***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Maybe Carl will somehow survive and become the savior by providing the antidote to the zombie virus. I mean, much like Glen, you didn't actually see him die!

I was thinking that Chandler Riggs had requested to leave the show to go to college or some such thing and thus Carl's death was just writing him out of the series.

Read that his real life father was #####ing that Scott Gimple had told them that Carl was going to be in the series for another 2-3 years but wrote him out so they weren't happy about it.

one tell the writers have- once a character is featured showing some introspection and awareness in an episode, they're a gonner.

exactly.  This is what irks me about all the online fanboys crying over losing Carl.  He's had a grand total of like 12 minutes of screentime so far this season. All we've seen him do is talk to Siddiq, help him kill a couple zombies, and take more instructions from Michonne to "stay home and hold down the fort while I go off on useless missions".  Carl had become a background character.  Rick wasn't grooming him to be the new leader.  Carl was a teenage boy who could have stepped into the Glenn role of the team, but he was relegated to being Judith's babysitter since he lost his eye and was made to piss himself after Negan turned him into his personal canary last season.

Carl was a useless character for the last 3+ seasons.  Now this episode has him devising plans, giving speeches to Negan and the Saviors, executing a successful (unlike Rick's plans ever) rescue of the Alexandrians, and everyone acts surprised when he gets the ax now that he's getting some screentime.  The writers telegraphed that killing by having a Carl-centric opening of this episode

seems like a terrible idea, you can always go to college.

I will kinda miss the kid on the show, he's grown on me as I couldn't stand him early on, hopefully rick goes ape ****

I think the lunacy of this show and this past episode has been pretty much thoroughly documented today but I have to add a few just plot holes and general lol's.

1. Why is only one of the saviors hands tight up in the pen?  Seems a bit odd they're not all tied up, but I didn't see that. there was the one long-haired guy who was being a ##### previously... was he the guy that was tied up?  Yes ok... then he was the one guy consistently trying to mess with maggie and trying to bum-rush the kingdom broad to take her gun, trying to escape. so he's the one guy that's tied up. because I"m sure the other guys wouldn't try to escape... especially after seeing one of their own get gunned down in cold blood.

2. At this point why wouldnt Maggie just kill em all? they're bargaining chips- the note on the coffin said something like 1 down, 34 up. Not even sure what that means or how it helps. they're hostages- bargaining chips to be used as a last ditch negotiation with negan by maggie. maggie had her people put the coffin with the note somewhere where the saviors would find it to let them know. you can agree/disagree with whether negotiating with negan is a good idea- but that's the pretty clearly shown and stated reason for those guys and why she's keeping them alive (and killed the one). does that make sense? I'm not sure how much more clearly to explain that.

3. Why didnt Carl and company just get on those platforms and just lay waste to Negan and co? they were surprised (but long enough to generate that escape plan) and probably lacked the firepower. How much do you need to just spray the crowd real fast and yeah once again Negan is just standing in the open.  Hell you would think there would be shot holes in the wall at this point negan is the guy they need to kill. just one guy. so of course they can't even try to kill him.

4. Whats the point of the islam guy? other than turning coral back to the light while also getting him killed stupidly, not sure yet- we'll probably see next season. Maybe but he served no purpose so far.  Just taking up a cot. writers have been pretty consistent about utilizing people they give screen time to... I'm sure he'll feature next season in some way (punching bag to rick, something).

5. Wouldnt the traitor savior be at risk for driving straight into an ambush? no idea what that was about- but dwight seemed to be throwing his last roll of the dice by bailing completely on negan and trying to join up with team-rick. said he recognized that it was an ambush- but I guess he got really lucky avoiding getting shot dead in the car.

6. Speaking of Daryls ambush why wouldnt you be set up on both sides of the road? to avoid crossfire  You can set up an ambush and not have cross fire.  Someone should have been dug in across the street in cased they ran into the woods. meh. sure. did they have a lot of time to dig in? didn't think they did.

7. WTF was that entire deal with OCeanside and the stupid banter between them in the car. the real question to me is why enid shot gma without a warning or warning shot first True

8. So did the GBK just tuck and run and thats the end of it?  stupid writing hopefully that's the end of it- that's one plot hole I hope is unfilled. yes

9. Why in the holy hell wouldnt you spend the first 5-10 minutes showing how they escaped and how they got weapons and their plans for the communities. helloexactly

10. So the king just wants to be taken?  Da fuq.... he wanted redemption after getting his entire crew killed. he gave himself up and allowed the kingdom survivors to escape with his move.  That whole sequence and him carrying the chain was pretty nauseating as well.  Why not try and fight, surely they had guns hidden somewhere I thought all the people who could fight went out to fight (and got killed)- pretty bare-bones rag tag crew of eldery, young and non-warrior types left in the kingdom. didn't they have a scene where kung-fu stick fighter kid wanted to go? so fighting would've been suicide, and they were already captured- trying to do something to have his people escape was his last ditch shot at redemption. was the chain his tiger's chain? pretty shiny.

I am not sure a good show would just leave so many open ended questions like this.

sounds like he was deferring to stay on the show, based on conversations had with the producer... who then canned him.

IIRC, other than Rick, he's the only character left who was on the show from the beginning?

Carol and Darryl weren't in the first episode.
I'm thinking they meant first season.  Carol and Daryl have been in many more episodes than Morgan, even though Morgan was in the very first episode.  To me, they are more "main characters" than Morgan.  But not by much. Rick, Carol, Daryl, Carl, Glenn (before this season) then Morgan.  I'd even put Maggie ahead of Morgan.

