Most unrealistic thing about that episode was them not banging. Seriously, WTF? They led up to it all episode and he didnt even make an attempt.
I will say this with 99.9% confidence, that any other straight dude in a zombie apocalypse that had a hot 18 year old wanting to get drunk and play games would bang Beth numerous times.
That fish analysis may have been correct.

Maybe he's waiting for Beth to butch it up Carol-style so he could stomach it.

Hard to keep up when you are bored to sleep.

When Daryl and Beth were in the trunk of that car, why wouldn't the walkers be trying to get into the trunk in the morning? There was no sign of them when they casually got out. I couldn't tell if the walkers were attempting to get in the trunk or not.

I don't normally read WD reviews, but have the critics turned on WD yet?

When Dexter was in a free fall, reading hateful reviews became a lot of fun.

I suspect WD is still a year or so away before critics will really feel comfortable beating it like a pinata (don't want to prematurely call TOD). Anyway, if someone wouldn't mind throwing up a bat signal when this phase becomes official, I'd appreciate it.

And dear Lord, please, please, please let me know if Hardwick ever goes there. I assume that's impossible, but if that happened, that would be all kinds of awesome.
Hardwick hinted at it a little the week. The basic idea was that this episode was designed to go against the Oscars so it was a little filler.

Also in the comics there are down times too. It seemed non stop at the prison then noticeably slowed down for a but where we are at now. It kind if pointed to the idea that their lives are not action packed and there are times when things drag along ( if I remember correctly)

Are you saying that they intentionally make parts of the story boring in order to make their depiction of the zombie apocalypse more realistic?

The walkers didn't know they were in there. I imagined there was quite a large herd passing through and the never stopped to look in the trunk because they're stupid zombies.

I have no issue with that.

I have no big logic issues with this episode aside from burning the house down at night. Everything else was actually spot on, the burried fire, noise alert booby traps, etc.

It was kinda tedious though.

I've been as critical of this show as anyone, but aside from a few moments (Beth being the new Carl and wondering off into near death because she's mad, and the corny ending) I thought this was a really good episode. I'm surprised at the reaction, I thought people would have been all about this one. The conversations between Beth and Daryl were really good.

"You're going to be the last one standing".
Agreed. Getting some Daryl background was a good thing. And angry drunk Daryl. He also apparently hates rich white dudes.
Really? You needed some Daryl background? Were you under the impression that he was a physics teacher and needed some clarification? Thanks for devoting an entire episode to remove any doubt that he was a dumb ### hillbilly all this time I thought he was a banker.

The symbolic ######ed burning of his past which has been hit on at least three other times I can think of, him and Rick/Merle/TDog has finally let the bewildered audience in on the fact that he is now a good guy who has changed, it was a mystery to all.
Ok.Like all of the characters on the show, I assumed Daryl had some type of job. Nothing glamorous but something to pay the bills. Apparently you knew he was a complete bum. Cool.
From the earlier seasons, I figured he was a white trash bum.
I would have been more surprised to find out Daryl had a 9-5.
Same here. I picture Daryl and his brother in a cabin a la Waterboy - pass me some of that there frog cake.

I didn't come in here yesterday because I didn't watch the show until last night. After that episode I was sure no one, snogger, copeman, ANYBODY would be defending that episode. That was freaking horrible, but, as always the FFA rises to another level of stupidity. Not even going to touch on the "I want a first drink vs. Daryl is a mean drunk" story line because like the story line there really is zero point. Here is my list of annoyances:

1- Let's build a tent and eat a snake instead of finding shelter that apparently isn't too far away.

2- Let's use a mirror and piece of glass to light a fire.

3- Peach schnapps, ***h really? Rich people don't drink peach schnapps.

4- Moonshine is much better for your first drink than PS, especially where you're a girl.

5- First drink is moonshine and it goes down smooth!!!! No cough, no gag, nothing.

6- Hey when we board up this house let's put the boards on the windows crooked so it doesn't really do anything.

7- First drunk able to function after drinking that much moonshine.

8- Leaving the rich house for the rat hole in the first place.

9- Rich house and rat hole in the same neighborhood.

10- Daryl gathering up money.

11- Light the house on fire and run away, Hey, where did you get those matches?

The reason I keep watching is because I’m a horror freak, I love B movies. I’ve seen them all. Basically if a zombie shows up I’ll watch it. I’ll keep watching, but, after that episode I’ll have to watch it by myself. And as an expert I’d rank that episode dead last of anything I’ve ever watched in the genre.

Holy hell this season is terrible.

It's massive ratings success is killing it. AMC's going down the crapper, and I'm sure they'd like to order 20 more seasons of this garbage if they could.

