***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I liked the episode a lot and Dwight is easily one of my least favorite characters. I am growing tired of the "Will he turn on Negan or won't he?" hoo ha. It's been 3 episodes now so hopefully that's done although I'm guessing it's not based on how Dwight knows he gave up the Doc to save himself. But I really liked the Eugene stuff. Gut says he hasn't flipped but is doing what he does best - parlaying a lot of BS about himself in such a way it keeps him safe. It's exactly what he did when he found Abe and he's doing it now with Negan. Sound smart and make it seem like you're vital to the cause and the power in charge will protect you.

The smirk on his face after he whimpered in front of Negan was great. It's possible Rick now has someone on the inside with access to stuff that could prove helpful down the road - assuming Eugene has the stones to deliver.

I thought this was a damn good episode. Great character work for Eugene.
As you posted...Eugene has done this before.. Be someone he is not in order to fit in and be safe..95% sure D and Eugene team up as "Insiders" to help Rick .. Everything about the episode and the ending points that way..

Overall though, the 1 hour and 10 minutes could have EASILY just been a 15 to 30 minute part of an episode, with other groups intertwined and I wouldn't have been nearly as bored as I was watching last night. Oh well, there is always next week

If it's something that's going to definitely happen in an upcoming episode I don't wanna know about it. Previews are fine but I don't want to know anything that's definitely going to happen.

Yeah I think a D/E pairing is coming up as well. Hopefully that works to make Dwight a more compelling character for me.

I wasn't bored by the episode at all. While I'm tired of the Dwight Angst it didn't slow down the episode for me the way it had before. And the Eugene stuff was really good in my opinion. This was one of my favorite episodes of the season. Granted, this has been the weakest season to date so far but I still enjoyed the episode a lot.

ETA - Also, we hadn't seen a Negan kill since the first episode. For such a bad ### he's been really tame with the violence since then. So I thought that was necessary to happen.

not something that is definitely happening and not part of a preview. it is a real life, outside the show, happening that may the show. It is probably common knowledge around here.

something similar to "Chandler Riggs is going to college" but for another character

The "Spoiler" wasn't about something that WILL happen.. More a "Might happen due to other circumstances"

Negan's character seems to be a little more tense lately-  not as much whistling, over the top back bending, etc..   maybe he knows what is coming, especially with people escaping?

Daryl just escaped, Sherry's gone and he's questioning Dwight again. Yeah he should be a bit on edge.

I said awhile back he hasn't seen the group at full strength at any time so I think he could be feeling a bit overconfident. Maybe he's pulling back a bit on that given how many issues he's had to deal with involving Rick's group.

I think  we've disccussed this before- but I continue to like the dwight character in the show... at least his portrayal so far and his possible future influence on events. I know it's a comic, but too many of the people and events are too comic-y for me... including dr smarty-pants. dwight's portrayal seems one of the more true-to-life and genuine, so I'm in. until he starts talking like the garbage pail kids. I liked the episode fine, even if it didn't seem to set up more for the overall story arc than putting another insider with questionable allegiances close to negan.

This would seem to be directly lined up to the overall story arc right now.

eta - i am several pages behind in the thread so it may have already been mentioned
i think it is always better to caution and post as a spoiler. I read it cause i thought it was a comic spoiler, but appreciate anything marked that way

I'm with you I sort of like Dwight.  I'm confused about the whole memory thing though.  Maybe they mentioned it earlier in the show but it was strange that his wife seemed to think his memory was really messed up since I haven't gotten an indication of that prior (although I do often only half watch the show so I could have easily missed something).  But it sure seems like Dwight is going to end up enemies with Negan if he doesn't forget about everything.  And why did Eugene think Dwight wasn't replaceable?  Sure he's one of Negan's higher ups but I would think you'd rather have another doctor than a guy like Dwight on your team in this world.

Loved the atari.  Not even sure it was ever established what year it is supposed to be anyway.

Mullet pulling an episode by himself pretty well.  Nicely done Dr. Smarty Pants.

