look- that scene, I was all-in. tense as a mofo- how in hell are they going to get out of that? and then the avoid a gun to the back of the head throat bit- I found it terrible- laughably cringey and ruined that scene. the show is chock full o' moments like that. at this point, each episode is full of moments like that. but... and I tried to make it clear-

the romance stuff. meh. I don't mind if it's incorporated as an organic part of the show and idea of the show. I can see that they're setting this up as safer, civilization reboot, so I guess it makes sense for some of that stuff to come back into play to show that they're creating normalcy in that society. it's just not well done or terribly interesting. 

I may have to go back and watch that scene but I won’t let you ruin it for me. The show itself hasn’t been well done in a few seasons. Van flip was corny but at least the rest of the show was watchable. You can forgive even the bottle rocket because Terminus wasn’t the Smithsonian.

It just makes you wonder how the people making the show don’t see it. Make it dark again. Make it a struggle and make people you like (not sure if there are any now) die.

The best thing for the show right now is a herd that they can’t handle. Disperse and kill off a bunch. Have them wander into REI and curse Rick for being stupid as they check out the 2015 canoe collection.

Still watching but no longer must watch asap for me either. I like Rick and Michonne but they have no chemistry as a couple and their scenes are painful to watch.

Seems like Rick has setup basically what Negan had going only with Maggie in the Negan role. Glad Gregory is finally dead but would've preferred watching him get his face chewed off or some other kind of suffering. Looks like we are heading to a Maggie/Darryl vs Rick finale where we already know how it turns out.

maybe that is what TWD needs.. Getting rid of Carl, Rick and probably Maggie sends the show off the tracks compared to the Comics so the writers won't feel the need to stay "true" to the story arc.

Then again, that didn't help FTWD from becoming junk TV...

Yea, could have done without the montage of "Family day" ?

But overall, thought it was an interesting episode... Thought for sure when Daryl pulled out the arrow and said "I know who did this", it was going to turn out to be Dwight.
Oceanside getting revenge and having Maggie and Daryl turn their back and walking away was a nice touch. "Were off to see the wizard Negan"

Only two episodes left of Rick grimes was shocking... thought for sure they'd drag that out to the end of Season 9, or at least the Mid-season Finale. Does he die, and if so at who's hands? Do he and Michonne just decide it is time to leave and head off? Does he find out about Trash lady giving up Preacher man and decides to search for him?  .. Lots of different ways they could go here.

Might not be. Remember that the Terminus folks rebelled against someone before they turned evil. They may have taken the tactics from someone else and these are those people.

I'm sure it has been covered, but has there been any reasoning behind the "Rick's final episodes" broadcasting? Seems pretty dumb since one of the main appeals to this ilk of show is uncertainty, and shock over demise to key characters. I'm just not feeling the tension I might otherwise feel with the Rick stance vs others stance knowing he's a goner anyway.

Based on the tone of your reply, I can only assume I'm out of touch with the masses thinking this is pretty dumb removing shock of demising the key character. Your second line is my point, of course there is no uncertainty. I would hope everyone knows.

No "tone" meant, just more of an it's obviously for the ratings. The chart below is from last season, but I know it's not getting better. Season 8 (last season) ratings were all the way back down to season 2's level, which was back when it was still getting a wider audience. Remember that season 1 was a short introduction. Season 4, 5 and 6 were the peak and season 8 was down almost 50% since the peak in season 5. At this point, everything they do is for ratings and they want to milk Rick's death to try and pull back all the people that "left" and there's a ton who have. You have to assume that if there were 17 million viewers in season 5's premiere, most of those 17 million (probably 14-15 million based on season 5's ratings) had already watched season 1-4 or went back and watched it. If we are at 7-8 million now, there's a #### ton of people that they'd love to get back. Even though 3 million less people watched season 7 than season 5, season 7's premiere was the 2nd highest rated episode ever, so there's definitely a pent up audience of people who might watch an episode because Rick's going to die.

I gotta admit I stopped watching this show mid season last year and had no clue it was announced this would be Rick's last season. Count me in as someone mildly curious to see how he goes out.

Yeah, no way to send a shockwave nowadays. Everyone already knew this was his last season and if he’s not there to shoot the second half of the season then we’d already know around when it’ll happen.

See shady’s post above. That is 100% what they are going for because it is all about ratings and trying to stem the drop. If they can interest enough of the people that fell off the show and have a great episode (who knows if they can do that), maybe they can hook some of those folks back into the show. I liked last night’s show, maybe they can keep that dark and mysterious (cabbage patch kids lady and helicopter) angle going.

The episode got off to a pretty terrible start.  Very slow and boring.  I found myself fast forwarding through the mushy crap and family part.  The second half of the episode was pretty good and I enjoyed it.  I didn't know for sure what was going to happen and saw some cool moments.  It gave me that feeling of wanting more that I haven't had in a while.

Maybe he sees Trash Lady and Preacher man take off in the Helicopter and, tired of the infighting, talks Michonne into leaving to find the other civilization..

Then again, who knows, maybe Daryl and Maggie kill off Rick so that they can kill Negan.. They've lost the "Everyone has a purpose" feeling Rick has been trying to sell ...

Wouldn't surprise me if they try to kill Negan but somehow he gets free and then ends up killing Rick.  Either Maggie, Daryl or Michonne kill Negan and the event brings the entire community closer together until the next ordeal.

That could be one heck of a show.. Maggie and Daryl release Negan to kill him.. Rick tries to stop them and gets killed by Negan.

Michonne, Daryl and Maggie recapture Negan... Then, in front of all Communities, Negan gets the "BraveHeart" treatment.

I expect Rick to kill negan and then exile himself. This isn't the way it goes in the comics.

Daryl was ready to turn and leave the second the chick said she killed her husband, funny they had to sell Maggie on it.  Hoping when rick is gone we get more badass Daryl.

The question that brings is.. Are A's people they kill/incarcerate so they can't rise up against them and B's they use as slaves to build their community.

Actually, I think it may have been referenced but not a lot. She saw the helicopter before and I seem to remember that radio before as well. Might have been shown but without anything actually happening. That said, it’s an actual interesting twist.

Also, they really foreshadowed who killed the Saviors when that lady was knocked out. Daryl picked up her spear gun and when he did I knew she did it and was fake knocked out. The show’s been so bad the past couple years that I had forgotten about the Saviors killing all the Oceanside men.