We've seen this time and time again. You have a good show that becomes a huge hit. Making a plan to ever end it is a dumb financial decision, so it becomes an aimless mess with no direction.
example: Lost

How exactly have I defended the episode? I merely said I enjoyed it. Different strokes for different folks. At least I don't say anyone who didn't like it is stupid.

Much on your list can easily be explained. I suggest if you have this many issues with the show that you should move on. Don't put yourself through this "stupidity" any longer.

"Fine, Beth, you want a drink? Instead of staying at this country club I've cleared of zombies let's head out to a completely unsecure rat trap with moonshine. By the way, it will remind me of my horrible childhood, so I'll probably get really emo on you.

Regardless of whether an episode is good or bad, I think it's interesting the number of things people criticize that are clearly answered in the episode.

Beth would of been lit with the amounts of moonshine she was drinking, especially as a first time drinker. She would of been throwing herself at Daryl even more than what she was already hinting. I mean even people in a zombie apocalypse have needs too.

Regardless of whether an episode is good or bad, I think it's interesting the number of things people criticize that are clearly answered in the episode.
I just don't understand how it's possible that someone can watch the show and question certain things that they clearly show the answer to, then call others "stupid". I guess they are too busy looking for flaws that they don't actually comprehend what they are watching. Kind of like my girlfriend's 6 year old.

I get the feeling there are some folks who are determined to hate the show no matter what.

How do these people not know that these places have been around the jail all this time. People would go out on these supply trips and they wouldn't have noticed or thought of the subdivision Rick/Michonne/Carl were, or the Country Club Daryl/Beth were? Or even if anyone from the jail hasn't been to either of these places, you would certainly think that another wanderer would of came across these places and collected those matches in the country club or the food from the houses that Carl/Michonne went through.

Also it seems like each group besides Glen is less than 5 miles away from the jail, just in different directions? Seems like it is even more far fetched that the jail members haven't came across these places before.

I guess im just nit-picking at this and realize it is just a tv show, but these little things drive me nuts.

Subtle I guess. It went right over my head. If you were living in this country club why would you A:hang people, B: Hang those people in your living area. C:After hanging them leave them and abandon your shelter.

It never occurred to me that if you were a disgruntled Carl Spackler that you would be so mad at your former customers that you would take the time to make three nooses remove ceiling tiles gather enough popular support to round up restrain and murder three people and then hang them in your bedroom and then take off. You know, instead of just bashing their heads in with a weed wacker.

Matches? I thought those were golf tees!

Just kidding, at least no one was mowing the fairway.

He emptied out a bowl of matches from the pro shop at the golf club (the "rich house").
there's so much wrong with that post. it's not even worth getting into it.
Good you see my point. Instead of building a tent and eating a snake you could have went to the country club in the first place.
You think they knew that country club was there prior to?
If they were thousands of miles from civilization there wouldn't any walkers. So yes it makes sense that there might be shelter and supplies near by. After hiding in the trunk overrun by walkers they should have gone in the opposite direction of which they came instead of running out into the woods. You would last long in one of these apocalypse.

Because they knew where the 'rich house' was?
Daryl knew where the rat trap was because he said he found it previously with Michonne. The locations appear close enough together that it's reasonable that he would've known where a giant country club was when he was gung ho about scouting the area.

They walked out of the woods and Beth was leading. I thought it was very obvious. She then said something to the effect that "this place MUST have alcohol".

I guess it's easy to understand why you like this show, you re-write it in your head.

I actually liked this episode. The tension that even I was feeling at home as the herd of zombies passed by the car was crazy! I was imagining it was like being trapped in a house hearing a tornado go over; it would have been terrifying to those in the trunk.

Someone mentioned earlier why didn't the zombies try to get in the trunk… There were a few bangs and close grunts that gave me the impression that several tried to open the trunk but couldn't, and simply moved on. And from the muddy footprints the herd left behind as the camera panned out left me to believe there were HUNDREDS of zombies in this herd; not just a few. Much more perceived tension that a few clumsy actors groping through a hole in a wall… This was terrifying. I liked it!

The sexual tension between Beth and Daryl was quite intriguing. Innuendo everywhere. Sure I cried "BS!" just like the rest of you at some scenes. No way any red-blooded American male in a post-apocolyptic state resists the urge to repopulate the planet with an attractive 18 year old slugging back the 'shine and coming on heavy to you. Playing "I never"? Hah! When they were yelling at each other, I expected them to grab each other by the faces and aggressively go off on each other. But alas, no Beth sex scene.

It's been said before, you find what you like, you find what you want to complain about; to each their own. But I thought it was a good episode that told us a little more about Beth, Daryl, and the rest of civilization when the outbreak occurred. I especially liked the country club scenes. I don't read the comics but I was imagining a scenario where the food/water/supplies were starting to run out, and the rich folks thought the "help" weren't worthy of the supplies, and a class revolt of sorts took place. They probably didn't realize that those they hung would turn.