That's what you think but what would Rick think? :P

I really don't get this whole thing.   I can't stand Coral and his stupid hat, but is the idea here really that he convinces Rick that there's a better way than just going to war and killing people?   Coral's death should send Rick even deeper and darker, not be the catalyst for bringing him back to reason.   Just some really crappy writing.   I really wish they had just killed Rick instead, making everyone else just choose to join the Saviors or make a run for it, and put them back on the road with a small group.

And Eugene is a laughably bad character.

I believe so yes, while I was hoping it will push rick over the edge it probably won't because it was a walker bite that took him out and not Lucille.

Been storing this season up on my DVR, but have yet to watch it. The show has gotten really tedious for me and more than anything, I just wanted to see what happens. From a couple of tidbits I've picked up on threads like this: the tiger got eaten by zombies; someone had an easy shot at Negan to take him out, but didn't, and Coral got bit.

Anything else off consequence happen? TIA. May or may not answer yours.

Absolutely nothing.

Good guys were winning and then they weren't.

Had already forgotten the tiger. So stupid.

Lots of shooting and missing.  Like you're typical under budget movie with poor acting in the action scenes.  Lots of questions.  Lots of bad ideas that didn't work.  Seemed like the same thing each episode and apparently it only covered a few days.

Yeah there are a lot of pretty rough rumors floating around. Basically idea is that Gimple and walking dead lied to Carl that he was there for at least 3 more seasons so that is why he recently bought a house there. When chandler spoke out there is a rumor that this was amc taking a hard line and basically firing chandler.

Who knows but out of all the ideas and thoughts, I don’t think they killed Carl off to move along the storyline for the show.

Yep giving up a bunch of story lines by eliminating the Father-Son, Mother (Michonne)-Carl dynamics. Was it a salary/contract thing that resulted in the write off?

I don't think they knocked Carl off for the "storyline" as gimple claims. I don't know what his deal is other than he seems insane, gimple that is.

I mean anyone that can watch season 8 and think wow that's good TV! That's his product. Now he axes an integral character. I'm assuming he's just going to have Darryl take Carl's place in the comics. If the show lasts that long...

I can't quite grasp the fact, during the big fight scene, Rick runs away from Neegun and his bat .... with his gun in his hand.

Hey Rick, ....how about you wait for 'ol Neegs to lean out that broken window and end this dumbness so we can all go watch something better?

"From the beginning" cant possibly mean just the pilot episode.  Seems silly.
This whole thing is silly.

But that was what I was wondering- from the pilot. Didn't care about who eventually joins up at some point in the first season.

At least we've got something to discuss in here.

Kirkman should just disregard the comic book and hand everything over to Vince Gilligan ....and let him write the next 4 seasons.

"Better Call Coral" (oh, probably too late for that one)

how about "Breaking Dead"

Maybe Carl won't die.  Going forward they will just green screen a large hole through him where they remove the infected area and cauterize the wound.  Plausible in the Walking Dead universe.

LOL....maybe...just maybe he will be the golden boy who is actually immune to the virus....does not turn, they go on a journey to California on the hope that they can use his blood to find a vaccine.

Talk about jumping the shark on the comics!

They have been foreshadowing this for years, with all of the Carl running off alone and getting himself in trouble.  Now he went and got himself bit.  Dopey kid always had an invincibility complex and was a three stooge in the field at best.

I wonder what you guys would have done watching WWII while it happened?  I mean that took 4 years for us to sort out, they just dragged it out with stupid moves and decisions from the beginning.  I want to watch a show every week, so I expect that some episodes will be used to set up the next ones and there will be some multi show arcs going on.  When I drive to New Hampshire from New Jersey, I know that I have to get through Connecticut and while it is going to suck, there is no way around it.

You guys hit all my thoughts. So many stupid decisions. Just sucks to have that Red Machete show us a character from one of the best episodes ever. Why don't they just rub salt in our wounds to remind us of how good this show could be?

Nah, instead they gloss over such a huge part of this entire season, the assumption that the Saviors were actually trapped. Let's just ignore that and get the Saviors out of harm without them suffering a casualty even though there were supposed to be snipers ready to kill anyone coming out.

WWII was fought by New Hampshire and New Jersey throughout the state of Connecticut during the course of 4 years of bad Three Stooges episodes. Meanwhile, in the beginning Carl ran off by himself and built an arc.

Maybe?
preposterous.

no way coral can build an arc with only one eye.

none of this should fall on Kirkman (well maybe some). looking at the comic, it is almost nothing like what the TV show has become. the plot lines and everything are written so much better it is like night and day

Three episodes in on the DVR, lots of eye rolling so far.

So you need to kill one man and in Ep 1 he's(dumb enough to be) standing in front of you(a big group of people with guns) and you chat with him instead of just unloading?

That Hoard moved pretty quick??

Gabriel trying to rescue Gregory???

Aim with arrows has greatly improved while aim with guns has gone to ####????

The sudden development of conscience and not killing the saviors, instead taking them prisoner and putting everyone at risk????? Oh and lets fight Morgan over this stupidity.

I could go on. . . .

We are really jumping the shark with a lot of the uber dumb decisions made so far in this season. I'm a TWD lifer and will likely continue to watch no matter what but this season is rough. Can't wait to go back in this thread and see the commentary
