was Slayer.

Totally. I think I even said it aloud. Wife told me to move on and also to rewind so she could hear everything I talked over.

seeing how the cd came out 28 years ago and her characters age and her kinky tendencies, she def could have crossed paths with some thrash dudes or been a metal chick herself at some point on time.

We are only on the 3rd or 4th episode (last we saw was the priest episode) and my biggest problems are that the show seems all over the place, there are no characters that I even find likeable (not really any I particularly dislike either), and I find it rather slow and boring. My wife is still intrigued so I will try to stick with it as long as she can manage.

What is drawing me in right now is that I have no idea what is going on with a lot of this stuff:

-Is the crazy dad crazy, or does that 1972 Nat Geo ACTUALLY tie in to something somehow?

-Is the hugger a nutball cult leader, or is he legit?

-What is the goal of the Guilty Remenant? I guess to remind people that we're left behind? So what? Thats not compelling enough to get people to abandon their families and join them, is it?

-The government seems tied in somehow... maybe something going on there.

They're interesting questions... thing is, given WHO is producing the show, I don't know if they'll ever be answered. Maybe.

If this were lost, I'd have found a copy of that specific Nat Geo already. I'm not going to bother though, fool me once yada yada.

This isn't a spoiler but speculation - in case anyone doesn't want to discuss...

I think the Dad hooked up with the daughters friend when he blacked out the same night he brought the dog home - just from the way she was acting the morning/day after

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but what "clues"/plot elements have prompted you to think this?
Just the general weirdness with the dead Guilty Rem. member's body. That and they apparently have a whole government arm dedicated to it... forget what it was called, Department of something or other.

Kept going and the Nora episode and this past episode have me firmly entrenched for the final 3.

I'm getting sucked into the "WTF's", as someone mentioned above.

Seemed a little unclear to me............but the thing with the shirts. So, when he was "sleepwalking", for lack of a better term...........he picked up the shirts himself and nailed them to trees at his childhood camp? I didn't really get what the significance of all that was. Other than that, I like the way things are picking up.

I'm definitely confused about most of this episode. What the hell does he understand? The shirts, I have no idea. The dog shooting guy still seems like some kind of voice in his head thing, but they clearly keep him visible to other characters. If he's real, who the hell is he and why is he going on these midnight sprees with Garvey?

Everything seemed to be building towards something, then just sort of unraveled this week.

You know, people lose other people/children/pregnancies all the tme. They typically aren't completely ####ed up three years later. The cults and weird healers and conspiracy theories I can buy, but this General Malaise that hangs over everybody seems a bit much.

Finally watched the last episode. This show isn't great but I don't think it deserves all of the hate it is getting.
The last two episodes were improved. But the first 8-10 sucked. I had decided I would see out the season but the GF had quit until I told her things improved. She's now in for the rest of the season but unless the last episode is stellar I don't see us continuing next season. There are too many good programs to watch to waste our limited viewing time on mediocre shows such as this has been so far.