I am kinda wondering if Negan had the girls put him up to the killer pill thing, then when he refused to give it to them Negan came knocking to let Haircut know he doesn't need to be scared anymore.  That is probably not the case, but I could see it.

huh... hadn't thought about what year- other than the eco-community set up at alexandria (off the top of my head), or there any other tell-tale things that date this as current?

I had the same thought about negan using the girls as a test for mullet.

I thought the same thing. Negan seems to enjoy testing people.

There was a bit of a fuss made a few years ago when they were driving around in a clean newer model Hyundai so the show takes place in relatively current times:

2011 Hyundai Tucson

It would seem to make sense but what could counter that idea is Negan killing the doc. If he was testing Eugene he wouldn't kill the doc without knowing for sure Eugene wasn't going to poison him. If he kills the doc and Eugene fails the test he's all of a sudden without a doctor in the house. That would be a big problem.

not to mention... Negan would have asked for the pills for proof of his allegiance.

So what was Two - Face's end game in planting the note on the doctor and getting him killed? Just can't see the reasoning for it. Not to mention how dumb it is in general to be killing your only remaining medical doctor.

Dr seemed to be in his business about his wife, who Dwight wanted to be free. That's all I've got. But yeah... Drs should be treated like gods in this world.

Agreed killing the doctor at this point is dumb but then again Negan doesn't seem to look past the current day.

D's end game was to protect Sherry.. Just telling people "She got killed by the Dead" wasn't going to be enough.

He came up with the story of Sherry telling D about the Doc helping Daryl escape, before she was killed by walkers, so as to divert attention from Sherry to the Doc and thus keep her alive.

Neegan mentioned that he has another Doc. Still stupid to knock off a guy filling a role that's in short supply but he wasn't only one.

On the Atari Vs PS4 plasma tv issue. Isn't power consumption a issue if you are just using misc solar panels. I have to think a big screen with a modern system uses a #### load more electricity that the old stuff.

I think you guys are reading too much into the Atari 2600...   I don't own any newer game consoles..  I have a raspberry pi 3 with all the classics loaded on it..

I can spend hours just going thru and playing all the oldies..  Maybe playing Yars Revenge takes "haircut" back to his childhood, before the turn and zombies.. It's a nostalgia thing..

I thought mullet said he had a phd... which makes him a "doctor" but not an md.

I don't remember that.  If anything I thought I remembered him saying something like "you're our doctor now" to Eugene.

Yes, that is what Dr Smarty Pants said. I recall though that Neegan said he had another MD in house. I'll go back and rewatch but I thought that's what he said.

LEDs vs tubes?  I have to think just the opposite

It only shows his group that nobody is indispensable.  Which could work against him in the end.

I understood it to mean that negan had dr pants in the house now.

but would be hugely stupid of negan to think mullet is an actual md- especially when he explained his cv... none of which was about being a trained md. so you could be right.

Just curious, am I the only one who wonders about that truck full of goods that sunk in a pond in the first Jesus episode? I find it odd that they'd risk canoeing out to that boat in zombie infested waters for such a meager haul, yet wouldn't find a way to pull that truck out with a couple tractors, or find another way to unload the goods. Particularly when they are so strapped for food to survive.

The Walking Dead timeline has been counted in days since the outbreak, however in Fear the Walking Dead they confirmed the outbreak happened in 2010.  It's almost 2 years after the outbreak now so sometime in 2012.

The Atari doesn't back date the time period, I still have a 2600 (along with other and older consoles) that works just fine.  Obviously it couldn't be a time period prior to 1977 though.

Yar's Revenge cameo!

Was that an actual Atari game of some kind?
Ok,  I just watched the show on DVR and haven't read the comments yet so forgive me if I Hipple. But yes,  Eugene was playing my favorite Atari game of all time,  Yar's Revenge.  I can't tell you how many hours I wasted as a a youth playing that game.  No one could beat me,  I always hit the shooting cannon. Awesome 8-bit game and I smiled every time it came on screen.
